Death from Discworld
we could maybe go for a decent curry before "the duty" :)
at least he would be quite sympathetic.
Seriously... Is there even another option!?

It warms my heart to see so many choose the Death of the Discworld. Terry Pratchett is one of my most favorite authors and it steams me when people say they've never heard of him. "Reaper Man" is the book that inspired me to become a writer myself- http://deathbydawn.com/
But I wouldn't mind being fetched away by Shinigami-Sama from Soul Eater. He's such a compassionate character for being an incarnation of Death. I like a god with a sense of humor. ;]

Either Grim from Billy and Mandy, or the one from Bill and Ted, or Lord Death from Soul Eater.

In most cultures there's a personification of Death. The most well known in the west to be the Grim Reaper, a man in a black robe with a scyth to reap his harvest of souls for the afterlife.

Then there's the Greek Hadies, lord of thier underworld.

And these are just the two that come to my mind! Seeing as my knowledge on the persona of Death in various cultures is limited, a poll will have to wait.

So tell me Escapists, which version of death would you like to come take your soul when you finally pass on? Is it one you find interesting? Perhaps it's the one your religion teaches you about. Or maybe a portrayal from a popular (or largely unknown) book/movie/play/storytelling medium?
Hades really wasn't the personification of Death. Greek mythology really didn't have a reaper or someone who assisted the dying to guide them to their afterlife destination. That was part of the funeral ceremony, the placing of two copper coins on the eyes was to pay for the ferry toll to the gate of the Underworld. Hades was just a god that ruled it and had a cool dog.

OT: Death as seen in CTRL ALT DEL comics, nothing like adding some serious sarcasm to your own end.

I'd challenge him to a game. and then i would win. i would enjoy another chance to live.

but, as gandalf said, death is just the beginning of another great journey.

Definitely Death of the Endless (ie Death from the Sandman comics).

I thought of her even before Death from Discworld, much as I do love the Discworld anthropomorphic personification. Although if his granddaughter was filling in again, Susan might run a close-ish second to Death of the Endless.

Your father from Fallout 3, or just plain Liam Neeson. Who wouldn't love to be taken to there eternal spiritual resting place by Liam Neeson?

Captcha: Bollts Imcl. I google imaged that and this was the first result: [img src:http://www.timeframeinvestor.com/articles/images/IMCL12dec2001.gif]

Since Discworld and Valkyries have already been taken, I'd say Manny from Grim Fandango, because he's a cool guy, or Death from the Seventh Seal if I practice my chess.

Discworld's death, although a horde of Valkyries seems like a pretty good back up plan. :p

I've yet to see this interpretation of death, but personally, I've always liked the idea of a man with an affable face, a nice, respectable suit, and an overall amiable personality coming to greet you and send you to your eternal rest.
That's just always been an appealing interpretation to me, you know? It's calming and nice to know that Death has learned to accept its niche, and comes without judgement.

I don't care which one it is, so long as I can gamble with him over weather he will take me away or let me go. Hooray for trying to cheat death!
Extremely appropriate given your avatar and the awesome episodes that pertained to this very topic.

OT: Probably the On a Pale Horse version, that way maybe I'll get lucky and kill him first and assume the office.

Manny Calvera, from Grim Fandango. He can sell me some cool real estate, or at least a great spot on the ferry to the afterlife.

Hospitals. I've had the good fortune of not having to undergo any kind of serious operation yet (just for checkups and maybe a few stitches), but just visiting someone is a huge strain on my emotions. The feeling of being confined to a bed and drugged out of my mind makes me think the person I'm with is as close to dying as they can get.

Thanatos is the Greek god of Death, and his brother is Morpheus the god of dreams. :)

I'm pretty sure Thanatos and Morpheus were daemons, not true Olympian gods. I just thought I'd put that out there.

Indeed. Out of ALL the personifications of Death we hear about, she's at least a decent conversationalist and NICE to people.
