Back when I started the tabletop game it was space wolves all the way, loved thier look and the fact that they opperated almost indipendantly from the rest of the imperium, functioning as packs in a very tribal way, just loved thier backstory.

Ever since DoW2 tho I've been drawn to the tyranids mainly because the idea of them fascinates me, consuming worlds for some unknown purpose, adding the dna and resources to thier own constantly evolving, they might not be as in depth history or personality wise as the rest of the 40k universe but like I said, just fascinating to me. not to mention 40 foot aliens with blade sharp claws kick ass :p
And then of course there are the two theories, each worse than the last:

Theory 1- The three Hive Fleets that wrecked everyone's shit so far and have only been beaten back at great cost are just little tiny tendrils of a much-greater force to follow and nomnom everyone, or;

Theory 2- The sudden emergence of the Tyranids en masse means that, like wild animals in a forest fire, they are actually running away from something...

Take your pick. We're all fucked either way.
What if it's a mix of 1 and 2, these are the scouting parties looking for somewhere to run to?

I'm pretty sure that the 'Nids Hivemind is actually the 4th C'Tan- The Outsider.

So yeah, between the Void Dragon (all priase to the Omnissiah!) about to wake up on Mars and and the Outider leading his waves of organic killing machines, the 40K galaxy is pretty much screwed.
OK... I'm gonna just go ahead and call you on this bullshit... so here we go:-

1. the tyranids have a little pattern emerging, they're doing they're damnedest to AVOID any worlds with a necron tomb sat on it.

2. The Outsider hates ALL organic life, he was the only c'tan to desire the annihilation of ALL life rather than just SENTIENT life.

3. and more importantly: the Outsider is awake and active, he was probably the 1st to awaken to be honest, he wiped an eldar fleet out, single handed, leaving a single survivor. That appears in either the Eldar or Necron codex mate.

For me, it has to be the Space Soviets (t'au) or possibly the Chaos Space Marines.

Oh, and to all those wanting Deathwatch or a new Imperial Codex, that isn't space marine, Codex: Inquisition is on its way as soon as they can be bothered to publish it, though it may be 3 separate smaller codexes or one fucking huge one is unclear at the minute.

Space Marines!
or maybe the Tyranids.

These are the coolest concepts of WH40k, which is prolly why Blizzard based the terrans and the zerg on them.

The orks and Chaos are way too much fantasy and not sci-fi enough for my liking and I don't like 50/50 crossovers.
The concept of ork technology running on waagh belief is just too off. Demons are lame.

Bullshit, you say? I will simply refer you to post 265 on this thread. I won't bother to copy it all down here.

well theres a simple way to derail that the C'tan cannot interact with the warp and the tyranids are controlled by a large hive mind that causes a shadow in the warp due to its size not its absence. and the c'tan dont care about killing everything they just want some cattle to herd

For the Greater Good! The Tau will let you acknowledge your wrongdoings and let you join them. After years of re-education, you might just be a productive member of the society. And, tech is where any army is at--range, stealth, and ambush are all great ways to play a game.

That was going to be point number 4, but I had a severe attack of 'oh shit, I can't be arsed to type any more' :p

I'm back now and I'm gonna say this to your little theory Undead Dragon King, it makes interesting but VERY flawed reading.

An extra problem with it :-

The tyranids are from another GALAXY, they'll only end up nomming they're way through every other galaxy in the 40k universe over time.

Oh, and not to forget the question of why the hell would the Outsider even bother? Alone of all the Star Gods, he doesn't care for the use of minions. He won't stop them from carrying out his will, he just won't actually make use of them.

...

...

...

And another thing, the 'nids are harvesting biomass, not soul-energy, it's soul-energy that the C'Tan are after, and biomass that the Hive Mind is peckish for.

So as I said, pretty and flowery bullshit, but it doesn't quite hide the fact that, I'm almost sorry to say, it's still bullshit at heart.

The Dark Eldar. There everyone's favorite Drug induced, slaving, and perhaps best of all, they are the biggest bunch of pimps in the galaxy.

Thought that job was under the Followers of Slaanesh. :p

EDIT: Thought I'd put up this link. Doesn't matter which faction you think is the greatest, this guy's Noise Marine squad is probably one of the most BAMF things in existence.

The Imperium, more specifically, the Ultramarines, one of the few actual good guys in the grimdark future of WH40K. (Not including Space Wolves and Salamanders)

Elfdar. Unlike most of the other races, they actually care about their own soldiers and people, instead of simply purging them off the face of the universe for looking at them slightly wrong. (I'm looking at you, Emprah.) They're almost just as planned as Tzeentch, and they might stand a genuine chance at winning the war if everything works out with Y'nnead.

The Imperium is covered in way too much red tape, and unless the Emperor wakes up, they're generally screwed. Da Boyz could definitely win if Gork and Mork called up a full scale WAAAAGH, but they're also completely screwed if Nidz start incorporating their genes. Chaos will kill you faster than a speeding bullet if you don't benefit your god in some way, and the Dark Elfdar are so low in number that they're really only safe in the Webway. Also, I am not fighting alongside another player named Faptau.

Although, if Imperial Guard aren't strictly NPCs in the MMO, I might go Death Korps of Kreig just because they're fucking awesome.
