Who do you Save?

I don't see use for a biochemist without chemicals.

Defintitly #6 because I need someone I know to socialize with
#2 because she is pregnant and thus I will save an extra person without breaking rules
I would also take #1 if he was good man so that child would have good father to grow up with
Everyone would benifit from #7 since we would get access to semi-proffesional medical care
Gonna take #4 so we can have our last days on earth written professionaly
#8 so we would have someone to recreate law

If I can replace myself with one of the choices I would go with #10 so there would be a highly logical person left.

I have nothing to contribute, so I will give my life for #10 if that is possible.

The librarian and his wife are an immediate bonus... I mean, although the librarian holds no signifigance of occupation, him and his wife seem like a pair I'd like to preserve. We'd need teachers in the new world, the Historian fits the bill, and he seems like someone who good conversations would flow from. The second year medical student and biochemist are no-brainers, as is the police officer (all 3 of which could be either gender, which leaves opportunities for repopulation).

My 2 cents.

I just realized I didn't put my own opinion!

I would save:

the librarian because he basically represents human literature over the thousands of years since writing was used.

the Athlete because his strength would be reproduced.

The historian since he is the only source of Earth's history, without him all would be lost.

The Starlet since she represents the arts, and these are important to culture, and could reproduce with the Athelete for some nice babies.

The Med student since we need a physcian.

And the Rabbi since he represents religion, which I believe to be essential in a developing culture.

Not necessarily, it's all due to conditioning really. They could very well have an obese child, not to mention that we'll looking at a long time in the vault as well. He'd be dead by the time the vault opened, just like you would be. Plus he'd be a competitor for you when it comes to teh secks.

True, but I think he has the best chance for good offspring. And yeah he'd be a competitor, but you would be those peoples savior. I bet you could get some action. If not at least you helped save the human race.

I deem these as the most necessary. The librarian's wife because she is with child, the librarian because it would be horrible to separate him from his wife and child.

Realy? because if Religion was such a useless part of society, how could it have survived since the dawn of man? Ever since we could talk we have been using religion to get what we want; it inspires acts of heroism and hope, both incredibly usefull things in post apocalyptia. And you may think religion is all but dead in this day and age, easpiacly in the industrialized world with things like science and technology and big bangs, but don't kid yourself, the second shit hits the fan, people run screaming to thier gods for salvation. I honnestly think that in the hour of despair a man with the book that says "Don't worry, god has our back, nothing bad will happen" and the know how to make other believe that will be equaly as useful as the meds or the guns.

Seeing as I am trying to become a librarian myself, the male librarian has to live, because librarians are awesome. The librarian's wife, through association with the librarian, is equally awesome and must also live. The olympic male athlete has to die, because the librarian's wife might be attracted to him. He will be thrown outside the shelter, to wail and gnash his teeth. The elderly male historian seems fairly harmless. He can live. To placate the jealousy of the librarian's wife, the librarian will demand that the renowned female starlet be thrown out with the athlete, where the two will either die or make beautiful mutant babies. I've spent enough time with college co-eds to know that none of them deserve to live. Someone needs to deliver the librarian's baby (from hereon in known as Christ), so the second year medical student lives. We'll also need someone to walk around like he owns the place, so we keep the cop. The rabbi is needed to convince the librarian's wife to stay with the librarian and satisfy my (wait, no, his) every sexual need. I don't know exactly what a biochemist does, so he can die.

To sum up:

1) The librarian lives. (Librarians are awesome.)
2) The librarian's wife lives. (Librarians' wives are vicariously awesome.)
3) The athlete dies. (They steal librarians' wives.)
4) The elderly male lives. (I'm not killing grandpa.)
5) The starlet dies. (Librarians' wives are a jealous sort.)
6) The college co-ed dies. (That's for dumping me!)
7) The medical student lives. (Someone has to deliver the Christ child.)
8) The police officer lives. (Every shelter needs a resident asshole.)
9) The rabbi lives. (I really don't want to make God mad right now.)
10) The biochemist dies because of my ignorance.

In the end, it won't matter, because six people are going to do a really poor job of repopulating the Earth. And the atomically enhanced offspring of the athlete and the starlet will run rampant over the land, with nothing to stop their self-obsessed destruction but the Librarian Christ Child sent to save us all . . .

I don't know if I agree. I'm not jewish or anything, but this man represents religion as a whole; a subject of which, has been ever present in human culture since the dawn of time. Its really a question of whether or not you think religion would help shape a new human world, a question to which my answer is a most definate yes.

One thing I don't agree with is saving the librarian's wife. I mean, yeah it's a dick move to seperate the two, but don't you think each and every person on this list would be seperated from people they love? She has nothing to offer save for fertility, which can easily be found amongst the other female candidates.

Also I think the police officer is alot more important than we think. He embodies the law, and more specifically, it's enforcement. We don't want a new world in which there is no authority, no regulations to keep it's inhabitants in check.

So I'd pick non the historians. I know the US keeps it's patons and invention ideas in a huge underground vault that would be immune to a direct nuclear blast

My main concern would be repopulation. The Librarian and his Wife are obviously capable of having children so they would be a must, plus she is already pregnant. The Olympic Athlete and the co-ed could hook up as well (yes I know thats a blunt way to put it). The Historian would be good to help piece history back together after the disaster. The Medical student would be vital since everyone else would have too little experience with such things if there was an emergency.

Olympic athlete is useless. There would be no real need for strenuous activity since we'd be sealed in a small area. The co-ed could hook up with the president as well. The Biochemist is the most useful, since he could start producing work that may make radiation null and void.

However, the most intelligent biochemist needs the proper equipment to do anything. Even if there was equipment in the bunker, it would be severely limited.
