I'd have to say (in no particular order)...

-Canada
-America
-The U.K.

What about you guys?

NOTE: Of course it doesn't matter where the music comes from. I never check to see country of origin when I find new music, I was just looking throuhgh my library and foud that a lot of my favorite bands came from these three regions. Please don't take this thread too seriously.

Depends on the genre.......though admitably most of the music I listen to is from Europe....

I don't listen to music just because its from a country. I listen because I like it.

Uhm yes, it really doesnt matter where the music comes from. I could tell you dozents of good bands/musicians from every country of the world (of course, research has to be done). I listen to music when I like it, whether its from America, Italy, Sweden or Israel, doesnt matter.

I have a hard time separating all my genres, much less their countries of origin. All of those, by the way, came from different countries around the world.

Guys really?

Of course it doesn't matter where the music comes from.

I was just starting a discussion.

I looked through my library of my favorite artists and a lot of them came from these three regions.

Obviously I don't care where the artist comes from.

The best music comes from Earth. I think that's pretty accurate.

It's an ongoing battle between the UK and America...see America steals other country's music and makes it their own, then other Americans get pissed about it and try to revamp it as their own, then Britain takes it and makes it good, then America jumps on the band wagon and tries to make it bigger and better. I believe this has happened with blues, jazz to rock, then punk, then trance, the only thing the UK hasn't jumped on is the emo/screamo/pop punk stuff...at least I haven't heard any kinda crappy artist like that from UK.

Most other popular music in other countries is inspired by western pop/rock...however, this does not at all apply to traditional music considering the east (any country/area) has their own defining style. As far as that goes, I'm goin with eastern europe/balkans has the best traditional music.

A Hermit's Cave
From the pens (or equivalent) of the best composers...

Seriously though, Germany... though in my case it's more of a 'came from' rather than 'comes from'.

I would say it differs from genre to genre. However, I would argue that the best music in general comes from Canada. There are many great European bands as well, but Canada is king. You have the tragically hip, rush, dream theater (from my home town too), and many many more.

Although this is one of those questions that is purely subjective.

Music is an ever-evolving and fluid art form.

There is no stealing. Only borrowing and enhancing.

Also emo/screamo/pop punk came from the UK and was popularized in America.

UK borrows the style of American artists all the time. For example, The Heavy.

It comes from taking someone else's ideas and doing something different with it.

EDIT: Well I suppose that's more where the truly innovative music comes from.

I believe that great music comes from everywhere, the nexus of great music just changes from year to year. Right now, I feel that a lot of great music is coming from Europe, and has been for about 12 years or so.

My current music-binge is Rodrigo y Gabriela. Thrash Metal artists playing Flamenco; fucking awesome.

There are also a lot of other innovative music groups out there that have developed in the past decade or so. TURISAS is a Finnish Metal band that uses traditional folk music instruments in their music.

Eluveitie is a Swiss group that does the same, but with more folk instruments, and goes the extra mile by learning Ancient Etruscan and writing about half of their songs in it.

On the electronic side, I've been really impressed with Magnetic Man, out of England.

That is not to say that the US has no good music; but lately, again for the past decade or so, a lot of the pop music coming out has been refined so much by the past 60 years of manufacturing pop hits, that it feels like the aural version of pixie sticks.

I'm sure there will be another revolution in musical production that will catch on, in which all the good stuff will be coming from somewhere else.

The nation of metal knows no boundaries.

It technically comes from the musicians. I also have a theory that depressed musicians make some of the best music.

But as a serious answer, its probably the U.K. or the US. With the U.K., you have the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, and across the way in the U.S., you have the sunset strip in California during the 80's.

I suppose it would have to be America and England. The White Stripes and Led Zeppelin.
