i would recommend the core media player but the only problem with it is that it crashes sometimes and you couldn't view some movies but it is great most of the time. my second choice is the VLC media player. its alright simple but very efficient.

For all of you who said "I use iTunes because I have an iPod." as if you were a slave forced to jump into a pool of barbed wire and salt, do not fret. I have the alternatives for iTunes that let you manage your iPod!

Winamp has native iPod support.

I use iTunes for music only because I went and manually done about 80% of all of my 20GB of songs meta data. I use MPC for videos grouped with CCC for .mkv files.

I have an LG Chocolate 2, so I use the software that came with the phone to organize my mp3 collection. It would be a pain to use that one for transfers, and another just to listen.

VLC player 90% of the time, though if we're strictly talking mp3's, then I go for Winamp, since it seems to use fewer resources.

i use Winamp for music and VLC for movies, never had any real problems with that setup, seems to work with just about everything, only movies i cant get to work are those specifically made for Quicktime, HD movies for example, but for those i either use Windows Media Player Classic or Quicktime Player.

It's only because Amarok doesn't work on Windows that I even consider using iTunes. That, and the fact that Windows is locked into this DRM rubbish that they insist on using on the iPod, unlike openSUSE, which can connect to the iPod directly, and break the DRM on it. I'm using VLC on most of my computers since I was suggested it, and because it's available on Windows and Linux, it's available cross-platform on all of my computers.
Yeah that's what you get for purchasing your MP3s on the iTunes store.

VLC player, it plays pretty much everything.
I use that on my PC
It plays anything and hardly takes any CPU.

I use Itunes on my mac and Adobe media player for other things :)

jetAudio. I got it a while back and fell in love. I don't know why, but I love that program.
