I prefer to be some variant of Assassin(also acting as a scout when needed), not out of a fondness for back-stabbing and stealthing about, but because It keeps me from being Back-stabbed(mostly) and I can check out a situation before i get mixed up in it.

To explain it with a sentence:
"The best way to avoid being snuck-up on is to do the sneaking."

The Paladin.

That isn't saying that I'm a religious fanatic, but instead that I like to think of myself as an honorable warrior who fights with his beliefs, regardless of what they may be, against that which is deemed evil. A Jedi with a longsword and plate armor, as I like to call them.

Definitely a thief. I prefer quick attacks to the weak spot as opposed to huge, lumbering strikes with a comically large weapon. And, personality wise, I steal from those who have too much to begin with, because I profit and they hardly lose anything. I'm not willing to pay for their products, and they don't need my money. At this point, I look at buying things as a charity. I COULD get whatever product for free one way or another, but instead I choose to give money to the company to support their cause. That is, if I like the product enough to buy it. If I only like it enough to have it lying around, so be it. I'll take it... Am I going to prison?

I usually prefer caster roles. Especially casters with summons and DPS. I love dealing with problems through effort applied over a constant period of time and by keeping at arm's length. Nukes aren't really my thing but I prefer it over being a non-caster. Caster roles appeal to my whole "knowledge is power" philosophy. Nukes appeal somewhat to me in that I also like it when I can get rid of problems with one simple WHOOMPF. There's something elegant in that simplicity.

The Hybrid Class suits me best. I prefer utility and survivability over a kamakaze damage style. In WoW I played a druid, and that was the ideal class for me.

I'm a paladin. Always.

Because they are Clearly the best class evar when played correctly. Full Plate, insane amounts of health, healing, invulnerability, their avenger talents, the list goes on.

And also they are they easiest for me to RP, as they fit my natural inclination for Neutral Good (Rules Schmooles)

I recommend you define the archetypes MightyMoose.

On an unrelated note I recommend you make me a sandwich.
Typical Archetypes are;

Healer, Tank, Melee Damage Dealer, Ranged Damage Dealer magic/physical, Hybrid (Hybrids can include any combination of the former)

And also; No.

Necromancer in every game I have ever played. Why? I like the idea of turning someone's friend's dead body against them in battle.

I like to imagine the look on my opponent's faces as their dead best friend comes back to life and begins attacking them.
I smile, raise my holy hammer, and smite that fucker to dust for dying. Then I say "I've been waiting to do that for years." and swear about him owing me some gold for some thing or another.

I've never been one to be first at anything. I'm much more of an observer and prefer to stay out of the action watching how things work. As such I like to make sure there's action to watch. So in MMO's I lean toward supportive rolls, like Priests to keep our guys in the fight. In FPS' I prefer defensive classes like the generic sniper or something more specific like the TF2 engineers. In single-player stuff like Morrowind where I can't rely on others to keep the enemy away from my squishy body I lean toward stealth classes.

This isn't to say I don't deviate. I'm going to play a Chaos Chosen (tank) in Warhammer Online. That's mostly because I've always loved the big hulking guys in armour that smirk at the people who only manage to put scratches in their armour.

Hey me I'm always a offensive close combat, speedy, dodgy, slaughter kinda guy who is terribly unbalanced, being that my defense would not protect me from a breath of fresh air, yep that's me just like I am in real life

I always have to be the warrior or melee type of guy, with a touch of magic, preferably healing, if the game so allows. The kind of person that's up in your face, hacking away at you with a sword or mace and doing considerable damage, while still having the most health and armor of people, giving good survivability... The healing magics just a bonus if possible, since I can toss one to a friend if they're in trouble or use it to save my on ass.

I'll always try to protect my allies and friends to the best of my ability, which is another reason why I like the melee class... cause monsters tend to beat up whats right in front of them first, heh.

But that's been a mainstay of mine through most any RPG ever, and probably will continue to be so. So it's no wonder that during my time in WoW I wound up as a Warrior... and a Fury Warrior to boot. I will always dual wield with my melee character if at all possible, it's just far more fun than using a sword and board or a big cumbersome and slow 2 hander. For me at least, but all that sums up my characteristics in RL too so, hey, it works for me.

i prefer to snipe. usually from incongruous situations, like unscoped, or from a tree i jumped off a building into. or in EVE, i use railguns (long range) on ships normally intended for blasters (really short range) just so those smug caldari NPCs get relativistic-speed death from ranges at which they should normally be safe

alternately, in fantasy, i play a warrior or paladin. 'i hit it, it hits me, i hit it, it dies' style-gameplay.

I've played a little of everything, but I love being a mage. There's just something awesomely arrogant about turning your opponent into a newt or burning them to a crisp, while wearing armor that couldn't stop a stray pebble from knocking you down. Stylish outfits and ultimate power using just your mind... yeah, mage is awesome.

I have a thing for rogues too, but they're often a little boring in MMO's, being more of a high-damage low-defense warrior than an actual thief.

I'm probably the healer. Though occasionally I'll go back through things as a caster. But every great once in a while I get this twinge of a need to try something different and I try smashing my way through things...doesn't always please, but it sure is a good archetype to get rid of some stress.

I need to feel like I'm a) causing damage and b) learning or getting better. The perfect class for me was the Diablo II Assassin, because each attack was part of a little customisable combo that built up over several moves and then had a payoff: extra damage or healing or a combination of the two. There was enough to keep your mind busy, unlike the Barbarian or the Paladin, but you were still a devastating war machine, unlike all the other classes (IMO).

I normally hybrid rogue/barbarian, thats not to say I'm massively ripped, but I pretty much get over any illness or food poisoning in a matter of hours, I'm also a sneaky git and my friends assume I'm an imposter if I approach them visibly, instead of suddenly being behind them when they turn around, in an open field, in the day time, with no one else around....
