I know first hand how fucking hard it is for a white male to get a scholarship. I come from a low-mid income family and graduated with fairly decent grades (overall 3.5 GPA) and I still couldn't even get one. Personally I think affirmative action in any case is sort of like trying to prevent possible discrimination by directly mandating discrimination, but I suppose if everybody has it things do kind of even things out a bit.

I see nothing wrong with this. When I took my SATs, I said I was Hispanic and wanted to enter the priesthood, just to see if it affected the amount of scholarships offered. It was pretty ridiculous, but nothing compared to my buddy, who said he was an Inuit.

I think if everybody does this it'll really gum up their works. And it's not like you can get in trouble, because they really shouldn't be asking in the first place.

White History Month: Doesn't exist because it would be considered "racist". Or you can go with the excuse I love to hear. "Every month is white history month!" that is just as racist and side steps the issue.

There is a lot of reverse racism so I am glad to hear there is at least some program out there that works against it.

Not to be rude, or come off like I hate my own race, but the reason you don't see "White Entertainment Television" is because every other channel is that.

I mean, not trying to make a big deal of it, but aside from niche, "obviously designed for minority audiences" TV shows, how many shows out of the total shows on TV feature 90% white people? Or 100% white people? How many shows that feature minorities do so in obnoxious, grating and Michael Bay/Jar Jar-esque ways?

I don't see how pointing out that white people continue to have it pretty good even today is "sidestepping" any issues. I'm willing to admit college scholarship organizations can be totally unfair to middle class white boys who can't afford college (me), but it's absolutely true that almost everything about our society's culture, values, religion... Most of it came from white people in other countries, who learned it from white people in other, OTHER countries. Sure, in Greece and Rome some of them were less pale, but they weren't much less white. The whole concept of western culture came mostly from white people (and Egyptians). Not that that's BAD, but we can't act like it hasn't permeated every facet of culture to the extent we probably aren't aware of it much of the time.

This isn't your fault or my fault, at least not directly. But when it comes to movies, TV, video games and books, I am 100% with the "minority" groups that not enough black people, Asians or whatever are portrayed as real people. Part of what made The Wire so awesome was the realistic portrayal of black and different ethnic groups as collections of real people and not mass stereotypes. Stringer Bell and Omar aren't just the "black gangbanger dudes," they're characters remarkably free of cliche.

Of course black people can be racist. Anyone can be racist against anyone else-the only requirement is to hate somebody based on their race/ethnicity. But just as we wouldn't want black people to hold us responsible for things we haven't done, we can't use "reverse racism" as an excuse to overlook the areas in society where we still aren't doing our best to treat everyone as equally as they deserve. In other words, check out the prison population, yo.

You bring up some good points but I have to respectfully disagree. I won't preach or try to argue, just point out some more points, because we all believe what we believe and have our own unique views of the situation. But from what I have witnessed personally, not from media etc, even if I were to make a white catered television station in a country with a majority black, asian, hispanic etc then that would still be considered racist by most people who still label it as racist over here. Not to mention I do not see how if everything is considered "white" catered television over here why anyone would have a problem with a station called WET because it is just another white station and by that logic should just be viewed as another station. It is still in my opinion a form of racism to say that "everything" else is "considered" yours so you can't have something "specifically" yours.

I also have comments about stereotypes but once you start to talk about them, someone has to turn it around to paint you as a racist. So I would actually like to talk to you about that in a pm if you are interested, for i fear it might start a flame war otherwise, and get your opinion on them.

It's as stupid and racist as any other AA program for any other race. Skin colour is a wholly irrelevant parameter for education or economic need.

But since this is a private group, then I suppose they can do with their money as they please. And with the payout of 500 $ being largely symbolic, it seem more like a criticism/mockery of AA in general, which I'm certainly on board with.

A new Texas non-profit has announced its intention to provide scholarships for one group they feel has been left out of college scholarship programs ? white men.

The Former Majority Association for Equality will grant $500 dollar scholarships to any male Texas resident who can prove he is at least 25% Caucasian, has a 3.0 or higher, and can demonstrate both financial need and a commitment to education.

The group was named because of the idea that ?if you?re not male, and you?re not white, you?re called a minority,? Colby Bohannan, the group?s founder, told the Daily Mail. In fact, according to census numbers released earlier this month, non-Hispanic whites are no longer a majority in Texas, making up 42% of the population.

On its website, the group states that its goal is to ?assist young Americans seeking higher education who lack opportunities in similar organizations that are based upon race or gender.?

?There are scholarships offered for almost any demographic imaginable,? it says. ?In a country that proclaims equality for all, we provide monetary aid to those that have found the scholarship application process difficult because they do not fit into certain categories or any ethnic group.?

?We know that we?re going to be receiving some vicious attacks, from people claiming that we are racists, or promoting some bigotry-filled agenda,? Bohannan told Reuters on Thursday.

Despite the inevitable criticism from anti-racism groups, FMAFE maintains that it has no white supremacist agenda, nor does it tolerate anyone who does. Its website says that it was founded on one principle: ?to provide monetary aid for education to white males who need it.?

I find it perplexing that the same group of people who were crapping their pants over the unfairness of that engineering summer camp for young girls last month are largely in support of the principle of this scholarship. Maybe it's just selective outrage, but if you're opposed to scholarships for minorities, I don't see how two wrongs make a right. It's not helping us move towards a proper solution.

I want to see more scholarships not based on gender or race, but simply financial needs and academics. It's important to encourage diversity in fields that are typically dominated by a single group, but all students should be able to find tuition assistance if they need it.

People will eventually argue of the institutionalized racism component, but as someone of both Native American and European descent, I concur that this is a positive step towards actual equality. No more "other races don't have the same chance because of past history" bullshit.

Hell. Because I am one sixteenth, can prove it, have the ability to go to college for free, I refuse to do so. I earned mine through the military and will use it to the fullest benefit.

Edit: Why not get rid of these kinds of physical restrictions altogether? Make it based on what a person has done. I still wouldn't get any since I don't volunteer enough, but at least someone who deserves it, instead of the guy who only got it because he lives on a boat and has no ears.

Here we have BEE (Black Economic Empowerment) and Affirmative Action. But it doesn't work. It denies people jobs, causes often rather arbitrary job switches and leads to the best person for a job often not getting the position. It means that someone like myself, who intends to get a high degree in university, MUST go oversees to get a decent job with it, when this country needs to keep its educated. It is retardo logic.
A person should be judged solely on what they have done and achieved, and what they can do and achieve, not on race or gender.
