Realistically, I couldn't eat what is basically a sentient creature.

However, I'm partial to seafood and shellfish so pretty much all the water Pokémon. Krabby? Kingler?

Funny I'm playing through Snake Eater, so I'm just imagining Ash turning to his pokedex.

Pokedex: Ponyta, the firehorse pokemon.
Ash: Yeah but... How does it taste?
Pokedex: You're seriously going to eat one?
Ash: Why else would I be asking?
Pokedex: Well the guide says they're pretty good.

EDIT: Ninja'd on the second reply, what are the odds.

Apparently Magicarp makes a decent meal. Even better, it's the Pokemon with the least personality, so no qualms about eating it.

I don't get the people who say the anime should be disregarded. Yeah I know it sucks but it's still canon, that's what the games are based on, let's all collectively deal with it.
It's inconsistent.... cause at some point, when they were stranded on the ship Meowth gets fed up with hunger and tries to eat it only to find out it's just scale and bone. That's when James gets fed up, it can't swim and it can't be eaten, so he kicks it into the water. Thing evolves into garyados.

Take a bunch of plant pokeymanz, put 'em in a shredder, and enjoy a delicious murder salad.

I wonder if there's a dressing Pokémon.

Are you a vegetarian/vegan, then? Because most of our food animals (maybe all, don't care to think about it too long) qualify as 'sentient.' Real world.

Depends. If I eat a Mew or Mewtwo, do I gain it's power?

Taurus would be my pick seeing as he would make a delicious steak.

I believe this is the first time I've laughed out loud simply by the thread title. I don't know the first thing about Pokemon, but congrats OP, congrats.

Seriously, if you can prove me wrong do it.

But I don't know of any cow/pig/fish/whatever that can reconigze it's own reflection

and I go with that to be the sign of sentience.

Miltank, Tauros and the Tepig family for red meat.
While I too love me a good steak or burger from the more bovine-like pokemon, wouldn't Tepig be "The Other White Meat?"
Just sayin'. :p

I should start by saying the only Pokemon I know by heart are the original 151, so here goes.

I would start off with Dratini, smoked and sliced thin and laid on top of a delicious sushi roll. Dratini unagi sushi.

I would follow that with a delicate course of Farfetch'd served with plum sauce and a tiny dish of sweet rice.

I would then have a soup made of Slowpoke tail boiled for hours and hours with a side salad of Victreebel dressed with raspberry vinegarette.

My main course would be Mew, cooked rotisserie style.

Dessert would be a pudding made with the eggs from an Exeggcute and a mousse made from Chansey (it looks very easy to whip up into a fluffy dessert).

A delicious old school Pokemon feast.

I've eaten Crocodile before and its absolutely amazing so I'd love me some Krookodile.

Pretty self explanatory, its literally an ice cream.

Whats better than venison? Legendary venison.

Well, you're free to have your own definitions of words. But when you use them in a public context, be aware that people are going to take it as it is actually defined. The mirror test is for self-awareness, not sentience A9nd even then, it's debatable). Besides, by that logic, babies aren't sentient until about 18 months to two years.

I'm also curious as to which Pokémon have actually passed the mirror test.

Self-awareness isn't sentience? o_O

And anyway, in the anime they're basically alive. They talk to each other. They plan ahead.

I'm a vegetarian, so...

I'll just whip me up a Leafeon and tofu stir fry, maybe with some teriyaki sauce, and a Tropius banana on the side.

Not within the constraints of solely self-recognition. I have a feeling you're nitpicking now.

So pack animals are sentient, then? Even the ones that can't pass the mirror test?

I'm avoiding ones that have already been done..... Combusken legs would be fucking delicious though!

3:

Giant coconut-eggs would definitely make a good ingredient for so many recipes

2:

It's a cherry which is a little over a foot in diameter! I bet it's juicy to!

1:

It can literally taste like anything! ANYTHING! Keep it in an airtight container for a few days to kill it, serve it in a bowl with some whipped cream
