Minecraft. Jeez.

They will complain about anything.

I find it rediculous that Mojang was forced to push pre-releases for a BETA.

In all probability... Postal 2 and Battle Rapers?

From personal experience, Battlefield 1942 was ruled by complete asshats a lot of the time. "Hey, that guy got to the plane before me! Shoot him down, hurr hurr!".

Halo has more than its fair share of 12-year old griefers and corpse-humpers, but not *quite* enough to make me stop playing.

Most pc gamers I've met online are elitest arseholes who will look down their noses at me just because I play console, and assume I'm some sort of squeaky-voiced self entitled racist just because I'm 15 and play COD once in a while. I actually heard one using the phrase "Glorious, golden pc gaming master race" unironically.

TF2

You have to be pretty fanboyish to be still playing a game that old and the fans come off a bit creepy as well.
I don't understand how someone has to be a fanboy to enjoy playing an old game? Not everybody likes the latest games, and certain older games may have a greater appeal for them.
Its a basic classed based shooter of which dozens of games have improved the formula over the years yet the fans cling to it because its made by valve.
The flaw with your argument is that TF2's playerbase has increased by 500% since it went F2P just over 4 months ago. Are all those players valve fanboys clinging to an inferior game? Yeah, sure they are.

Starcraft. At least that's where most of the online assholes I've encountered come from.
Well...in random matches yeah. I play with friends I don't think I've gotten more than two words out of the enemy team half the time, and usually then it's glhf or gg and those aren't even words.

League of Legends on the other hand, if you step one foot out of line, you will get yelled at with such anger and profanity laden ire you'd swear you were in an actual warzone with lives on the line. :/

Zelda fags. Seriously...I once said something along the lines of never played a certain Zelda game. It wasn't people going "Lol, loser.". There were some pure and nasty downright insults. I was all "wtf? I'm a raging **** because I never played a video game? Go fuck yourself with a knife and die!"

Hence why I tend to stay away from any thread on here that looks like fanboys might inhabit it, and almost every other website where they might reside.

Do you know of a video game franchise that has a pleasant fanbase? Or do you know of anything that has a pleasant fanbase for that matter?
Mechwarrior/Battletech and Jagged Alliance have some of the nicest fanbases I've met on forums, but Tachyon: The Fringe had probably the most pleasant in-game players I've had the wonderful experience of gaming with. Players actually went out of their way to set up new-player servers to get them accustomed to the game and creating a player-controlled coaching system so that the gap between a new player and a veteran was much smaller than most games I've played. Of course the game is mostly dead at this point, but a few fan-made patches and organized schedules later, there are still some pick-up games going on almost every Sunday at 2p-3p EST. :)

Of course, these are just my personal experiences and may not reflect the whole.

On topic...The worst fanbase I've dealt with is actually NOT Quake/UT/DotA/HoN/LoL/BLC/CoD/BF...

It's Legions: Overdrive.

Basically, the level-headed folks who played Starsiege: Tribes either still play it with mods, or moved on to Tribes 2, or Tribes Vengeance, or more recently, Tribes:Ascend...The people who got angry every single time they lost started playing a "spiritual successor" called Legions: Overdrive.

Imagine if you took the players from Tribes 1 who were never quite in the right mental space to compete with the professionals (who are actually very nice people) and put them in one place. Basically, you have every stereotypical ego that can exist in a CTF game - people who think they're the greatest because of their fast flag cap, people who think they're the greatest because of a base defend, people who blame you for not covering the middle of the map, players begging you to disconnect and uninstall while they llama grab the flag and give the game away by yelling at you instead of playing, etc...

It's funny on some level, hilarious if you think about how mad someone got for practically no reason, but on another level, very very sad, because when you frag that kid, his life shatters and he slams his headset down because the game is the most important thing to him. It was quite unfortunate.

That said, I have to include Diablo as a honorable runner up. It was the first online game I played where people would do anything they could to scam you with drop trades and such, PK you in town, hostile you and take a town portal to kill you, open portals in the middle of monsters, say it's safe, then when someone walks in they instantly die and the killer grabs all their items, etc... It was, again, hilarious, but also quite terrible.

The League of Legends crowd pisses me off, as with the constant bitching about everyone else.

But in the overall point, many game fans that annoy me are devout in their adoration of their game and such that it loses the entertainment.
'Tis a game, have fun, YOU IMBECILES

I have nothing bad to say about the Kirby fandom.

I understand the question is which fanbase is bad, but as many people above have said, the true question is which fanbase is good.

Truthfully, one game series where the fanboys are decently serene is the Hitman series.

Since it doesn't have multiplayer, it doesn't get a whole lot of assholes who never shut up or those who are elitist and laugh when someone doesn't know all the commands and strategies of the game.

The main reason why I've never heard of annoying fans is maybe because the series as a whole isn't popular in Canada (I think it's most popular in Europe). Either that, or they are all out of High School, which if we all followed the ESRP ratings, THAT SHOULD BE THE CASE
(That was a hit against 12 year olds playing "mature" games)

I never really was part of a the Mechwarrior/Battletech community in any kind of significant way, even though I'm a huge fan of the series and mythos. Still, the few community groups I was a part of, for a short time, were extremely friendly, pleasant, and utterly enjoyable. There was a sense of comradery and sharing in personal opinions and experiences, regardless of preferences or topic. No ever really "hated" someone for enjoying any specific game series. There were still a few "haters" and general ne'er-do-wells, but overall the community was nice. I do so miss the games and lore. I sincerely hope MWO comes to fruition and is as good as promised.

All I can say is I'll believe that when I see it. I mean that doesn't just defy typical fan behavior, that also defies the Internet F*wad Theory.

Well they are among the quietest, so they do have that going for them.

Call of Duty, Team Fortress 2, Halo, Battlefield, Minecraft, The Elder Scrolls...

But I think My Little Pony kills all of them combined, yet it isn't a game...
