So a big thread full of younger (I must assume) people mentioning FPS games that came out after the advent of computer assistance for players.

To those old-schoolers mentioning proper FPS games, congratulations.

I'm actually going to say a bit about Fallout 3 and New Vegas if you don't mind.

This is probably true about a number of FPSs...but anyone who thinks it's easy to hit a tiny speck in the distance, so far out that VATS throws up its hands in disgust, is crazy. There was a topic in here before about the use of iron sights. Well, think of it this ways. Doing it the hard way certainly teaches you how to really aim, doesn't it?
There's nothing quite like a hardscope critical headshot on a deathclaw with an Anti material rifle!!! The near constant sway even when crouched only adds to the thrill when you get the slow motion head explosion:'D

Team Fortress 2 requires tactics and planning as much as it requires gun skill. I like to think that Halo requires skill as well, because of how much of a difference teamwork can make and how necessary the ability to track an erratically moving target is. In games like Call of Duty you can snap to a target and kill him in seconds, but Halo games, especially Reach, require careful shot placement and timing in order to reliably kill enemies.
Reach? Reach is just using the right equipment... popping armour lock and lucking out as a team mate saves you ass isn't skill..
Popping armour lock and getting saved by a teammate doesn't actually net you any kills, or do anything for your team. It doesn't require any skill, but it also doesn't get you anywhere, so I don't see what point you're trying to make.

Nothing wrong with simplicity, it makes it easier to understand, its not like any given FPS is like 'push button, get leet kills'. In the end games that have a nice low start on their learning curve can actually be more fun, its part of the reason the noob tube hasn't gone away from COD yet, it gives the fresh meat a chance to survive and actually feel like their having a good time, same thing can be said about the RCXD from Black Ops or the Gustav from Bad Company 2.

I think Team Fortress 2 to an extent takes some skill.
As to this I kinda have to agree, I haven't played it that much but figuring out how to deal with an engi nest takes some serious skill in my mind.

I hate it when poeple imply first person shooters. It is certainly the mmorpg's that take no skill. Critting randomly from between 6000 and 9000 is a joke in itself, so critting randomly between 3000 and 9000 like you can using choas bolt in wow is waay past actual skill. Earlier first person shooters require intense levels of skill and knowlage, more than just about any of the games I know. Here are some montage videos of these old games.

IF YOU STILL THINK THERE IS NOT A FIRST PERSON SHOOTER THAT TAKES SKILL, GO TO QUAKE LIVE, ENTER A DUAL AND SEE HOW YOU DO AGAINST THE MID TIER PLAYERS.

COD players SUCK when they try to play Bad Company 2
I don't know how true that may hold with others, but with me it's rather bullshit.

See, while they may be very, very different...They both have their vices.

Call of Duty has you sprinting around sniping people with assault rifles, and plastering people with shotguns, and akimbo machine pistols. Bad Company has you driving around in tanks, APCs, and helicopters nuking everyone.

So if a complete "noob-tard" was to play either, they could still win. Guns are about the same. Minus, of course, snipers with bolt-actions being able to work the bolt while still scoping (As fucking IF!).

Assault rifles are still rifles that can go full-auto if necessary, SMGs can still snipe you, grenade/rocket launchers are still bullshit, frags are spammable and easy to kill with, the only actual differences are that snipers are common, yet still infuriatingly kill-joy, there's vehicles, and the maps are bigger than my backyard.

Sure, a guy that uses machine pistols and shotguns exclusively will get his arse handed to him, depending on map, but you could still play both the same, pretty much. Unless you quick-scope. Or camp. Or want a sniper rifle and shotgun at the same time. Or rocket spam, unless you have an assault backing you up.

Disclaimer: This may just be my play-style that lets me play both seamlessly, without really changing much. Also, no harm or offense was meant, by any part of this post. Unless you're a CoD quick-scoper, or BC2 heli-whore. You know who you are. And, yes, I know that both require skill AND practice, but you cannot tell me they're not both bullshittingly overpowered. And I also agree that CoD players are all lone wolf, and that's the complete opposite of BC2's squad-mentality oriented players.

Halo: Reach. Try playing Invasion without skill and a workable team.
Thread sucessfully derailed. I would've agreed with you if you were talking about singleplayer on Legendary, but anything to do with multiplayer? Please.
Uh, no. Try harder next time. Playing Reach without a team you trust, with no skill, and with no overall competence is deathly. Like I said, FUCKING INVASION. You're screwed if you try to go lone wolf with Invasion without organizing your team. Also, how about Grifball? God, that takes a surprising amount of skill.

I kind of had a hard time getting any decent playability out of myself while playing Medal of Honor or the first Bad Company (haven't played the second.)
