In my opinion ratchet and clank is perfect...
I've loved every single game.
It has the perfect mix of graphics, fun, awesome weapons and story!
I'm still pissed at the one Ratchet and Clank for making my awesome volcano gun into a terrible molten rock launcher. I think it was Going Commando that did that...
I may not have been part of that series, but I feel your pain... that's how I felt when I played Halo 2 to discover my beloved pistol-o'-doom had been nerfed into a token lump at my side... I had fond memories of taking on whole swarms of Flood with that thing.

Oh my... how I wish I could agree with you. You do make a good point though, aside from those god-awful new Pokemon they release, the games are basically the exact same story over and over with a load of new dudes put in.

...

I think you've picked a proper-champ right there! I may not like it one bit, but you're absolutely right. Any objections?

No game has achieved perfection. There will always be great games, but never a perfect one.

The closest a game could achieve perfection is if it could make an experience thats fun and intuitive to the point you could ignore any faults it presents. Although thats hardly a perfect game then.
It's not so much an individually perfect game we're after - more a series of games that hasn't changed at all in any significant way from game to game because they're just making more of what their fans want.

You're right of course - but what d'you have to say to the actual question being posed here, about which companies are basically making the Exact same product over and over without any real complaints from their fans?

In my opinion, The Void is perfect, even with it's insane difficulty!
And weirdly enough I consider Silent Hill 2 to be near perfect.

I totally agree with you on Assassin's Creed - they're brilliant games... And the Prince of Persia series is certainly splendid too -

But they can't really be said to just be the same game with graphical upgrades. Elements of game-play were heavily changed in some of them, Prince of Persia for example went through some rather hectic changes - brilliant though the series is.

Assassin's Creed even altered quite a few elements of its game-play for the second go - not that this is bad mind you! But they haven't yet reached the point where they're releasing the same game over and over again with a different skirt, and not upsetting their fan-base one jot!
I agree wholeheartedly. The really great thing about it is that Ubisoft really could have gotten away with simply reskinning Assassin's Creed 1 with a Renaissance Italian setting and a different story. Instead they chose to improve it into the masterpiece that is Assassin's Creed 2. Not to say, though, that the first game wasn't fantastic in its own right.

Damn, ninja'd. I'm inclined to agree. No matter how much extra crap that the series has added along the way, the bare-bones mechanics always remain the same. And fans would flip out if they DID change anything. THAT'S a sign of timeless design.

2-D Mario games also deserve a mention.

What do you mean weird? Silent Hill 2 is one the most intelligent, perfect games created. That fact is not disputed.

On topic, the MGS series. Need I say more? Although it doesn't fit in to the thread's theme, MGS is my perfect series, as instead of offering the same experience over and over, it moulds and shapes itself as it goes along. I'll insert my regular rant here:
Without a single down, the MGS series. They are each masterpieces, each divulging into different, interesting subjects such as memes, genes, scene, the illuminati plot, gene manipulation, the violence of warfare, the irrelevance of enemies, and the morality of warfare, to name I few I spotted. Each character has a past, hobbies, ideals; all of these things make me genuinely interested in them, and genuinely saddened if they die. The gameplay itself is fun, intuitive and free. Various strategies can be used, and using the various items is easy, and quick. The Codec provides the most interesting system I have seen so far in a game, allowing for a hints system as well as a means to know more about the plot, various characters, items, weapons, and current objective. There is no need for a compass, an objective screen, and other such things. Just the player, the pause menu, and the Codec. All of this is without mentioning the perfect timing of the various jokes and puns, and the pure devastating emotions blows the series inflicts upon you.
People that say that the series is boring, and that cutscenes are long, miss the point of the entire Saga completely. I dare anyone who has played all 4, (not 6, don't worry) games, to respond, and tell me they didn't cry, or come very close to at any point during the series.

Oh man... Silent Hill 2... *shudders*

I still get a little neck spasm whenever I hear that name.

Having said that, those games are Oh so different... Which means they sadly can't qualify for this list.

But what the dickens is the Void?

And props to them for it! I loved that game So much (and very much appreciated their 'oh-so-subtle' Mario reference) - but I won't consider it to have attained personal-perfection till they've released Assassin's Creed 4 - where it's the Exact same thing and nobody cares one jot!

Y'know, on the topic of 2-D Mario games... I would've put Paper Mario on the top of my list if it hadn't have been for them switching to a more real-time style of game-play. Thousand Year Door was a beautiful thing to behold and had me hooked to my TV for many parentally-infuriating weeks when I was younger.

I will respond to this, with the following words. Metal Gear Solid 4. Act 4. Naomi Hunter.

Given all these words you're saying are going straight over my head - does this mean you Agree or Disagree what MGS should be on this list?

Even if I game has one tiny bug where the frame rate skips for two frames, it is still not perfect.

I Anti-spoilered my response so that only somebody who has played the game will understand. I agree totally. MGS4 was the perfect game of the series.

I do believe this has been firmly established at this point - but it doesn't really answer the more pressing question :p

See though? Just by saying 'it was the perfect game of the series', you've said that the rest of the series isn't nearly the same thing. If every MGS game was pretty much the same game with a new story, I'd be inclined to put it up on the list. (When I get around to making a list that is.)

They were all brilliant, and extremely similar, but with MGS4 they refined it and made it better than the rest. There is not one single thing that i would change about that game. Not one.
