I'm in the middle of a link between worlds and thought I should line up another ready because I'm really enjoying it. Which Zelda should I do next and why?

I've already played...

Ocarina - good game, but I don't think it's the best game ever made, like some people seem to think
Majora's mask - better than ocarina I thought, a lot of fun.
Link to the past - awesome, but I played it too many times when I was younger so I'm bored of it.
Original - was good at the time
Link Between Worlds - my fav at the moment

Think that's it.

I only own a new 3DS and Wii from Nintendo so that rules a load out (so no BoTW). Any suggestions as to which one to try next?

Link's Awakening DX. It should be on the 3DS virtual console.

Its my favorite 2D Zelda game. Its also full of Mario characters repurposed. (Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Chomp-Chomp, Wart, etc)

Link's Awakening is a good shout - also on the 3DS store are the two Oracle games, Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons and both of those are pretty great as well.

Not sure what else is available to you on your consoles. If Minish Cap is on the store, get that, it's fantastic and criminally underrated/forgotten in my opinion. Not sure if Wii is backwards-compatible with GameCube games but if it is then try and find a copy of Wind Waker. The updated WiiU version is better but the original is still phenomenal.

Is skyward sword any good or one of the weaker entries in the series?

No idea I'm afraid, never played it. For what it's worth as far as I can tell reception to it is kind of mixed? But yeah, no idea. Chances are it's alright though, it is a Zelda game after all.

yes you can put a GameCube disk in you wii console, but you need to own the firsts batch of Wii, i think they droped the GameCube compatibility later on. But you also need a game cube controler. there's should be controller ports on the wii for that. So you can buy a used GameCube controller, and try to get Wind Waker, which is also a very solid title in the franchise

Damn, people have already suggested Link's Awakening. Fuck me, that ending.

Anyways, Skyward Sword is fine .... ish? First time they made Zelda (as in the character) fun. You get to effectively see the birth of the Master Sword (ish) ... has a really interesting take on Hyrule in the distant past. But in terms of gameplay it feels kind of off ... and in termsof the usual polish Zelda games get, it's the only one I've played that you can actively bork your game.

As in break it beyond the capacity to salvage.

Which might undo hours of progress.

Usually I won't bring this up in any other game, but in a Zelda title it's literally comes out of the blue for me.

I'll put a shout out to Twilight Princess if only for Midna. The WiiU remake is great.

Someone's already said Windwaker...

Shucks, I wanted to recommend Link's Awakening as well...

Well, if you want more 2D Zelda after Link's Awakening, the GBC and GBA games are worth a mention. Oracle of Seasons and Oracle of Ages are available on the 3DS. The Minish Cap was made available to early 3DS owners through the ambassador programm, but you can't buy it in the eShop, cuz... Nintendo? I dunno.

It just means that the right answer is Link's Awakening :p

My pick goes to Skyward Sword. Better than Twilight Princess imo.

Also A Link Between Worlds was fantastic. I wish they would make a sequel on the 3DS.
Also don't forget Okami which is similiar to Zelda games.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I would suggest Twilight Princess. Its one of the higher entries for me, its got some rather standard elements and dungeons but then some also really awesome elements and dungeons, like the one that takes place in a mansion up on a mountain. Plus it has Midna, who is probably my favorite Zelda character.

I would suggest any of the Game Boy Zeldas (Link's Awakening, Oracle of Ages/Seasons). I also liked Spirit Tracks, but that may be my affinity for trains talking. Only try it if you don't mind motion controls, as they are used for everything.

Twilight Princess or The Wind Waker if you want something non-portable.

Link's Awakening, Oracle of Ages/Seasons and Minish Cap.

Don't bother with Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. Never play Skyward Sword.

Twilight Princess. It's the better one of the two I've played. (The other one was Skyward Sword. Which was OK I guess, lots of going back to the same areas.)

Looks like the consensus is link's awakening for handheld and Twilight Princess for console, with a few shouts for wind waker too.

You seem to be in the minority - why do you think it's better? (I've not played either so I have no idea).

If you like 2D Zelda, I'd reccomend The Minish Cap. If you like 3D Zelda, I'd reccomend Wind Waker and Twilight Princess (like WW more, TP takes the close second though).

when you play it and you meet the character Fi you'll know exactly why Skyward Sword sucks. i have no idea why he thinks it's better than TP.

Collecting the spirit balls or what its called in TP was annoying to me. And i liked the Village in the Sky in Skyward Sword.
It's just my opinion which is better although they may be on a same level when i think about it. I like the colorful graphics better than in TP though. Let's be honest, it's not that TP is THAT much better than Skyward Sword.
