Where is HL 2 Episode 3?

How about we stop complaining about Episode 3 and move on with our lives. It's getting old.

Because bitching gets us nowhere. Hell, people bitched for the longest time about how long it was taking "Duke Nukem Forever" to come out and it just kept lingering. Finally, after years of bitching and complaining, they announced that production had been cancelled and we weren't going to get the game.

Seriously, I've actually stopped caring if they release another Half Life game. At this point, living up to the long awaited hype will be nearly impossible. If it DOES get announced in the next two years (unlikely) I'll just say "I'll read reviews first".

I feel like it will have the same fate as Duke Nukem. The game looks like garbage I could have bought on the PS2. I usually don't care about graphics, but if a game takes 10 damn years to come out, it better be the best thing since the internet.

A friend of mine in the biz told me that Episode 3 is taking so long because of software trouble with the Source Engine. Apparently, Valve has gotten REALLY carried away with it, especially with water effects.

Wait till Portal 2 comes out; my theory is that it should pave the way for the whole Aperture Science Borealis thing in ep 3.

Since Portal 2 is set a hundred years into the future after EP3 ends, I bet that the events of Episode 3 will be referenced, even though we never played it, and never heard from again.

The biggest dick slam in Valve history since they let Gearbox lock up Adrien Shepard.

Portal 2 takes place immediately after the events of Portal 1, hence the new cutscene inserted into the end of Portal 1 when it was re-released. So, Portal 1 is set 100 years after HL2, and HL2 is 20 years after HL1, then Portal is set 120 years after HL1? OK. So why is Aperture Science competing with Black Mesa, which was effectively destroyed in HL1? Sure, the computers are displaying old information, but have they been showing the same slideshow for 120 years?

Maybe.

But maybe you read some fanfic or rumor site and are now spewing information like it's truth when it might not be. Or maybe it is... I don't know.

On the one hand, it hasn't been THAT long, all things considered. Valve does a lot of stuff, so it's natural that EP3 fell by the wayside.

On the other hand the purpose of episodic content is to release shorter, cheaper games more often. So Valve really missed the point of that.

So, the fact that the entire facility is overrun with plant life implies it happens the very next day? No, Valve said themselves it is much further into the future. When the robot drags you back in the updated ending, you are put back into the cryosleep you awoke from in the first game.

I'm not saying it's NOT 120 years in the future, but the facility doesn't look like 120 years of decay later. The projectors are still running, the plant life hasn't completely overgrown the gate area. And where is it said that you are put back into cryosleep? Valve has said that Portal 1 takes place in the future, and that much is clear, but there is a difference between 20 years and 120 years, and I don't think there's definitive evidence for either, but anecdotal evidence points to the former, not the latter.

So don't discount Portal 2 and HL2E3 taking place concurrently or nearly sequentially just because you read they wouldn't be on an internet forum.
