Actually reproducing those shanty towns or favelas [of Brazil] would be a pretty big technical acheivement on any console as for those places are EXTREMELY dense and crowded.
yeah, pretty awesome when you think about it... i was bumbed out in the Hulk when all the fights in Brazil took place in factories. i wanted to see some bright colored shanty homes being obliterated like pinatas.

Has to be London, present day.

Imagine: Old Bill with no guns (until SO19 show up), British swearing and cars, driving on the correct, yes I did see the above map, but still: the correct side of the road...ahh.

Just imagining an up-to-date version of The Getaway with GTA4 physics is great (at least now The Getaway 3 has been canned, but hey-ho I don't have a PS3 anyway).

EDIT: Was a little over-enthusiastic on this post so deleted some text accordingly. Just put it down to night-shift giddyness.

Does anyone think that GTA IV may be the last game? I think it's just starting to become repetitive, unfortunately.
No. On the grounds that it makes Rockstar too much money. Although I do agree that it is getting slightly old-hat.

I dunno where people are actualyl coming up with suggestions for REAL places... GTA will has never, and I really doubt it will ever, be set in a real place (San Andreas doesn't really count IMO)

It could be BASED off a city in the UK (Glasgow or London :D) Or maybe Tokyo.
GTA London yes it's real but it wasn't very well known because it kept with the classic form for GTA instead of third person.

I'm not sure if this is true but I heard a rumor that they're going back to Vice City and it'll be Niko again. These are just rumors though so don't get too excited.

I think it'd be really interesting to have a Mafia the game styled GTA. One set in the thirty's that didn't suck as bad as that one. Not being able to drive a running car because you didn't know how to hotwire it was really stupid.

As ShyWinter said - Russia would be a very good idea. The Criminal Organizations are huge over there, and the police are very easy to bribe. It's the perfect setting for a GTA game.

Australia: I live there, and I can tell you, it's nothing like a GTA game. Gun crime is very rare. Guns themselves are very rare. We do have criminal gangs, but they aren't very big, and it would just feel out-of-place.

No, I'd like to see a GTA game go international - why confine yourself to one city? Go to Liberty City, Moscow, Rio, etc. By going international, it would really open up new mechanics, new story lines, new settings... it's the next logical step. GTA4 pretty much perfect the "City" setting. The only step now is to expand to 3 or 4 different cities. Or maybe even 3 cities, in 3 countries.

The Moon?

I doubt GTA in any country other than America would work (the British one not withstanding) because it would have the same political commentary. I don't think people would find Australian politics funny... actually, ours is a violent system full of grown men abusing each other, so they might do.

The GTA games love to play through the stereotypes. We've done the faceless white guy with no real affiliations, the italian mobster, the black gangster, and now the russian mob (the last three pretty much being the "cool" gang images for their respective release years). If they do something different, my best guess for the next character would be a Yakuza, and so I'd expect Tokyo as the location (playing in the U.S. as a Yakuza just doesn't have enough power to it). It could even be a prequel (Liberty City stories style) to an existing character in the universe.

Unfortunately, we're probably more likely to see a repeat of a prior title (shock horror!). San Andreas could be up, after the relative success of both LC and VC Stories and the new potential of the next gen consoles. Hell, even a GTA: London reimagining into 3D could be possible, what with The Getaway 3 being canned, although that's a little less likely.

Australia is no chance as we don't have enough of a superficially identifiable nature (Canada, America, England, etc - all pretty much the same on the outside lads, just admit it). L.A. Noire is already going to cover the '40s option, and a "Wild West" is just not going to happen - it's Grand Theft AUTO, not Grand Theft Equine (yes I know there were cars in that era, but not widely available, and winding a crank before stealing one is just too much work). Las Vegas was already done in the 3rd island of GTA: SA, Miami and the 80's has been covered, and the future would be too much like a bad joke - it works well for RPGs or FPS, but silver suits, aliens and UFOs don't play in a criminal sandbox game (at least without a Star Wars backing).

If they wanted to surprise me it would be a 3rd world country - South America, or perhaps even Africa. Rising from slums to the elite, working through drug cartels and militia, dealing with a despot. But the political commentary could render that impossible to do well.

I dunno, in England you have cockney accents, old-world meets new-world architecture and little cars driving on the wrong side of the road, that would be enough of a change to make moving GTA there interesting.

Well I don't know what they are going to do next, but maybe they can do what other series do sometimes and totally waste money on a substandard sequel. In example: San Andreas: Hoes of the Strip. Or my personal favorite: Tokyo: Just like New Yor-... Liberty City!
