William from Call of Juarez : Bound in Blood.
Whiny sucker.

Also Kaiden from Mass Effect. He wasn't horrible, but sometimes he got on my nerves.
The choice on Virmire was easy.

Roman from GTA IV. "Heeeey, do you want to see some american tee-tees?"
No, I want to unravel your entrails.

I got quite a few to list.

Sheva Alomar from Resident Evil 5 as the most moronic ally ever. Slippy at least gives you shield info on an enemy and builds stuff. Navi at least helps you target enemies and oddities in dungeons.
Sheva....she will use the weakest weapon despite being given a rocket launcher or something, and she will heal at the most ineffective times to waste an entire first aid spray if your health falls below 70%.
The whole game is terrible for me but she is the absolute worst.

Otis Washington in Dead Rising, of course, nothing more to say on that.

The cops in Grand Theft Auto 3/Vice City/San Andreas and maybe IV which I've not played, because not only are they really irritating because of their job, they're incredibly bad at it.
What kind of cop can be bribed by public enemy no. 1 for about $300? A very stupid one.

And lastly Stinky from Fallout 3. He is only slightly less frustrating as Sheva because firstly he is not an important character and his death does not mean auto-game over, and also he will not waste stimpaks on you when you will never give him any.
However, despite being given a Magnum, he launches at radscorpions with bare fists. That is not brave, that is stupid.
Admittedly any of the accompanying Fallout 3 characters would do this, but Stinky does it as a priority.

Tales of Vesperia anyone?
You got a problem with Vesperia punk?
Yes you yellow bellah no good cur! Pistols at dawn YEEEHAW!

The name of the problem was Karol. And Rita. And Estelle. And every other god damn anime stereotype and poor voice acting that ruined the great game play mechanics.

I liked Yuri, because he wasn't a chick even though he almost looked like one. And Repede, because he had NO lines.
Stereotypes? What the fuck did you expect in a tales game? As a matter of fact, what games do you play were you aren't playing stereotypes?

And you're completely wrong with the voice acting, that's good shit right there. You know what had crappy voice acting, Oblivion. Once Patrick Stewart was gone every single person felt like talking wood.

Yuri did not look like a chick... by anime standards. And Repede did have lines, text only of course.

The two girls from Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 who wouldn't put out, no matter how much Ryu deserved it. EVERYONE FROM LITTLE LAMPLIGHT...sorry, I put so many Experimental Mirv shots into that place using god mode when I finished those quests. I know I couldn't kill them but it felt good to at least try.
You know there's a mod out there which allows you to kill them...
I know but unless their liver, eyeballs and all appendages fly off in different directions of bloody goop then its just not satisfying...

Gears of War 2 - Tai Kaliso. A seemingly pointless character who does little and adds nothing.

Halo (series) - Sergeant Johnson. Mainly because he looks and acts exactly like Sergeant Capone in Aliens.

Bioshock - Fontaine. His voice annoyed the hell out of me. His was the only voice that I didn't think worked well.

Fallout 3 - Moira Brown - Not for the usual reasons but because she is a pathological liar. There are no fumes in your shop and you are not busy so stop lying.

Admittedly they are my two favs as well. Although I don't hate any of them really.

I actually liked Carmine(s) but the reason it annoyed me, was they always get killed.
It seems stupid to add a character into the game just to kill him off without a real reason..

And GOW is supposed to emphasize team work and squad play, yet the DomBRO and MarcusBRO spend half the game making jokes about the kids dead brother, and about how he will probably die.

but this is what I get for expecting anything plot wise from GOW
The dumb thing was that Epic said they wanted a deeper story in Gears 2 and they still couldn't manage the basics. Not to say I dislike the game, but I was severely disappointed with the plot.

As for Carmines. I do not know of anything media where they don't die. I don't mean just the game ones, but in films too. I am wondering if there is some kind of inside joke about it.

Cortana from Halo 3.

I hated her random slo-mo, screen changing, confusing lines.
I liked the lines, just not the fact it made you have to stop and walk slowly, it would have been better if you 'hallucinated' her as a person in front of you or something so you could still move and play the damn game. Same goes for the grave-mind.

Enrique from Skies of Arcadia: Legends. He was worthless in combat (except for that ONE MOVE that isn't necessary anyway), annoying in cutscenes, and treated like an important character when he actually did very little except follow Vyse around.
That's why I immediately switched him out with Gilder when I had the chance. However, he and Rikku are the only characters I agree with you on. Colette and Anise, to me, were tolerable. I haven't played any of the other games yet.

With Symphonia they toned it down to an acceptable standard which made the characters likeable, Rita's bitchy crazy angry genius, Estelle's clutzy girl of destiny with a heart of candy floss and sunshine and Karol's useless boy with untappeed potential and even Raven's oldy gawdy pervert man with a mysterious past was TOO MUCH.

I can't write this any bigger without crashing the server so imagine the words TOO and MUCH in 80ft concrete letters wrapped with neon light.

And the voice acting was terrible, I've seen better voice acting in hentai. Admittedly I liked the game it had all the right things going for it. But the voice acting had not taken a step forward with everything else. JRPG's tend to have really shitty voice acting in general, even from a fan boy perspective I say that. I did however enjoy Lost Odyssey's voicing.

Symphonia's character's were way more stereotyped than Vesperia's, it still rocked though.

Dude you have problems with deciding character depth, you used four adjectives to describe Rita and still forgot; lonely, jaded, and orphaned. If you can use that many adjectives on a game character they've gotten pretty deep. Estelle... well yeah she's a plot device stereotype is her name. Karol is not useless; he heals, he hurts, got a couple ranged moves. Karol will rape if you let him loose properly. Raven doesn't seem like a pervert to me just an oddly normal guy, then you find out his past and it's like; oh, that's why you hang with these guys.

You have NOT seen better voice acting in a hentai, period. I don't care what you say hentai VAs always, always suck. And yes Lost Odyssey was bitching in every way.

Oh so I used more adjectives, therefore they have to have depth? I can think of over 50 adjectives for Chip from Sonic Unleashed, that doesn't make his character any more interesting and it certainly doesn't make it any less likely that I would set him on fire given half the chance.

You have a problem with the definition and context of the word depth. Think of a person in real life that you think is shallow. If I asked you to give me 50 words to describe them or describe them 150 words you'd easily meet that quota. And when you finally meet that quota, which you will, you're not going to suddenly go "oh I used a lot of describing words, therefore they must be an interesting person". Plus orphaned and lonely aren't words that add any depth to the character, they are just words that give the character an excuse to scream and flail their arms about. Also did you notice almost all of the main characters are orphans?

And just because Karol is useful in combat (which he isn't in the hands of an AI) doesn't make me hate him any less. Shao Kahn from Mortal Kombat is useful in combat, I'm still not going to invite him over for a deep meaningful conversation.

And Anime is full of stereotypes which is why I am very specific in which anime's I watch. Grab any character with the exception of Yuri, Repede and possibly Flynn and you can have at least 5 different characters from another anime which is almost exactly like them.

If you've seen better acting in some pornography compared to hollywood movies, than you've seen better voice acting in some animes.

Put charges in the air, I'm probably just going to leave you in the your defendng spot for days on end while I watch TV.

But could you use 50 adjectives that didn't equate to you saying the same thing in 8 different ways? I don't think I could use 150 words to describe a shallow person, I'd probably name the shallow traits an be done with it. And as for orphans, that's just how stories go, anyone of any importance is an orphan. Maybe not literally but at least in a way. Neglect/Abandoned/Died orphans are the guys who save the day.

Wait, you actually played Unleashed?! You poor poor wretch, such a fate is not deserved of mortal men.

Karol is totally useful with AI, he saves the other AI all the time, and generally fucks up any enemy aiming at me.

Everything is full of stereotypes. I could take any character from any genre and equate them with at least 5 other characters from that genre, hell probably 5 other characters from any genre.

I've never seen pornography with good VA. Or perhaps I was just too distracted by... other things.

The charges will be carried on the wind, eventually they will find you. It may take years, but your time shall come.

I actually liked Navi, mostly because OoT was my very first console game ever. The whole thing is coated in delicious nostalgia for me. I found her useful since she pointed out things for me I didn't know (like I said, first game ever, so pressing A to open doors was a REVELATION at the time.)

However... Laura from SH2 can die in a fire. I hated that *****.
