Having been listening to the sound-track for the woefully un-known platformer 'The Misadventures of P.B Winterbottom [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Triirdqmevo]' (of which only one topic [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/96382-Capturing-Silent-Films-in-a-Top-Hat] exists on the escapist according to the search function), and drinking in its delicious old-timey tunes, I realised that while being far from the best soundtrack in existence, it is certainly one of my personal favourites.

The hokey tunes, the classical - almost villainous beats... it suits me right down to the ground. Having done another quick search, I discovered several topics which discuss which games have the BEST sound-tracks, but I'm not concerned with that. 'Best' is just a matter of popular opinion, and every individual has their own thoughts. So I ask you, what games (no matter how new or how ancient) have your own favourite sound-tracks? (And if you feel up to it - Why?)

My personal list (which I may very well change as the topic progresses) is - in no particular order:

The Misadventures of P.B Winterbottom [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M84KjmYjtUg] (For the reasons I mentioned before...)

Jet Force Gemini [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEOMJsbHC5Y] (When I was a kid, this was my 'Halo' - The fellow of whom I borrowed it took it back before I could complete it, so to this day - one of my favourite games remains forever incomplete... but I will always remember the epic music, the amazing scenery and the mad-cap fight scenes fondly.)

World of Goo [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dM0ADAaUri0] (I couldn't honestly forgive myself if I left out World of Goo from my list of favourite sound-tracks. Kyle Gabler is an absolute master of the art, and beyond simply being one of the most gorgeous sound-tracks I've ever heard, the Game changed me as a person... it's magnificently inspiring.)

Team Fortress 2 [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7laxF8se_so] (Yes... is it a surprise to anyone that my most played game also happens to have one of my favourite sound-tracks? It's a short sound-track to be sure, with a tragically small amount of original music - but it evokes an ages of Spies and Espionage with wacky gadgets, and that's all it needs to do to be in my list!)

Mario 64 [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ulMNR79P04] (One of the few games I can still play without looking down on it in Any way - and in my opinion, the last game in which Bowser was actually still bad-ass and not a total wuss... Mario 64's soundtrack always gets a giddy smile on my face.

So how about you men and women of the escapist? What games have tunes that still ring in your merry little ears today?

Well Medal of Honor Airborne has my favorite in showing the intensity of battle, Medal of Honor Front Lines is my favorite in showing the horrors of war. But Kingdom Hearts 2 has the best soundtrack for a romantic.

Oh man.
Metroid Prime really is my favorite in this aspect.
It had such amazing music that fit the style, atmosphere, and environments of the game.
and
are two songs from the game that really stick out to me.

Sega genesis Dune 2: the battle for Arrakis... it has some awesome tunes, like "Turbulence"
Another favourite of mine is Neverwinter Nights 2 - the tune from the tavern
And lately i can't get Baldur's Gate epic theme out of my head.

Almost forgot, the theme song from the old Robocop 3 video game...epic.

Well, I just took a listen - it's a rather good sound-track to be sure... but it just doesn't speak to me in the same way as the others. Perhaps if I knew the characters, or the game for that matter - I would enjoy it a lot more... All the games on my list are ones I've experienced first hand, hence the enjoyment factor.

Besides... I'm more of a fan of Grand-Dramatics and old-timey music myself.

If I could walk around with Professor Fate's theme [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Rvtf1qlKrc] following me wherever I go, I totally would...

Oh my... now there's some fine music. I remember skipping the Menu music for that game simply because it gave me the creepy-crawlies... but it is totally brilliant for that very reason.

I certainly can't fault Metroid for its music, no sir... Particularly the Ridley Boss-Battle music. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcCHiet6t1k]

Playing the game is actually pretty important to liking the music, as each character's theme matches them perfectly.

Naturally... Don't suppose there are any quirky mad-scientist characters in that game?

There are literally too many soundtracks from games that are my favourites, such as Gears of War, Halo, Fallout 1 - 3, but if I was forced to choose, I guess Mass Effect 2. Jack Wall did such an amazing job in capturing the epic scale of what was happening and to actually make us feel and care about it through the music, and he was able to expand on what was an already excellent soundtrack for Mass Effect.

Of course I realise all composers and soundtracks are supposed to make you feel and care about what you see, it adds depth and emotion and all that, but I think the soundtrack to Mass Effect 2 did it better than any other.
