I also liked seed because it was soo dark. It was one of those anime that actually let people die, even fairly important characters like flo and her father. and athrun's friend the gundam pilot.

I'm going to have to say Gundam Wing. :) Plan on buying the Endless Waltz...I think that's what the movie is called if I remember correctly. xD

Wing was the best.

The battles actually felt like they had purpose and soul.

The first time i was actually vocal about a fight on tv was the Heavyarms / Tallgesse fight. I was standing in the middle of my living room screaming.

G Gundam
Because the idea of Gundams modeled after stuff like cacti and windmills puts a smile on my face.

08th MS team was by far my favorite, I quite like when a series doesn't drag on for eternity.

Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket is the best six episodes anywhere in Gundam.

The original (movie trilogy form), 0083, Zeta, 08th MS Team, Turn A, SEED, SEED Stargazer, and 00 (and G in a campy way) are all pretty good, too.

I really don't like Wing other than the OZ guys. Basically, 00 did all the themes and stuff from Wing only made it actually good.

I liked Wing until, like the poster said, the heroes started trying to go all peaceful. I want to see mechs blow up, not have their arms shot off or headplates broken so they can no longer fight.
Liked Seed too, until the main character did the whole "War is evil, I'm not really on anyone's side" thing. Sigh...

the ones i like:
SEED (i like the story, an the character seem more driven due to the more personal nature of the story, the Freedom kicking all kinds a ass helped to :3)

Wing ( first gundam series i saw, and loved it from the get go and still very good)

0083 ( good story, good fights, what more you need)

8th MS team ( more story driven then the others, and more realistic in some respects, fights where also excellent)

00 (kinda like gundam wings ' peace through bigger sticks' only on every one, not just one group, kinda loses points with the 00 Raisers unholy god moding powers, but not enough for it to matter, like a -1 debuff on a +30 weapon >.> also liked the throw back to the first series with gundam 0)

G ( as John Funk said, in a campy, stupid fun way, an imo Dragon Gundam VS Burning/God Gundam, BEST FIGHT in the whole show)

and the first one (if you fancy gundam, you need to see it, period. at the very least to show the shows roots some respect)

the ones i don't like
Zeta
Destiny ( i dis like these two for the exact same reason, their main characters, both are whinny jerks, Kamile, i was HAPPY when he went retarded. Auska, -.- *sighs* i was hoping something bad would happen to him .. damn it .. but in Destinys case it was made a little better when the focus shifted away for him, the whinny fuck -.- )

0080 ( the fights where good, the 2 there are -.- ... but it failed on story hard imo)

any way, there ya go :3

I've seen Mobile Suit Gundam, 08th MS Team, and 0080, as well as Gundam Wing, G Gundam and SD Gundam and parts of Gundam Seed. I think my favorite was 0080.

I loved the first season of 00 and spent all of season 2 wanting to shoot someone. The first season was an amazing story of intrigue and backstabbing that cumulated in a no holds barred, everyone dies final battle. Then season two rolled around and suddenly "Oh, every survived except _____ and ____." And I was like "...wat?" Then they pulled that crap with the Setsuna being a "natural Innovator" and yeah, that was it. I'm interested for the movie though.

*edit* Treize is still one of my all time favorite villains.

08th MS Team. I used to watch other Gundam series on toonami and, while not meaning any insult to their fans, the basic pattern I noticed was that they were all about an uber-super-duper-unobtanium-forged-unbeatable-war-mecha-machine with a whiny teenage angst-stick whom everyone basically took on faith was the best pilot evar. To be fair, sometimes there was more than one of them.

08th MS Team, by contrast, wasn't about super machines or super pilots. It was a war story with a love plot under it. The battles weren't one sided, tactical thinking, teamwork, and the occasionally effective use of guerrilla warfare being required to win and even then it never looked "easy". In the only episode to feature an "ace" pilot, he clearly displayed his superiority for tactical thinking and piloting rather than simply having the most awesome machine on the field. His appearence caused palpable fear in the hearts of the charactors and even in death still succeeded in his mission.

The overall storyline was kind of predictable in many places and the main charctor does the "Wahh, war is bad" thing in his quest for love, but in many places this comes off as naive idealism rather than whiny moping, so I forgive him for the most part, if for no other reason than the fact that the rest of the show is good enough to make up for most of his faults.

There's a basic test to decide if you're going to like this short series before you watch it. DO YOU LIKE SUPERHEROES? If so, you're better off with Seed or 0080 or whatever else Gundam is about when I'm working hard to ignore it. If you're more of a realist than a superhero lover, then 08th MS Team is for you, give it a try.

Probably Gundam Wing but that was the only series that I watched every episode of. The funny thing is that I watched this in my early teens I suppose and not once during the entire series did I draw any subtext from the characters.

Years later I stumble upon shoujoai.com and do some digging through the Gundam series. Was absolutely floored by just how many M/M pairings there were on that series and the whole situation just felt rather amusing since I was digging for lesbian pairings in a series that mainly featured gay pairings (weren't actually featured of course but only by what people were "seeing" in the anime).

I haven't watched too many, only Gundam (the original), Gundam Wing, G Gundam (or something), and a little of the manga Gundam Seed (stopped because it was boring as hell).

My fave was Gundam Wing. The main pilots, and even the antagonist, Zechs, were all colorful, deep characters. The story was engaging, and even a little dark at times.

Whoa, whoa, WHOA

Did you just say 0080 is a superhero Gundam show?

It's like, the six most painfully realistic and depressing episodes in all of Gundam. And it's awesome.

08th MS Team hands down, also someone had made an AMV to 08th that gave away no spoliers. An epic AMV done with footage from 08th MS Team, song by Nightwish. A truly epic AMV <a herf=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATS5UsFKyNQ>08th MS Team AMV - 10th Man Down. I hate Gundam Wing, worst one of them all.
