So much this. It's not like USB mouse isn't supported for consoles already (at least, it's supported for the PS3). You kind of need a keyboard too if you intend to do any kind of micro.Rossiar said:Hell no, console strategy games is a no-no. I played Halo wars and to my immense satisfaction i hated every minute of it. Consoles will NEVER be able to play RTS games like PC's do unless you stick a USB mouse in (why hasn't this been thought of?)
If you didn't like Total War, stay away from this. It's basically Star Wars: Total War.XThecommander said:Have you tried Star Wars Empire at War?
Controversial statementSebenko said:I'm not sure it's just RTSes. I haven't seen any games recently that have me interested, on PC or console.
I think it's less a case of "RTSes are dying" and more a case of "Current games are shit".
Last game that got more than an "Oh. New." out of me was Metro 2033.
They did, but then you just complained about it. Dawn of War 2, Sins of a Solar Empire, World in Conflict, Company of Heroes, Men of War, all fantastic example of RTS which tried and succeeded at trying out new elements in the RTS genre.Rossiar said:Yes i will admit that most RTS games are decided by who has the biggest army or the most resources. I don't like that in the genre and THIS is where I wanna see the innovation come from. If Total War is the best offering for this...
What i'm saying is that why hasn't the industry really made any breakthroughs? Starcraft 2 by most people's admittance will be "Just another rush game"
It's not there!?Withall said:Ensemble Studios (AKA Age of Empires HQ) closed down a while ago now. No more AoE. Back to topic though....
There's a game coming out called "R.U.S.E", grab the demo of Steam, and take a look?
No argument there. Company of Heroes was FANTASTIC. Which was why Dow2 was such a disappointment. Relic had me sold that they were amazing and then they let me down. I will have a look at these others because they sound interesting. Thanks for the helpThe Madman said:They did, but then you just complained about it. Again, I'll list a few, even including their Metacritic scores:
Men of War, 80%
Company of Heroes, 93%
Sins of a Solar Empire, 87%
World in Conflict, 89%
Dawn of War 2, 85%
Look em up, they're all great. You're missing out! Company of Heroes is probably the most important and outright best RTS released in years, it really is.
it was only a free weekend beta thingRossiar said:It's not there!?Withall said:Ensemble Studios (AKA Age of Empires HQ) closed down a while ago now. No more AoE. Back to topic though....

Have they taken it off or something? :s
If you think Pikmin (i.e. Lemmings clone) is a strategy game then this board isn't for you.DJmagma said:don't really care. the only RTS game i ever found interesting was pikmin, the rest were micro-managing rush a thons where the battle was decided in the first 10 minutes and it takes 2 hours to lose.
Em what about Dawn of War 2?Rossiar said:I have a cupboard in my study; it is full of years of amazing RTS games that my dad has accumulated over the years.
Stuff like Age of Empires, Age of Mythology, Empire Earth, Supreme Commander, Command & Conquer 3, Dawn of War, Rise and Fall, Battle for Middle Earth 1/2/ROTWK
Where is the new stuff?
Supreme commander went down the pan with its sequel which to me looks shoddy. Age of empires and Empire Earth both tried to fix what wasn't broken and made some horrific sequels. Tha market for RTS is essentially dead with Microsoft prostituting the PC games market to hawk Xbox 360 games to a different user base.
Does anyone else find this distressing/fine/doesn't care?
