Which bands will remain timeless?

Alice in Chains for sure.
Some of Coldplay's songs (clocks isnt bad), I think 30 seconds to mars, shinedown since they're getting more coverage on radio stations. As for an individual timeless song (I know, off topic, but still kinda on) Little Lion Men by Mumford and Sons.
EDIT: Also a nomination of Staind. They can cross different spectrums of the rock meter pretty easily. esepcially in thier Breaking the Cycle CD.

Well, Dream Theater, they have a lot of people who hate 'em, but they're still a phenomenal band in terms of technicality and innovation. I'd say they'll be pretty timeless.
Coldplay is my personal choice, but to be quite honest, if you're looking for timeless, rap and hip-hop have far more contenders than anyone else. Eminem, Nas, Tupac, Biggie, even The Roots will be remembered for a long while. They're icons of the 90s just as The Beatles are an icon of the 60s and Queen, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, etc were icons of the 70s.
EDIT - MC Hammer. As much for his catastrophic financial fuckup as for "Can't Touch This". He's an excellent representative of the early 90s.
I don't even like rap and hip-hop that much, but as far as history is concerned, they have the biggest names.

Coldplay. Say what you like about them, but I really do think that they will be remembered many years from now.

My point is: the oldest music we have is from the 18th century, who knows what people listened to before that?

Will The Beatles remain timeless? I just wonder because some of the "younger" generation seems to be developing a dislike of their music. A "backlash" if you will. (I am 19 but I like The Beatles)

I'd like to say Green Day, System of a Down, and maybe Coldplay for "modern" bands, but I think it's hard to say now. Linkin Park may be up there if their new album follows Minutes to Midnight.
Going down in history like the great composers or musicians of past, I think the only band really going down in history similarly is the Beatles. I think that music today is less about individual artists and more big genre hits which will bundle together to be timeless in the way that Beethoven or Bach are.
