In recent music, I'd probably go with Girls like Boys, or Tokio Hotel.
However, nothing could possibly surpass my hatred for Bruce Springsteen.

Everyone is obviously going to say Foo Fighters, Paramore, etc. I don't like them either. However, I never really liked Muse. I don't know, they just come off as a sort of "techno-rock" band, rather than just rock or metal or something. They also feel too indie for my tastes. By indie, I mean MGMT. I'm not saying Muse is the same as MGMT, I'm just saying that they have that sort of electronic sound mixed into some of their songs, which I simply do not like.

Elaborate, please. For I love "emo". Bands like Embrace, Moss Icon, Sunny Day Real Estate, American Football, Nation of Ulysses...

... oh wait. You're talking about the stuff that gets passed off as "emo" nowadays. Yeah, that stuff sucks. I think it's so amusing that bands that get classified as "emo" have nothing to do with it.
There are no classic-emo haters, because not a lot of people know about it. Ten bucks to the first person who can say they actually know who Christie Front Drive is.

Nonetheless, emo is a completely changed genre, but I still enjoy it.

I don't really get how this relates to my original post, though. It's a simple observation I've made that most gamers that use forums are metal-fans, and on a general level hate emo.
hrmmm good point. Also, kudos for the CFD pull. In terms of 90's stuff I always preferred Braid, but that's just me... and my inappropriate love for Bob Nanna. I see what you're saying though. I guess I'm just one of those purists who gets up in arms the second my beloved genre gets chastised. I mean, its not the first and certainly won't be the last genre to get bastardized, but for some reason, red flags go up in my mind the second someone talks about it.

I like metal too, I mean, I'm seeing Thursday AND the Dillinger Escape Plan next month, so I guess you can have the best of both worlds.

Radiohead.

This is proof that the 1990's added nothing to the evolution of music. The trends still continue on today. Thank God for European Metal.

Oh God, so many to choose from..

I have a long list that I detest equally, but Radiohead come to mind as a band that have a special place of pure loathing in my world, and yet everyone around me are convinced they're the best thing ever.

This question is based around the fact that I absolutely cannot stand any Red Hot Chilli Pepper songs. I can't stand their music or his voice, despite everyone around me loving them, it's just a fact.

So which (just pick 1) "cool" or "in" band can't you stand?

[ps - bands such as backstreet boys, the wiggles, or roxette are not cool or in, and are hence to be excluded from this discussion]
Odd. I love RHCP, and everyone around me is convinced they're shit.

I'd say AC/DC as my first choice, but it's a damn long list...

EDIT: You know what, fuck it. Anything anyone 'mainstream' has ever loved, along with their FUCKING HALO and FUCKING WII and FUCKING SHITTY HIP HOP - owait, is absolute crap.

I'm actually getting really depressed over this. I'm so expectant of people, and it's not made any better by a guy who sits in my [10th grade/Year 9] ICT class who can't be fucked doing ANY work AT ALL, plays Crazy Taxi all period, and can hardly even FUCKING READ. There's also a selfish little shit in my class who hasn't done any English homework for the whole year.

AND I'M IN THE FUCKING A CLASS! WHAT'S WRONG WITH EVERYONE?!

Green Day, they use to actually be punk, then they completely changed into some rock pop that tried to pass itself off as being edgy and alternative, if your going to sell out at least admit that your doing it, don't try to pretend your still down with the real music.

You dislike the Chili Peppers, therefore we can't be friends :(
I like seether though so we might have a chance at being mutual aquaintances.
OT: Do I really have to say it? The Jonas Brothers.

EDIT: Ignore the guy above me, and make sure you don't look at my avatar. For some reason I can't change it.

Anything Indie.
I just don't get it, how can music so generic be so popular.

Dragonforce are very samey also.
Metallica is bleh! (Especially Death Magnetic...)

Alternative rock is quite poor as a genre also.

AC/DC is catchy, can't help but love 'em!

Braid's great. I'm Afraid of Everything lives on to be one of the best songs I've ever heard, but Valentine by CFD is just absolutely beautiful. That EP they released with Boy's Life was amazing.

But another thing to take in account are the massive amount of classic-style emo bands coming out. Check out "The Motel Life". They're a new, almost unheard-of band that's giving there album away for free right now.

And one last thought. I'm not telling you to do deliberately looking for new emo bands that you actually might like. I'm just going to recommend you stay open-mind to it. It's not getting any less popular (you can tell because Abosultepunk is still growing XD), so there's going to be more and more coming, and taking the future and what's already been released in the decade of '00, there's bound to be some stuff out there that you'll like.

Are you kidding me? Indie is the genre that has completely unstructured and nontraditional 13 minute-long songs, strange vocal effects, and crazy experimental shit thrown in for symbolic meaning. What about that seems generic to you?

What people seem to miss, is that indie is mostly an underground genre, and what gets played on radio doesn't even scratch the surface of the genre.

Black Eyed Peas.

They came to Perth, Australia in october (where i live), alot of my friends went. It's funny 'coz back in june they bought thier tickets. I told them not to because the would get bored of the 2 songs of theirs that they liked (Boom Boom Pow and I got a feeling) before October. The night before the concert I was at my friends house and he was frantically trying to sell his ticket because the didnt want to waste the $130 he spent on the ticket.

I laughed, i had told them that the Black Eyed Peas were shit they didnt believe me.
Me proven correct yet again.

Wow you just failed so hard there buddy it's not even funny. The 1990s added nothing to the evolution of music? HOW CAN ANYONE SAY THAT and not be clinically retarded? Nirvana, The Flaming Lips, Neutral Milk Hotel, Built to Spill, Pavement, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Jane's Addiction, My Bloody Valentine, Smashing Pumpkins, AND FUCK YES RADIOHEAD. All of these artists were unique and brought originality to music after a somewhat depressing drought in the 1980s. Seriously, you clearly don't like Indie or Alternative Rock, and that's fine, but don't litter these forums with your musical ignorance and metal fan-boy idiocy. You're entitled to your opinion, and that's fine if you don't like Radiohead, but claiming the 1990s added nothing to the evolution of music is absolute bullshit.

Oh, and to make my post relevant to the OP, I'm sort of unclear about what you meant by "cool" - "cool" as in trendy, underground indie music, or "cool" in the sense that it's on the radio? I'm going to assume you mean the latter and say the Jonas Brothers, or maybe the Black Eyed Peas.
