I was going to give you my standard answer/catchphrase, "One word: Batman", but to be honest I think it's a cultural thing.
This sounds like making excuses to me even as I say it, but a lot of it comes from the fact that I deal with fairly dehabilitating illness and have since I was 11. That kind of thing does a good job of eroding all but the most persistent happy folks, and I definetely wasn't on that list even as a kid.
