It would be understandable to put the game in the "present day" (although we are not told at what time Desmond is actually living)

I always thought it was 2012. Wikipedia backs that up with a more specific "September 2012." Therefore its been about a week since he was kidnapped and there's about a month and a half before

Also, that leaves some ideas. There could be another past event where they use the bleeding effect to teach Desmond to use and avoid guns, like... *sigh* during World War II (I really don't want to see that.) I'd like to see him get some more action in, though. I really missed being able to talk to people outside the Animus. As far as I know there were only two brief opportunities for that to happen. He doesn't need to learn to use guns if he's stealthy, although his Hidden Blade should still have a pistol in it.

it has to be with desmond, they cant justify returning to the past as theyve shown desmond can fight e.t.c.
i anticipate it will not be as good as AC2

They can justify it. My guess is they'll go back to the transition time between the Templars and Abstergo, so Desmond can learn more about his enemies. AC1 was like 90/10 Altair, AC2 was 75/25 Ezio. AC3 will probably be closer to 50/50.

If they inclued a place where guns are plentyful they would have to totally redo the combat system.
I hope its during someplace like america during WW1 or, during the flood of Irish immigrants in new york during the civil war...though that might get alittle gangs o newyork-ish.

It should start out in Imperial China, and then for the last third or so finish in Desmond's time. What better rooftops can you think of than Imperial China/Japan?

My vote goes for either Victorian England or the French Revolution, although it is looking likely to be set in the future with Desmond as the main character, which looks pretty dull.

It could be in the future and work out, the people who came to catch desmond at the end of AC2 didn't have guns, so im betting they'll throw some "mega corporations rule the world and outlawed guns" thing in and enemies will have like stun batons instead of swords.

The other possibilty (that i think) is that you go into the animus as a much farther back ancestor to find out more about the vaults of the gods, since they have to rap it up with this one (i'm pretty sure they said its a trilogy?) it will either be you going really far back with the animus to find the vaults and then sending out assassin teams to get the pieces of eden, or ditching the animus and you fighting the templar corporations.

Another thing that would be sweet is since the truth video puzzles showed that many famous leaders from history had pieces of eden, going back and reliving a bunch of different time periods (like each sequence as a different ancestor) to locate the pieces of eden. But it did show that a lot of modern leades like FDR and Hitler had them, so they wouldnt be able to put you in a place without guns, and personally i think guns would ruin the gameplay, so i dont know.

They could do the whole hidden guns thing...that would be pretty cool...
