Wathced some footage...

Combat seems to be turn based? Can anyone confirm this?

Because if it is then I shall be giving this one a skip.
Have you ever played Knights of the Old Republic. That's the style I believe it's going on. You can pause to queue up your moves or you can just play in real time. There's a bit a stragety involved in planning out attacks, you can have your mage cast [insert spell] to weaken the enemy, then your tank can rush in, you know stuff like that.

As for me, I had the collectors edition pre ordered as soon as I could, and am picking it up before my classes start tomorrow

I believe it will be a good game, but I honestly just don't care about the game. I really don't.

Odd to be honest.
There is something called, I don't know, personal opinions? Just kidding, of course you know it. :p My point is: You can say that a game can be good and appealing, but perhaps not for your tastes. I, for example, recognize both Oblivion's and Fallout 3's strengths and yet I didn't like them.

As for Dragon Age? I must say (repeat) that I'm not excited. Part of it is the lack of any really interesting features. Another part is that we return back to a boring old fantasy setting. Another part is the whole dark, edgy and gritty aspect that Bioware wants to give the game. (Seriously, what the hell is the deal with this blood dragon on the game's cover?)
Hey you don't need to explain that one to me, if someone doesn't know what a personal opinion is, they won't last long on an internet forum. ;)

I feel it's odd because I feel it's the kind of game that would appeal to me, but it just doesn't. It probably is because I've had enough games set in that type of fantasy setting, to be honest.

I know that the story will be great and very in depth my only worry so far is if the combat is gonna grab me by the balls and not let go. Im just hoping that the combat in the game is really fun and grabs me like other RPGS and fantasy MMOs have.

He he. True, so true. And not just on the internet. Then again, I've been present in quite a few forums made out of hellfires, meteor storms and hammers.

Well I guess that maybe you are in a similar position to me. I mean, I have been playing and liking Bioware games ever since Baldur's Gate was released and in every single of their games there was something interesting to look forward to. But it just doesn't seem to be the case with Dragon Age.

It's not quiet at all, but truthfully I've noticed things slow down right on the edge of release nowadays. Probably because people find it silly to talk about theories and such to a game that is 2" from rlease, and which certain people (pirates, friends and families of gamestop employees, guys who got lucky and picked up a copy when a store jumped release date, etc...) are already playing.

Plus with a lot of games once the game is out, everyone is playing, and if a game stands well, there isn't much to talk about in some cases.

Hmm i think bioware has gone crazy. If you think that they got flamed from the 'sex scene' from mass effect. It is gona be a media witch hunt when this game comes out i wont be supprised if it gets banned in alot of countrys so if you want it buy it quick.

No one hyped Portal either.
I did, because I could see that Portal was the new shit. I was all over the Internet saying things like, "this is the new shit." Except I wasn't because it was bundled with the Orange box and almost everyone was going to buy that anyway.

Can you at least tell us if it has any of that crappy metal from the trailers?

I just want to brace myself.

Dragon Age should attract me, but there just doesn't seem to be any killer feature if you get what I mean.

Having said that, it's had fantastic reviews so I can see it being a purchase. The problem with RPGs (new ones) is that its hard to demonstrate the main feature of them (character interaction, personalisation and the effect of your choices at the start 30 hours in).

I am excited, although watching the really really stiff facial acting from the characters in the trailers bothered me more deeply than seems logical. I knew that they had time to improve it, and even if they didn't it was still only a small part of the experiece, but...well, we'll just have to see how distracting it is.
Unfortunately, according to the IGN UK review of the game:

Well, the loading screens can be a bit long, and most of the conversation animations are reused by a lot of the NPCs. Animation during conversations on the whole is stilted, which would lessen the impact of the voice acting if the quality of it wasn't so fantastic to begin with.

So it looks like it remains a noticeable problem. Review here [http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/104/1040976p1.html] for anyone interested.

And I have noticed that the hype for the game doesn't seem to have reached the feverish levels of mass anticipation as it may have. Perhaps Bioware's marketing tactics so far has dampened some of their long time fan's enthusiasm and they're waiting for the reviews.

I love fantasy RPG's, personally I am excited, though I get what people are saying about it not seeming to have any distinguishing characteristics. Hopefully it just executed an old formula much better than other attempts, that's good enough for me.

I agree I was probably more immersed when I was playing Fallout 3 but the fun factor is all borderlands. Running and gunning with lilith is absolutely a blast. But now i just want some sword and board action!

High Fantasy bores me. even if it is made by Bioware. The trailers were a huge turn off as well.
Well bioware have said that the story will be more hard fantasy e.g George R.R. Martin.
Of course it being bioware it will of course have all the standards of high fantasy: elves, lots of magic etc. but that said a lot of high fantasy elements would work well in a more in depth plot

yup its great im about lvl 47 now with the hunter ill replay it as lilith as her skill looks fun, what do you think of it?
as for fallout it ennoyed me so much with the option and collecting items wondering are u making a wrong move with every turn, also the dialog was ennoyin, but wit borderlands u can igone every quest info (which i did) with no repercusions and the gun loot is great, well atleast when u get a great gun but u have to wade throu alota crap to get to em.

im happy with finally a good merge of shooting and rpg that fits me perfictly, i really hope theres a sequal its my dream campaign.
