I know most people aren't huge MMO fans... But, for the ones that are and the few that are zombie nuts... Dude, why can't they pull together a legit, survival-horror MMO?! I've seen two make some leaps and bounds then fall off the face of the internet. It's a bummer. So, My question to anybody, If a company rose from the ashes of the others and made a zombie MMO. What do you think it should have in it too make it fun?

nazi zombies
no knock off of other zombie games
a reason for the zombies
a plot
plenty of weapons
beautiful, yet destructable maps(that respawn every 24 hours)

Not a _real_ mmo, god no. But it's okay for the few painstaking turns that you have. That reminds me, I think my firefighter is still holed in a base somewhere. A client-based mmorpg zombie mmorpg would be awesome, with the right resources and money.

Id say a couple huge cities where you can enter alot if not all of the buildings. Basically scavange for crap, maybe do a few missions like reconnecting power or finding fuel for your generators.
I would not really like the whole survivor city provided scenario. Every person travelling through the cities on their own would be better. Maybe later on you could team up and like secure city blocks by putting up make shift walls that have to be defended by real players otherwise the undead will break through.
Also there would have to be a hunger system so you really do have to go out and try to gather supplies.
I would like a very minimal amount of NPCs. Have everything done by the players.
Also I would not really like a MMORPG set up. Have it more of a MMOFPS. Essentially Left 4 Dead style.
that sounds EPIC !!!!!!!! i like this guys idea

Honestly, I wouldn't buy that... I've actually seen several concepts for Zombie MMORPG's. Basically it ran like this:

Three main classes (Playable):

- Survivor: They band together with others to "reclaim" human society
- Outlaws: Pretty self-explantory; They kill/hunt/torment zombies and humans alike
- Zombies: Duh

Skills were like SWG Pre-CU, You learn the basics and then Get better as you do it. They had crazy things like basic carpentry, which was used to board-up windows and doors, barricades, etc. Whatever the usual zombie enthusiast could muster for a skill they were attempting to make. They also had proposed server-sets that if you started the game as alive, gained skills, but then died, you came back as a zombie, but with the opposite skill sets, if you made barricades alive, you were good at tearing them down as a zombie. But, alas, shit-canned...

Don't get me wrong though! I think the ideal one would utilize aspects of both genres; but inherently it should be RPG based. But.. IMHO, its gonna be a dead-market.. No pun intended.

I've been asking myself the same... But honestly, I prefer they save it for when they can do something half-decent... Unlike all MMORPGS out there...

Too many PCs would ruin the post-apoc. atmosphere
That was addressed in some forums for the games as well; The general consensus was to have different servers with different play styles, and then eliminate the least used. I believe the happy medium was NPC's on both sides, living and dead, therefore creating this element of mystery. A mob of zombies is running at you, most look and act like NPC's, but your not aware of the PC zombie sneaking up from alley to your right. Just like for the zombies... The one about to ambush said "PC" doesn't realize the real PC is on a roof somewhere giving rear support, and this could go on forever... Nice little circle of death.. ha

The problem specifically with Zombie multiplayer games is lag - let me expand - you have alot of NPC's who have to, but the mere idea of zombies, be around and close together. Therefore, although each zombie only produces a small amount of data on its movement, health, etc, the hordes quickly overwhelm most connections on todays internet.

Left 4 Dead suffered (and still does, I think) with this problem, and Valve have had put alot of work into the networking according to the commentary.

being a survival MMO, resources would have to be extremely limited, even for high level players. dangerous NPC's would outnumber players by about say, 100/1 (being zombies, afterall), and when not in danger they'd have to scavange whatever they could find (killing other players for resources could also be in the name of survival)

make it so that players periodically need food and water, maybe even sleep (though i'm not sure how that would work...).

both teamwork and working alone could have its advantages/disadvantages. with a team, people can fight off zombies better, but they need to share resources. fighting alone is the opposite way round - more resources, but fighting zombies is harder.

This guy nailed it.

Oh, before I forget, Before the game fell through, they were trying to piece together a monetary system. I thought, since the survivors were more society based, they could use money. While, the Outlaws used the barter system, and zombies.. well they just don't need anything.. just flesh.. or they could trade teeth from their victims.. ha.

I think that any Zombie MMO would do well to be similar to a fancified version of Urban Dead.

Maybe ditch the 50 actions per day limit though. Also, some advantages to playing human over zombie would be nice.
