Skarmory. Why? Check this:
Agility,
Stealth Rock,
Spikes,
Whirlwind.

High defenses and tons of resistances and an already good speed... why has nobody thought of this? Its so easy to wind-lock your enemy's team and whittle them down with entry hazards it's not even funny.

My personal favorite is still Lanturn. I don't care that he's not "meta", volt absorb is an awesome ability, it has crazy hp, good special attack and fair speed, STAB Surf and Thunderbolt/Thunder, Confuse Ray and Thunder Wave (to make itself even more annoying)... I love my little light fish. I was a little disappointed it didn't get a new evolution (or at least some new toys. water absorb sucks for Lanturn compared to volt absorb) in gen IV or V...

Charizard is obviously the coolest, toughest, most BA non-legendary pokemon out there. No question. Even Ash had trouble training his, if you recall. Just goes to show how f***ing awesome Charizard is. He lays the smackdown on Ash Ketchum.

I enjoy restriction matches, they make things interesting, although the battle tower from Crystal was nothing but unfair, my young unknowledged mind had no way to beat a Fire Blasting level 10 Blissey. Charizard, Scyther, Gyrados, Pidgeot, Tauros and Gengar would be my team for an original 151 battle.

spiritomb or sableye as they are the only two pokemon in the game that have just the right type so nothing is super effective against them and they are immune to pyscic, ghost (I think) and something else.

Also sableye looks awesome.

They are immune to Psychic, Ghost, Normal and Fighting.
Plus if you use them in a 2v2 battle their is a way to make them invincible all you need is one of them, a Pokemon with the move trick, and Shedinja.
just have the shedinja and the one with trick out first, then have that pokemon use trick on the shedinja. it will switch their abilities so the one with trick will have Shedinja's ability Wonder Guard, just switch in the Spirtomb/Sableye, use trick on them and they will have Wonder Guard making them invincible to all except weather damage and other things like Darkrai's nightmare if they are put to sleep.

I always try to go for a basic 2 offensive, 2 defensive, and 2 mix/helpers.

tahts why my replacements doesnt work too well as a stand alone team Plus the typing. and of course they're built just for those purposes. They're a mix of offensive defense, or defensive offense.

Thanks for reminding me of my favorite little brick, Shuckle... who got a tasty new toy in Gen V in the form of Power Share (an Atk/Sp.Atk version of Pain Split). With Shuckle's nonexistent offenses, it cripples an opponent while boosting his all but guaranteed 150 base power Gyro Ball (or Rollout, if you feel like being reckless) while still leaving room for Rest/Talk. If only Shuckle could use Endeavor...
