Master Chief from the halo series. I killed so many.... THINGS in the game.. after multiple play throughs of each game, my kills probably reached at least the population of Vancouver or something.

Counting every game in the series I've played and how many times I've played them, hands down it's Link. Countless Moblins, Bokoblins, Lizalfos, Stalfos, Skulltulas, Wolfos, Keese, Wizzrobes, Dodongos, ReDeads, Octoroks, and other beasts, great and small have fallen to his blade, bow, and massive arsenal.

I think I'll have to go with my character from the Saints Row games. I have caused so much mayhem in those games. I easily kill at least 1000 each time I play Saints Row 2.

Some people need to learn what "Single-player" and "character" means before posting.

My most kills would probably be the UED captain in Starcraft. I played the UED section of the campaign so many times... I can imagine the 6th and 8th missions and where the minerals are.

I know my GTA3 character managed a body count of 23k kills, that was with extensive tank driving sessions over many, many hours. Alex Mercer probably comes close, but I don't think he ever actually surpassed that, Dynasty Warriors 2 also had hundreds dead in every level minimum, and I played every character to the end at least once, so there's probably tens of thousands or even 100k+ dead there.

Indirect kills, probably either Kratos for ending the world, or Shepard for wiping out the Geth, the Reapers (do synthetics count?) and a whole bunch of others what with leading a war and all.

My Borderlands Siren is also pretty vicious, I think I managed to get all the "kill x enemies" achievments for each enemy type, so that's a good 20k or so.

I wonder how many game deaths I have caused over the entirey ofy life...

Could be either of my Shepards from Mass Effect series (since there are 3 games). But then Fluffy from Fallout 3 killed everyone in Megaton (pre-nuke), did all the DLC and killed the others from the Mothership, and everyone in Point Lookout, and Arefu... well, I ate most people across the map. As did my one from NV. Though I think my characte in GUN gets close: he killed 13 times as many good people as he did bad, yet was the 'good-guy'... Honorable mention to one of my FM games where I beat Liverpool 9-0 on the last day of the season and they got relegated (thinking suicides in the unseen...)

yeah mine too, and it doesn't help that 98% of humans and 99% of the wildlife are trying to murder you on sight.

Considering how one ***** slap from Alex Mercer is enough to make any standard humanoid NPC in Prototype fall over dead, and the sheer volume of plasticine people you can run over with a tank in a under minute, he is the most logical answer for anyone who has played Prototype for any length of time exceeding 2 weeks. Also, whenever you level a hive in an infected zone, all the trash zombies immediately die and are attributed to your kill stats. So yeah...
