I guess the emphasis on 'giant rocking tits' spurred the controversy with Dragon's Crown.

That second pic is just weirdly disproportionate on every level. Two hundred pound hair, a hat the size of a diner table, toothpick arms, and a plank for a waist. It's overall too wierd for any real sex appeal to shine through.
This is actually the answer.

There are two things that get the PC crowd riled up.

-Big Tits.
-Erect Penises.

No really. You can show as many tiny titted girls and flacid penises as you want. But if they happen to be big or erect then you're in for a hell of a time

As far as I can tell, the biggest difference between the two is that for Dragon's Crown the character design was used as a selling point and they wanted the controversy (it is free advertising, after all), while Metallia isn't used that way, so people don't know, or even care, about her design.

I can only speak for myself, but characters like the sorceress make me feel uncomfortable because having your tits bounce around like that hurts. There is a reason women wear sports-bras while jogging or doing any sports...
Yeah, it's kind of like how guys flinch sometimes when they see another guy get hit in the nuts.
Like... whenever I see her walk animation I just think `ow`.
Totally agree. That and the weird uncanny valley effect of knowing, at a visceral level, that real breasts do not bounce around like they're made of helium jelly.

The fur along the upper portion of her dress does well to conceal her assets, to be fair. However as I specifically mentioned:

I did mention that she was a bit sexualized, and really that's just a single pose. In the rest of the game I can't really think of another example of something like that, so that's not that bad.

I have never seen an erect penis in any media (Um, porn excluded). Compare that to the plethora of boobs that I've seen, I'm pretty sure that the lack of erect penises in media has more to do with the fact that they don't imagine they'll bring in a whole new market by showing one, so it's not worth putting in.

Also, I was part of the camp that disapproved of Dragon's Crown and I have absolutely no problem with nudity in media. Or sex for that matter. Or erect penises. As far as I've gathered from other people who complained about it, the problem most people were having was the presentation and the trend of female characters being made scantily clad and dolled up for the male audience.

Honestly, the large majority of people complaining about these kind of things really don't get it. Drawing half-naked women with curves is very common practice for a lot of artists.
Go pick up an issue of Heavy Metal, and you'll see what I mean, considering the magazine is currently run by Kevin Eastman who co-created Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

I'm going to guess the reason why nobody is throwing nearly as much as a fit about the latter witch design is because sorceress's entire physic he relies heavily on well animated knockers that consistently get in your face. That's not to mention the 'other' promotional art revolving around the magic user that put heavy emphasis on her sex appeal. Whereas the other one, yeah she's on the skimpy side, but her posture, attitude, and pose don't really draw attention to those aspects.

It's all about how you present the character.

. Artists have been drawing naked ladies (and men) for years and years, but they never got attacked for it? Know why? Because they did it respectfully. That's literally it. If you draw nasty tentacle porn or whatever then YEAH people are going to call it out. If you draw the body with respect though, without the fetishization aspect, everything is just groovy.
This.

This right here is the golden answer.

Look back at art history and look at the nudes that were drawn.
The artists who drew those nudes did so with utmost respect and adoration of the body of the model. Sure some artists exaggerated, but they never exaggerated her parts for his own sexual pleasure. It was often times simply the color, or how they go about showing the proportionate form of the model. It's this reason why nudes of ancient art are allowed in public spaces, but nudes of today's are are not.

Even when it's supposed to be sexual, it still conformed to respect of the nude. The most they would do was have slight suggestive expressions and gestures, but the focus is still on the modeling, painting, composition, and overall form of the model and the picture.

The nudes of the older times were all about appreciating the beauty of the human form.

The nudes of today are all about arousing the audience and making the body as sexual as possible.
Today the only time where people draw the nude out of genuine respect for the form of the drawing are professional painters/illustrators and those studying the figure. That's it.

Everywhere else it's simply a wankfest and the reaction of the audience and how they perceive it shows.

I think its mostly like because with the sorceress, the only out of place part was her oversized bosoms, the rest is either ok, normal, not too outrageous. With that JRPG girl, the design is so silly that the complaining about skimpy outfits or oversized bosoms doesn't come first to mind. With the dinner table for a hat. Hair that looks like it may have more mass than the rest of her body. You really think skimpy outfits are the only crazy thing about it?

So it may be due to suspension of disbelief rather than big bosoms. That or the entire game is even weirder.
