i was in a speech therapy class in elementary school. i had no clue what was going on; only a strange announcement over the P.A. that "despite the events of today, the students will not be sent home early." and that was all i knew of it until i arrived at home.

I walked into a mexican restaurant; the whole place was totally silent and everyone was staring at the television. It was like something out of the Twilight Zone. Needless to say I was in there longer than anticipated. I got there in time to see the second plane hit and I watched both towers collapse.

On a separate note, I'm astounded by the number of people who can't remember or don't care.

I think I was putting my dishes in the sink after dinner, when it appeared on the news. I was much younger then, and didn't know exactly what it was at first. The next day at school, we held a one minute silence for them.

That was a weird day... i was in 3rd grade on a field trip to a beach for something. and we took a brake for lunch and (it was a catholic school) when we sat down for lunch she asked us to pray for the people who had gotten bombed in new york. So my first reaction was a bomber dropping bombs not a hijacker, we went home soon after. Even when my grandmother picked me up we still did not know what happened.

Its one of those things that will stay with me for a while.

I'm pretty sure I was still at school. We got let out early and I got home in time to see the second plane hit the tower on T.V. My little 3rd grade mind couldn't really comprehend what was going on.

I was in a Catholic school in second grade I think.

People were running everywhere and parents were trying to pick up their kids. It ended up with me and my sister holding hands wait for my dad to pick us up.

I never really understood the event until a couple years later.
I never got picked up, but this actually describes my location almost exactly :p

Catholic school, third grade. I didn't find out 'til I got home, and even then I was forced to watch Arthur instead of the news (we didn't have cable back then).

Edit: I'm surprised how many people have attended Catholic school.

I was staying home sick from first grade when the planes hit, I was watching TV and it was pretty jarring to go from cartoons to footage of planes hitting buildings.

I was in American History. We were discussing Thomas Payne's Common Sense when an announcement came over the intercom to turn on the televisions. Everyone just stopped. I remember not fully being able to comprehend what was going on. The first plane had just hit the WTC and I was staring at it thinking, was it a bomb? A fire? I never thought about planes until we watched the second one crash into it. The worst part was that my father was traveling that day. Obviously we couldn't get in touch with him right away. I left school early and my mother and I sat in front of the TV all day. We finally heard from my father in the afternoon. His plane had made an emergency landing in Ohio, and he and his work buddies rented a car and drove all the way home to Florida in a day and a half.
