Golden sun was probably the best jrpg I ever played
Etrian Odyssey best dungeon crawler
Starcraft 2 best rts (even if its just the beta)
and because you said game, YuGiOh was actually a rather interesting game and did a lot of things great

perfect as in perfect playing experience: none. Perfect as in doing exactly what it set out to do: MW2. Set out to be a traditional multiplayer fps that worked. It does so perfectly, of course the campaign sucks and it's completely unimaginative, but the online multiplayer is very good as a multiplayer fps.

Team Fortress 2.

Playing Modern Warfare 2 just made me appreciate it all the more. Probably as good as online shooters will ever get.

As a series, Ratchet & Clank is definitely near the edge of perfection, as well.
no it isn't .____.
the controls are annoying, there are some cool characters(Captain Qwark, Courtney Gears) but most are uninteresting and i don't remember any enemies anymore (except some slimeish monsters in R&C3 where you got to collect the sewer crystals, i spent a lot of time there. that place reminded me of oldskool FPS's). the weapon designs are awesome though, some environments were really nice and it has good music sometimes.
there's also nothing new or really original in it. not that that is needed to be a perfect game, but it does make the player more interested in the game and makes you more forgiving wih the minor flaws.
it's made by very talented people and i have a lot of respect for them, but the game doesn't come close to perfection.
Ah, here we get into the question of exactly what a "near perfect game" IS. The lack of creativity in enemy design in the R&C series rarely registers for me here. Certainly I love unique and interesting enemy design (such as in DMC), but when it's not present, I don't truly notice.

Though I am curious as to what you didn't like about the controls, as they always have felt quite good to me, never getting in my way. Did they just feel stiff to you, or is it something more?

Ocarina of Time is definitely one of them. I think if we remember the time it took for them to make the game is pretty good since they weren't rushed and had time to work on the game. Portal is also one of them. I liked how it was a first person shooter but you had to solve puzzles with the gun you were given and you didn't just go around shooting things.

I think a lot of people won't agree with me on this, but I say Resistance 2. So, so awesome.

Edit: Also, just remembered that Ratchet and Clank are just as awesome, if not more.

Okami. Only fault in the entire game was that it offered little challenge. Everything else is near perfect.
this is pretty true.
although i managed to get a game over at the beginning of the game.

okami was actually the first thing that came up in me but i think prince of persia:the sands of time comes a little bit closer to perfection.
but the definite winner must be Disgaea (any game i suppose, haven't played 2 or 3 yet).
i don't need any other game if i have a disgaea game. i bet i would enjoy it for 1000's of hours, even if i don't play multiplayer.

Isn't the topic What do YOU think is a perfect game? That was Quorothorn's opinion that ratchet and clank was near perfection. Every game mentioned here has flaws, but that doesn't mean they can't be perfect to an individual. I know that Jaws Unleashed had flaws, but I still had fun with it. He merely had fun with R&C and thought it was a fun game. That is HIS opinion.

I don't really know, because every time I play a game that's close to perfect, say Batman: AA, the tiny flaws which make it not perfect begin to stick out even more, like some kind of uncanny valley effect for perfection. As we approach perfection in games the flaws become more apparent until we'll reach a singularity point and BAM, perfection all the time.

In the end I think the perfect game comes down to a matter of opinion. People may play awefully reviewed games and love them and for them would be the perfect game. And there are people who will play games with some of the highest reviews ever seen and hate them. I think that in my opinion for me Half Life 2 and the episodes 1+2 came the closest to perfection. Unfortunately there were a few things that bring it down but they were small enough to over look.

Ocarina of Time was 99.999999% perfect. Only one thing was bad.

Navi. I hate that fucking fairy!

Sorry, what I meant to say was Ocarina of Time. From a game perspective, it's pretty much perfect. I can't think of any flaws in it.
I agree with this. It may be the obvious pick in this topic, but the more I think about it, the harder it is to list any flaws with Ocarina of Time.

Golden Sun + Golden Sun: The Lost Age.

Pretty much the pinnacle of RPGs in my eyes, and one of my favourite games of all time.
