Chances are it has been in development as soon as Oblivion was done, at least the preliminary stuff. Bethesda hasn't announced Oblivion very early in its development either, so I guess we'll have to wait and see. Perhaps E3. Make that hopefully E3...

Take as long as they fucking need tbh, Oblivion was great but if the next tes includes any of the following, horse amrour, DRM, mandatory software/duiguised drm, bad combat, bad animation, no toolset. Then its a flop in my eyes mods made oblivion/morrowind into something spectacular but the building blocks for both games were meh at best if the next TES does not blow me away with the visuals/combat system I may not bother and how many games does it take to get animations down bethesda?

Oh yeah, this is SUCH a critical issue at this time! I mean, god forbid we allow a company to get away with not milking a series for a fifth installment!

Sarcasm aside, why are you so desperate for yet ANOTHER sequel? I'd rather see an all-new IP than Oblivion warmed-over again. If you want more Elder Scrolls, just look for some more mods or something.
Sorry, but are you freaking serious?

Milking a franchise?

These aren't sequels, there a new game set in a new location with new characters, and a new freaking engine each game. Its not simply polishing the old game with new graphics, taking on a story and calling it a day (Like most sequels)

For me, there are still things I want to see in the next Elder Scrolls game. An engine that crashes less for a start. Their potential for innovation in their games is also high.
Plus I know that an Elder Scrolls game made by Bethesda will be good.

Although I think Bethesda's policy means they still consider Oblivion current. They're probably not in as much of a hurry for the next game as we are (for more on how they consider their games and releases, see <a href=http://www.gamasutra.com/view/feature/3986/growing_your_long_tail_hines_on_.php?page=1>here - warning: the interview is a year old).

Havent you heard? Theyre making a cross between the elder scrolls and fallout. Yup FallOut New Vegas includes a dimension ripping machine were your protagonist from Oblivion joins your Vault 101 character and they team up to stop the Enclave Daedra.
That would possible be the most epic/broken thing ever created by man and i would buy that.

They announced that they have no plans for another game in the series, I think it was about 8 months or so ago.

Why would you even want it? Oblivion was horrible enough, 5 would just be pushing it.

Time between games makes you appreciate them all the more, but yeah I wouldn't mind seeing another one after the next Fallout.

will probably never be another one. with the massive success of fallout, why would they? there's another fallout coming around the corner, and there's near endless money involved in those umpteen DLC packages that people seem to buy without second thinking the purchase.

i heard some mention about bethesda and the peeps who did fallout 2 being in the works of a fallout mmo as well, so there's even more time taken away from TES.

OXM said that Bethesda will be making "Oblivion 5" (OXM for you) at some point.

I guess the nuclear blasts made it impossible for it to rain :p

But you bring up a great point, every area in Oblivion seemed varied and interesting and it all blended seamlessly together and there were no instances of me going "where the hell did all this snow come from?"

Lots of former Black Isle staffers, game creds include NWN2 and KotOR2... yeah, sound terrible to me.
Not to mention Fallout 1 and 2...

Making an engine that doesn't crash at the drop of the hat is my hope.

I can think of about 30 PC games that let me heavily mod them.

Of those I can think of only 2 titles that crash if I so much as change the colors of an NPC's eyelashes.

Both are made by Bethesda.

I can barely FORCE other games to crash even with heavy modding.

Then again wasn't F3 crashing on the DLC on consoles? -.-

You've PLAYED NWN2 right? Next to SPORE I can think of no other Title that has ever disappointed me so fully.

I detest Obsidian, but different strokes for different folks. I just think this'll be the same thing. At least this time I don't foolishly buy it assuming that Bethesda made it (as was the case with me assuming Bioware had made NWN2...I didn't research and it was entirely my fault).

Well more specifically they did the original Fallout games, not to mention have Brian Fargo with them who invented the beginnings of the entire Franchise with "Wasteland". When thinking of Black Isle I tend to think more towards their work with "Baldur's Gate", and "Planescape: Torment".

As far as the original question on TES 5 goes, I think we'll hear about it eventually. My major concern is that it will continue to reduce the RPG elements instead and turn into some kind of first person action game. Truthfully while I think Morrowwind was the strongest game overall, I felt it was missing a lot of things that Daggerfall had, and Oblivion further reduced it more. To some extent I almost dread seeing what they might come out with.

On some levels I hope that Obsidian gets full control of the Fallout liscence simply because I think Bethesda is incapable of really writing it properly, not with their current attitude, and Bethesda works on launching it's own post apocolyptic or science fiction RPG franchise from the ground up.

For example while the satirical retro-future thing is cool, I think a lot could be done with a more serious take on the whole idea. Something akin to a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game fleshed out into more of a skill based RPG, in an apocolyptic world as opposed to being limited to the aftermath of one specific disaster. Basically I think Bethesda would do better to create their own world, than to try and emulate someone else's writing.

Obsidian probably won't change formula much for the new Fallout. That means I probably won't give it a try (good game, just not for me), but fans of the Fallout 3 will be pleased. When they did Knights of the Old Republic II, very little was changed from the first game (developed by BioWare).
