The Xenomorph are terrifying because a) they are natural born killers in every way b) being overpowered by them means that not only will you be killed (in a grusome way) but that your friends will have more of them to deal with and c) they were designed by H.R Gieger, that is just awesomeness unbound.

The Tyranids are also pretty bad, after all, if they can cause major trouble for the Space marines (you know, the kind who are 7 ft tall and have enough spare organs to rival a back street surgeon?) then they must be pretty badass.
