hmm... that kinda sounds like that crazy hippy from Dead Rising 2, the one that wanted "equalize" everyone by turning them into zombies.
Well until everyone is equal, then the act of observing someone different than you are causes a bias to occur. In theory, that would work...until everyone was killed by a random lone gunmen from Canada.

No one's ever heard of "white trash"? I don't mean that to offend, but the term wasn't coined because those white fellows were swimming in money. No one race is universally well off, and white males have the least amount of scholarships available, I'd confidently bet anything on it. This is only fair.

well I do see your point there, it rare to find anyone who is completely unbiased.

also why Canada of all places.

I have a 3.8 GPA (with over 100 college credit hours) and I can't get most of the scholarships because I'm not a minority. Doesn't my worth as a student enter into this at all? I mean, if our family wasn't poor and my mom and dad hadn't missed college, I would have gotten jack by way of scholarships.

Not that people OWE me an education, but they'll give away all kinds of money to my cousins (half-black). If you're white and middle class, but not QUITE low-income enough to qualify for stuff or rich enough to actually pay for college, you're working for your college regardless of grades.
Wow, that sounds almost exactly like my situation when I was applying for scholarships. The school itself gave me some money for my grades, and I got a single one-time payment scholarship of, I think it was $200, from my dad's workplace as the son of an employee, but that's all I was ever really qualified for that I could find. I didn't even have a chance at a Pell grant, and my family fits that exact description: not QUITE low-income enough to qualify for stuff, but not rich enough to actually pay for it. So it was a shit-load of loans for me, which I will now be screwed for the next 20 years to pay off. I'm making over $20,000/year, and still living paycheck to paycheck eating the cheapest meals I can find because of them.

And about the whole "pride" issue - racist folks like to use the accomplishments of other white people in the past to feel good about themselves. How pathetic is that? THEY (the racists) didn't make those discoveries - what right to they have to be proud of those discoveries? They can be respectful to the people who made them, but to actively take pride in something they didn't do is silly.

The same goes for every other nation out there - and it makes no sense! Just because your country won a gold medal, what does that prove? That the athlete who won that medal was good - that's all it proves. Just because you were born/live in the same geographical location doesn't mean jack-all. Their accomplishments ARE NOT YOUR accomplishments.

You only have the right to feel proud of stuff YOU DID. You can respect those who have achieved success, but it's down right wrong to use their accomplishments to feel good about yourself. Every ethnic group does this - they take pride in what their ancestors, friends, forebears and children have done. That's crap. The one who accomplishes the task has the right to feel pride in accomplishing the task. No one else does.

I extend this to my own country - Australia (used to be) fairly good at Cricket. The Australian team was strong. Why should I feel pride because they won a match? They should feel pride that they won a match, but why should anyone else? How did I contribute? How is their victory my victory? The answer is: it isn't.

We need to see individuals as individuals - athletes, scientists, artists - they are all individuals, and their achievements belong to them and their close colleagues. Not us. Especially if we were born well after their achievements. I have an English/Chinese ethnic background - and there have been numerous achievements on both sides of my "ethnicity" and my nationality. But those achievements weren't my own. I feel a great reverence to Charles Darwin, but I am not Charles Darwin - I didn't posit the theory of evolution. I feel great respect for those who build the Forbidden Palace - but I didn't build the forbidden palace. Neither did you. In fact, NO ONE alive today had ANYTHING TO DO with those achievements. Why feel pride IN SOMETHING YOU DIDN'T DO?!

Because it's EASY. It's a quick way to bolster your pride. Racists love this - the vast majority of modern day racists (everywhere, not just in America) are uneducated simpletons. You go look at the skin-heads or the KKK or the Mongolian Nazi groups (they do exist and they attack Chinese people who they feel are invading Mongolia) - invariably they are made up of the worst of the worst. Most of them are uneducated criminals who have achieved nothing of note, but they latch on to the accomplishments of those who came before. It's stupid, and it's easy. It's a way to feel pride without having to lift a finger. It's just lazy as well.

Feel pride in what YOU have done, not what others have. To do otherwise is pathetic. Feel respect for your ancestors, for those who came before, recognize their achievements and congratulate them (if they are alive) on their achievements, but their achievements belong to them and no one, NO ONE else.
You are descended from criminals, I would have the same opinion you if I was.

NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People): fights for the rights and equality of minorities.

NAAWP (National Association for the Advancement of White People): doesn't exist because it would be "racist".

BET (Black Entertainment Television): TV station with programing preferred more by Black viewers

WET (White Entertainment Television): Doesn't exist because it would be considered "racist"

Black,Asian,Women's etc History Month: Great to celebrate different histories.

White History Month: Doesn't exist because it would be considered "racist". Or you can go with the excuse I love to hear. "Every month is white history month!" that is just as racist and side steps the issue.

There is a lot of reverse racism so I am glad to hear there is at least some program out there that works against it.
Not to be rude, or come off like I hate my own race, but the reason you don't see "White Entertainment Television" is because every other channel is that.

I mean, not trying to make a big deal of it, but aside from niche, "obviously designed for minority audiences" TV shows, how many shows out of the total shows on TV feature 90% white people? Or 100% white people? How many shows that feature minorities do so in obnoxious, grating and Michael Bay/Jar Jar-esque ways?

I don't see how pointing out that white people continue to have it pretty good even today is "sidestepping" any issues. I'm willing to admit college scholarship organizations can be totally unfair to middle class white boys who can't afford college (me), but it's absolutely true that almost everything about our society's culture, values, religion... Most of it came from white people in other countries, who learned it from white people in other, OTHER countries. Sure, in Greece and Rome some of them were less pale, but they weren't much less white. The whole concept of western culture came mostly from white people (and Egyptians). Not that that's BAD, but we can't act like it hasn't permeated every facet of culture to the extent we probably aren't aware of it much of the time.

This isn't your fault or my fault, at least not directly. But when it comes to movies, TV, video games and books, I am 100% with the "minority" groups that not enough black people, Asians or whatever are portrayed as real people. Part of what made The Wire so awesome was the realistic portrayal of black and different ethnic groups as collections of real people and not mass stereotypes. Stringer Bell and Omar aren't just the "black gangbanger dudes," they're characters remarkably free of cliche.

Of course black people can be racist. Anyone can be racist against anyone else-the only requirement is to hate somebody based on their race/ethnicity. But just as we wouldn't want black people to hold us responsible for things we haven't done, we can't use "reverse racism" as an excuse to overlook the areas in society where we still aren't doing our best to treat everyone as equally as they deserve. In other words, check out the prison population, yo.

Finally. It's always annoyed me how we swapped from one type of racism to another. [It's especially bad over in my country]. Equality should mean just that. You shouldn't be judged on skin colour at all, to be judged on your ethnicity is inherently racist. Over here, you have specific ethnic-only scholarships and can also apply for all other scholarships and also get a financial backing from the government without restriction. That means they don't have to step one foot inside of the grounds but will still get government funding. "Whites" have access to general scholarships and must pass 50% of courses. [This isn't hard in the least and I'm not complaining but I find it racist that the rules are different based on ethnicity].

I haven't filled in all details nor go into depth as it's still a touchy subject due to recent events and I'll most likely rant.

Some times I feel overjoyed at the fact that I live in Briton. I'm pretty sure we don't have anything like that over here... I'm pretty sure something like that would be illegal over here. Though I'm no solicitor so I could be wrong. Personally, I don't think they should be any to cater to any group. It should be based primarily on your skills, not your social status and not your race.

Though I do find it a little puzzling how some here are pretty much saying "Theres plenty of rich white people so fuck the poor ones" and justifying it all as "There's not enough rich -insert minority here-" yeah... I think thats pretty racist. The fact that some are judging others simply because "Statistically most of them are rich" is pretty damn racist too.

But hey, what do I know right, I'm probably a bleeding heart idiot who should cry more because I'm part of the majority. Something that I think should go fuck it self, screw majority and minority stop judging people based on it, its just as bad as judging people based on skin colour. Its shit like this that will help racism continue.

I honestly don't care that a scholarship like this exists. If some people need to use the rhetoric of equality to make themselves feel better about their place in the world, that is just fine for them.

There is a lot of subtle racism in this rhetoric. It tries to imply that the White ethnicity is somehow a minority in this country, even though that will not happen for atleast another 30 years.

Of-course this is bad, and this is racist. Treating people differently depending on race is racism. True, the ones run by the government are wrong too, but it's simply pathetic to get back by doing the same thing you are supposedly trying to prevent.
no... racism is "a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others."

treating others different because of race is not racism unless it is done so in a malicious way or specifically saying one race is better than others ..
things like this are not inherently racist just because they target one specific race... they are not saying they are superior...they are just picking a specific group to help.. saying programs like this are racist would be like saying a Cancer foundation is prejudice against people with AIDS because they exclude them... now I'm not saying none of these race specific foundations don't have people behind them with racist motives just that something is not automatically racist because it targets a race

I honestly believe "racist" is now one of those words that is misused so much now a days it doesn't even have any meaning or impact anymore.. out of the last 100 things I've heard people call "racist" maybe 2 of them were actually using the word correctly
Ok, i used the wrong word. Treating people differently depending on race is not racism, it is racial discrimination, and this should be stopped. I never said that they were saying white people were superior, what they are doing however, is treating white people differently to other because they are white. This is wrong. Every institution which treats people differently based on race, is wrong, whether it is this one or government run ones.

The sad thing is that almost all of these projects are created with the goal to try to reduce the effects of racism, yet they only make things worse. A white male still earns the most on average compared to anyone else, people are still edgy around black people, a white person is still more likely to be hired in many situations and minorities still don't earn on average the same as a white man. The problem is that the people who see minorities getting special treatment become angry (rightly so), but they often become angry at the minorities, not the government that puts all these ridiculous rules into place. This leads to other people justifying further racial discrimination, and breeds the racism it is apparently trying to halt.

Further racial discrimination is not going to help matters, and no this white male scholarship program isn't "equalizing" things for white males, because white males are still the ones with the real lead, even in this day.

What shocks me the most is that Americans accept living in a society where you actually have to pay out of your own pocket for education in the first place.

"Cheer up kid, I know it might seem unfair to you that you are unable to obtain a higher education at this point, but look at on the bright side, people of your demographics have it better in general."

You do realize how flawed that logic is right?

So it's perfectly fine that we have black only and Asian only and Hispanic only, but the moment and white only scholarship comes along is that considered racist? Equality doesn't work if you single out a single race from a benefit. Same reason on why whites should be allowed to use the n-word. Not letting them do that is racist in itself right?
I specifically said that "the ones run by the government are wrong too". NO race should get special treatment. The people who give out scholarships shouldn't even have to know what race you are. Yes, i agree, barring white people from saying ****** is racist. Luckily where I'm from i don't hear anyone use it, and if they ever did it wouldn't be looked upon very kindly whether it came from a white or a black person.

And here I thought Hillary broke the glass ceiling and Obama finished off Affirmative Action. Silly me! To think that our country is STILL this screwed up, that you can get $50,000 if you a black american (I despise the term African American, you're either African, or you're American, pick one and stick with it) female single mother working two jobs. But if you're a white male, single, no kids, working one regular paying job, you get...$500! If you're lucky, and you live in Texas, and get approved. Seriously, in the grand scheme of college, $500 buys two months groceries and thats about it.

That's exactly my point, now try telling that to all of the people which this organization won't help on account of them not being white males. "It's too bad we can't give you a higher education, however it makes sense since white males are clearly the only people who need our help.". Yes, that logic is flawed. People should be treated equally, regardless of race, by this organization and every other. The ones run to help only minorities should be stopped. This one should be stopped. Not giving people a higher education due to their race is flawed logic, and trying to make it look like you're doing something good through this discrimination, helping the underdogs, is even worse. Especially since it simply isn't true.
