Gardevoir. I have had one that had shock wave, thunderbolt, psychic and calm mind as it's moveset.

Barring that, Metagross. Not because it's a psuedo-legendary, but because it looks awesome.

I was gonna say Tyranitar, but when I think about it, I'd have to say Flygon. I mean seriously, why the fuck not?
It's a Ground/Dragon combo for starters, so it can learn such tit-rockingly awesome moves as Earthquake, Dig, Stone Edge and Rock Slide, plus it's Dragon type, giving it access to Dragon Breath, Dragon Claw and Dragon Tail, and then it can fly too, letting it use moves like Fly, not to mention (inexplicably) Solar Beam, Hyper Beam, Fire Blast, Giga Impact, Stone Edge and Strength!
All wrapped up in a bitchin' looking monster that can trantport you places, kick a whole lot of arse and it immune to all Ground Type moves, Spikes, Toxic Spikes and Arena Trap.
Look at it. LOOOK!

In my mind, it's either that, or Faraligatr, simply because Feraligatr is my favorite pokemon and she just happens to kick a whole lotta ass.

Arbok because it could hold it own vs ground and psychic types

Poliwrath because he has cuteness with a whole lot of badass

Xatu was really cool, loved the design and the worse nightmare for any fighting type

Crobat so many options to piss people off, wicked design so worth the hassle

Ninetales like Crobat many options to piss others off, the 3rd best fire type design besides Typhlosion and Charizard

Finally and the best Pokemon Beedrill. Yes Beedrill easy to train, use, master and he was able to own Lance in Red and Blue versions because of Toxic / Sword Dance / an overpowered Pin Missile *at the time* setup.

So many good choices...so many good strategies.
This will take some thought.

My knowledge only extends to the Firered Leafgreen dex so..hmm.

If he had a better movepool, probably Kingdra.
Otherwise, Dragonite/Salamence or Aerodactyl.
The former due to the amazing stats and massive movepool, the latter because he's just fucking awesome.
Among my most used non-legendaries are Breloom and Dusclops, strictly for utility.

A shotgun. Can beat any pokemon. And it's trainer too.

I'd go for charizard. He(or she)'s not perfect, but charizard is big, can fly and breath fire. It's a DRAGON. Can't get much better than that.

Edit: Also, since pokemon are like the animals of that universe, aren't humans pokemon as well? Maybe they evolved from ditto or mew or something. (Then I'd pick the guy with a shotgun. Or maybe a soldier with a mecha or tank)

I'm inclined to say Salamence or Garchomp. Both are serious powerhouses that, if you can get past their weakness to a fast Ice attack, can sweep an entire team.

I liked all the Eevees.

My team once consisted of.

Eevee, Espeon, Umbreon, Flareon, Vaporeon and Jolteon.

I thought it was pretty cool.
Its too bad Game Freak screws over Flareon each generation. Would it really hurt to give it Fire Blitz?

The inner pokemon player in me says that it is any dragon type pokemon since (A) they are only bad against other dragons (B) because they are rare to come by so chances of being defeated by another dragon type is unlikely and (C) because they are so strong and have strong moves.

BUT the inner fan in me says Typhlosion! That is one badass pokemon. Just try and tell me he doesn't look awesome!

He's like a fiery puppy a ferret combined!

I'm gonna say, this is the best thread topic I've seen on the Escapist all day!

Gyarados. It's obviously Gyarados.

Or maybe Bidoof.

I liked Gyrados. it confused me as to why it was classed a flying type though, but still, Magikarp were easy to find, and an EXP share made them easy to level up and they you could teach them the water HMs which they're were usually 3 of so then I could have earthquake which meant that rock or electricty would still have some difficulties

Yeah Flareon is always garbage, but I couldn't leave the team incomplete.
I'm guessing this was before the D/P/Pt era. And Flareon's not really use less. YOu just have to adjust your standards on how to use it. Its best physical move is Fire Fang, but works well with Fire Fang, Iron Tail, Flamethrower (for reliability)/Fire Blast (power at expense of accuracy)/Lava Plume (special, but hits two pokemon with a decent base power boosted up by STAB), and can learn Wish, which is always a good skill, especially with left overs. Plus it gets protect and has an alright Sp. Def Stat. If you odnt want the special fire, you can opt out for Toxic and set up with protect/toxic/wish + attack in a mono attack set.

Though... it got screwed again in the Dream World. It got Guts ability, which boosts its Attack stat when statused, but wihtout a strong physical fire move, the best you can do is spam STAB Fire Fang. Even its Nitro Charge (only other phys. Fire move) is weak at 50 base power. Though... you may see a lot of sets spamming a Toxic Orb (cant burn fire types) Fire Fang/Wish/Protect/(Bite/Toxic/Iron Tail/Nitro Charge). I think Game Freak hates Flareon.

And Ice types*. Even more so Ice Types.

Send in the Ice Beams.

*Though... There's an Ice/Dragon type in the Black/White game, so how that will work I have no idea.

Thought so. Most people substitute in a Leafeon now for a second Physical pokemon to make up for Flareon. Or just use him as the set up in the mono attack set I said above in a coupling with Umbreon. Jolteon's still the best physical attacker, with its Spd stat. Yep... I get to flex my mental might in this thread.

I don't give a shit about the meta-game, but I've always wanted an Arcanine.

I just... I just want to freakin' hug him.
