This is a digression - and I mean you no offense by arguing the point - but this is really a fascinating discussion. A lot more interesting than the OP.

Being as he is named Mario and being from Brooklyn, NY, we'd assume that he is either the first-generation descendant of Italian immigrants, or an Italian immigrant himself. Certainly, when he talks, he speaks in a heavy, stereotyped Italian accent, and uses Italianisms ("Mama mia!").

The term "white," to me, is uniquely American. It does not apply to Europeans who see themselves through the lens of culture. It applies only to American mongrels who have nearly no culture at all.

I firmly believe that Americans are the most racist people in the world (with perhaps one exception beyond the scope of this thread), because they see every difference between groups through the lens of race.

No - culture, not race, is what makes Mario what he is. That Mario is white-skinned is no more significant comparing him to Max Payne than Lei Fang being Asian is comparing her to Oda Nobunga. Mario is an Italian, not a white guy.

I think there have been some portrayals of Mario with brownish hair. But his mustache is almost always black - a quick Google shows this - and Italians in general have dark hair.

...i find it funny how you are calling americans racists when Europeans (especially British and French, and i say this with the utmost respect for the British people) are openly racist and are proud of it. Or countries that have at MOST two distinct groups in terms of culture, race, or religion and cant get along at all whereas USA has EVERY single race, culture, religion, and idealogy under the sun in one country and we more or less get along (tolerate might be a more accurate term).

even the Japanese are more racist than Americans, although i will give them a pass because they rarely interact with foreigners whereas it is impossible for me to go an entire day without seeing people of every race.

No it's not, 'mongrel' typically applies to dogs so calling a group of people mongrels is just being offensive. It's like calling someone a half-breed.

Because it is offensive. What you said is a bit like saying 'well, ****** is a word derived from a word for 'black,' so it makes sense to call black people ******.' It doesn't matter what the word specifically means, if it has racist connotations then you shouldn't say it to people.

I think the thing is that english people enjoy ribbing each other. It's pretty much a national past time. I've said some pretty racist things to my friends of varying nationalities, but only in jest... so yeah, don't think that english people are racist. This is a country where referring to your friend as 'that **** over there' is perfectly ordinary. People think you're odd if you don't insult them occasionally.

Missed the tend, it's sort of ignored now a days because it's used as a cop out for sweeping generalizations. Anyway Americans are the best when they depreciate because of how right they are, when others do it it feels like fishing for compliments.

Mixed-race people (such as myself) get really annoyed when the term "mongrel" is applied to humans. Just a heads up.

Why?

Because "mongrel" is a term that refers to (non-human) animals and occasionally plants. Using it to refer to people is therefore inherently dehumanizing.

And because it is a dehumanizing term applied to people specifically because of their racial background, calling people mongrels is also racist.
