First off, I loathe the term overrated (and by extension underrated). Always has this level of arrogance that it's your fault if you happen to like something that someone else doesn't.

Anyway, while both are well made games on a technical level (albeit in different ways) and I respect them for what they did (particularly TLoU when it comes to animating character movements to feel natural) I found neither game enjoyable.

Gameplay in Infinite was a stripped down version of the previous Bioshock games, keeping weapon upgrades while also limiting you to 2 weapons at a time makes things annoying as you want to keep your upgraded weapons but you're not always able to find ammo for them. Leading you to swap them for inferior weapons. I wasn't a fan of the more swashbuckling nature of the combat rather than the tense, slow combat of the previous games. Booker and Elizabeth were not enjoyable characters for me and thus the story had no weight since it all revolved around them. The other characters weren't that interesting either (save the Luteces). Comstock barely had any presence in the story when compared with Andrew Ryan and just came off as some random religious fanatic. The Vigors didn't feel particularly special (with the exception of Murder of Crows). The upgrades for them never really felt like they added much either to make them feel any more useful (again, with the exception of the corpse bomb Murder of Crows upgrade). Columbia also wasn't that interesting of a place to explore compared to Rapture. Last but not least, Songbird, extremely disappointing how little it actually appeared in the game and even when it did show up it never really felt that dangerous, everything it did was pretty much just a set piece that couldn't hurt you.

The Last of Us I'm less down on than Infinite but it still wasn't that enjoyable of a time. Gameplay was decent but had problems. Naughty Dog continuing their trend of having enemies being able to take multiple headshots was annoying. The clickers walked a fine line between challenging and being plain old frustrating, and for me ended up as the latter. In the end, outside of the clicker bits, I found it much easier to just go guns blazing rather than being stealthy, which is always disappointing as I'm very fond of stealth games. I didn't connect with Ellie or Joel so once again the story was largely unaffecting for me since it (like infinite) revolves around them and their relationship. Graphics were pretty but at times rather dodgy with it's areas with unfinished textures. It was a decent game, but I never got onboard with it. Though I would say it's the better game compared to Infinite, which pales in the towering shadow of the first Bioshock (and to a lesser degree Bioshock 2).

I like them both. Not as much as the early reviewers did, but they're both good games with above-average stories for the medium. I thought they were over-rated* at first, but the hype backlash has grown so great that I'd probably find them both under-rated now. It's "Final Fantasy VII syndrome" all over again.

I prefer The Last of Us, though. I like the story marginally better (or, at least, I found it harder to nitpick than Bioshock) and the gameplay is more up my alley. I like the stealth mechanics and the melee combat felt meaty as fuck; every blow had a real weight to it. The guns felt pretty heavy and powerful, too, even if some enemies took a few more shots to kill than you'd expect. The lonely moments with the infected, such as the flooded hotel basement, were great as well. They had a real tense survival horror atmosphere to them. It's a shame that the human enemies were so much more frequent, but they were still fun to fight.

I'm not fond of the big spectacle-driven type of AAA shooter, but I still managed to enjoy Infinite quite a lot. Probably because it had a really grandiose tone and great pacing which I feel other, similar games lack. Plus, the skylines and vigors made the combat much more fun and the relative lack of ammo made it feel a tad more tactical. The excellent visual and sound design also made everything you did look and feel cooler, too. Bringing down the airship and then having to get off of it is a pretty typical kind of setpiece, but the visuals, pacing and audio all made it feel awesome.

So yeah, both were great, prefer The Last of Us.

I haven't played TLOU, but I did watch a full playthrough of it..I found it particularly bland and clishee..nothing I haven't seen before.

Where as Bioshock Infinite I really enjoyed the story and the mindfuck it gave me with it's ending.

So take that as you will.

I haven't played either but I can tell you which one I'm more excited to finally play once I finally pass GO! and collect my $200;

The Last of Us looks good. The problem is, I've never had a lot of interest in Naughty Dog games since the Crash series. I'm not against a 3D, Survival, character drama but it doesn't look like something that I can really get a lot out of after the first playthrough or two.

Bioshock Infinite however is a first person shooter (+1 point) that lets me utilize awesome powers (+ another point) to combat giant freaking robots (+ another point again) in a flying city. Both games seem to take themselves really seriously which isn't something I generally care for but at least with Bioshock Infinite I have the opportunity to set people on fire using my left hand.

Like I said though, I haven't played either and plan on eventually playing both. That won't be any time soon however so I likely won't come back on here in a few days and admit that I was wrong about A or B. Just from what I've seen, I think I would have more fun with Bioshock than Last of Us. Another factor is my dislike of multiplayer so there's a supposedly great feature of Last of Us that I just won't use.

Well as far as I'm concerned there were several games that were way better than both of them that came out last year. I admit I liked both when I played them, but as time went on I started to like them less, especially Last of Us. If asked, I will say I liked Bioshock better, but I find it a bit lame these two will probably go down in history as the undisputed best games of 2013.

The Last of Us Vs Bioshock: Infinite, who is the most overrated? GTA 5, the two other once has merits beyond their genre and their name.

Ok, for the real fight: Infinite is more flawed, but more interesting. TLoU is more polished, but is not much more than that. Neither is "the Citizen Kane of Gaming", but atleast Infinite can call itself "the evagelion", I don't know what TLoU would be.But on the quetion of who is most overrated: TLoU is, because it's flaw is the lack of strengths, while Infinite's is that it's flawed and people do pick that up. +Infinite gets relativly easily away from the Metro test, TLoU is destroyed by it.

Quality and overrated are not mutually exclusive. They're both overrated, because no amount of quality will ever live up to the 10/10s, best games evarr and champion of the gen dribble. I haven't played The Last of Us, but I do plan on playing it just to see whether it's any better than Infinite and Grand Theft Auto V (the other massive overrated games of 2013). I hated Infinite, and I found GTA V to be a massive disappointment seeing as it looked like so much fun in the gameplay trailers and the reviews.

It's a great game.
I liked the human elements like when Ellie and Elizabeth entered that pie eating contest to win that teddy bear for the orphan.
The gameplay was fantastic, zipping around stealthily on skyrails as you using explosive plasmids vigors on the infected without them knowing was pretty fun.
The clickers were interesting in how you had to lead them out of town using your flute, but man I was so angry when the town refused to pay me. It just does such a good job showing you real people and how cruel they can be while wearing clown make-up.
I also like when Songbird swooped down from the sky to give Troy Baker a medal for possibly being the next Nolan North.
Lastly I found the ending very bittersweet in how Ellie was Elizabeth from Joel's future marriage of the past alternate reality because Booker was Joel in the present and thus they had to sacrifice themselves and humanity to save humanity.

All in all I think my choice is obvious.

I would say neither is overrated. That said, I do find Last of Us more relate-able, more emotional story with less plot holes and better characters. Better overall, and game itself is more valued among gamers in my opinion. On the other hand Bioshock Infinite bit a far bigger task with its story and while it under-delivered in many aspects of both gameplay and story it was really fun game with really emotional moments and raw messages.

What is the biggest difference is that Elizabeth never felt like a character, it fell like a plot device. There is never any meaningful interaction with her and lots of stuff she did was directly connected to easier game design or it was highly contrived. Ellie on the other hand felt like a tough and rough girl, that isn't like that at heard but by interaction with world so her teen self jumps out every now and then in just the perfect moments. She felt real. And the plot twist was, oh man,

- SPOILER -
- SPOILER -
- SPOILER -

plot twist in Last of Us felt like someone clenched your heart and squeezed it with all-powerfull hand made of dry ice when you realized how horrendous person you played yet perfectly understand why would he do it and can't really condemn him for it while Bioshock plot twist felt like a curiosity someone already told you about in detail.

- END OF SPOILER -
- END OF SPOILER -
- END OF SPOILER -

Both are really good games and communities that adore them have only some common participants but it's all just an opinion.

They're both fantastic games in my book. I'd place TLoU slightly higher on a list, but that's just personal preference.

What I really want to say is this: Can we, as a collective whole, please stop overusing the word 'overrated'? I just... despise it so much. The word is, in essence, saying, "I don't like this thing as much as others, therefore they are wrong for liking it so much." It'd be great if people could just accept that everyone judges the quality of certain things differently.

Er...uh...I think...no, wait...um...can I pick both?

I loved both games to death. The Last of Us was amazing and was almost right up there with Spec Ops: The Line in terms of emotion for me. The story and the characters just grabbed me and would not let go.

BioShock Infinite though was fun in other ways, with face-paced gameplay broken up with calm, character developing moments that weren't really moments at all, but actual levels. The story was as emotionally gripping at The Last of Us, but it was still a very good ride. I think both games deserve the praise they get and I love them both. I can't decide.

Can both of them be overrated?

I vote that both of them are overrated!

I will say that Bioshock: Infinite is better than TLOU, but that's like saying Butt-head is smarter than Beavis.

Which is better? Despite my love for Bioshock Infinite, I've got to go with The Last Of Us. I found the story more emotionally resonant and subtle. I actually enjoyed the gameplay much more than I did in Infinite*.

As for overratedness, I feel like both are really great games. Better to err on the side of overrating them. At least then, more people will play them.

*I liked Infinite's atmosphere, characters, ambition, and story parts, but I did have some serious gameplay issues. No inventory systems, no hacking, no crafting, no independent enemy systems to play off each other, much fewer supplemments in general to the functional but generic shooting. Damage boosts are functionally useless. Vigors are entirely interchangeable, all boiling down to the same three-way combo of crowd control/direct damage/trap. The health system was a disaster. The shield was effectively useless unless you upgraded it enough, and scavenging for health packs/food during combat was an entirely frustrating endeavor.

The story was great. I just didn't like having to slog through annoying gameplay to get through it.

Infinite has more flaws, but overall it's just a much more engaging game to me, in terms of story, characters, and sense of place. It even handled its gameplay better in my opinion, because even though it had certain places where it would throw you into a cutscene or alter player traits, it never took me out of the experience like the frequent cutting to cutscenes or huge amount of scripted sequences The Last of Us had.

Though The Last of Us had some great characters, I felt bored by almost everything about it. Despite the great designs of the Infected, the game never felt like much more than the tired "zombie apocalypse" I've seen so many times before.

Both of them have their pros and cons but for gripping my heart for the characters, I consider both to be some of the best games of this generation, if not ever.

Last of Us I felt left a little to be desired in the gameplay department but the story and emotion felt during Joel and Ellie's struggle made slogging through OK (not bad but not great) gameplay.

Infinite had better gameplay but the story was a touch weaker (and the ending could have been handled better; I don't hate the ideas and what the ending was but it could have been better since it's basically a fifteen minute info dump into what the hell happened)

With the ending being my deciding factor, I give the nod to The Last of Us with Infinite a hair behind. Unless something sneaks up on us and blows my brain away, I have a hard time thinking of anything that will beat out Last of Us as my game of the generation.

TLoU. Infinite's doing something that can be considered at the very least a little different. TLoU is just another zombie apocalypse story. Gee, haven't seen any of THOSE before.

Furthermore, the only thing TLoU really has going for it is character development. Yeah, it's really strong, but that's ALL IT HAS. Let's just admit it. The gameplay's meh. The environments are well done from a technical perspective but weren't anything we haven't seen in hundreds of other games before it. It might as well have been made into a movie and you wouldn't have lost anything in the transition.

Perhaps I don't like TLoU...

They're both pretty awesome games.

Bioshock Infinite seems to me like the kind of thing someone would make if it was their last or only chance to make something creative or memorable. As in I don't know if I'll ever get the chance again to make something with this scale and budget so I'm just going to cram everything I think is cool into this one game

-snip-

The Last of Us is certainly much more focused and clearly thoughtout than Infinite, its narrative is probably the best I've ever experienced in a videogame before. It did take me quite a while to fully appreciate it though as most of the really good stuff dosen't kick in until the second half, the first half is pretty much just typical videogame zombie mode and does drag on a bit but I suppose it all adds to the experience by the end.
Given that they've been compared so often as of late, I think this is the best way to compare them. Infinite's got lots of cool interesting ideas, between the plot, setting, and characters, while The Last of Us is more of a very polished and purposeful experience.

I'm the kind of person that prefers a tight narrative over just about everything, so I appreciated The Last of Us more. I also think that The Last of Us was more significant in the grand scheme of things in the way it's integrated all of the aspects of a game together. But given that description, I now understand why some people seem to prefer Infinite.

Ugh, this again. I'm not even going to bother debating Infinite with people since everything to be said for either side has already been said multiple times. Haven't played TLOU since I was zombied out when it was released but I'm sure it's a good game.

I personally found Infinite to be a great game although my favourite game from last year was Black Flag.

I've only played Infinite. Was it perfect? No. Would I have liked to see a lot of the concepts from the E3 previews in it? Hell yeah. I've beaten the game twice and every so often have the itch to replay it once again(especially after finishing BaS). I think that it suceeded amirably well despite trying to do a lot of things and becoming a bit of a mess at times. I loved the atmosphere, the plot and characters and it might have been just long enough to make it all work. I'm apparently a heretic as well because I liked it a hell of a lot better then BioShock, which I haven't been able to get myself to replay.

Someday I'll play TLoU and can actually answer the question of which is better.
