Which jerks go unpunished in video games

are there any games that have the villain defeat the hero and then the game ends and never comes back, not even in a sequel. I am aware of certain games with more than one possible ending like fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy) where any villain could triumph over the hero but are there any where the villain will always win and there's nothing you could do about it.

Try any arcade beat em' up...if any one reached the end without spending a weeks pay, then you need a life and probably need to glue your thumbs back on...

Dungeon Keeper 2... It's a game where you are actually encouraged to torture heroes, paladins and priests in your personal torture chamber with a succubus whipping them every couple of seconds, until they squeal information or join you... Your job is to take over the land and you decide the best way to do that is to slaughter the entire kingdom. Once in a while you get to summon the Reaper himself, who pretty much massacres the entire playing field of good guys...

If you go by the storylines instead of the ways that the players play the game, GTA games are more about how the main character is trying to make a living amid trying circumstances rather than just being a jerk... Especially Nico Bellic's story, as you can decide on some missions just how nice you want to be about things. The characters do some bad stuff, but its just for the sake of survival.

Sounds like the story and characterization did its job if it makes you feel that strongly about the characters.

Well GTA 4 had a moderate story not the best but the voice acters were all very good and the characters were all well writen. So I guess Manny will never come back.....

I personally hated Manny and tried to kill him myself. He was so fake, it was so obvious the way he talked and always had the camera in his face. Doing good for the sake of reputation is just as bad as doing the wrong thing.
But that's off topic.

Super Mario Galaxy...I mean Browser just gets a bad headache at the end. He needs to go to Gitmo for terrorizing the entire galaxy!

Fighting Games like SF/MK/etc where the bad guy can win...especially with Liu Kang's death by the hands of Shang Tsung but he comes back as a zombie... but I guess the "true ending" of those games have the good guys win...

I'm not sure of any game where the hero dies and the bad guys win. Games are too romanticize I guess...

What about mid-bosses though? There are lots of bit characters that act like bastards and then just get to fade away without receiving their just desserts (I'm thinking Ultros the meddling-ass octopus here).
