Who do you think will be the actual squadmates in Mass Effect 3?

Now the game's release is coming up soonish, but I do like seeing this sort of speculation.

We have confirmed:

-Kaiden/Ashley
-Liara
-James Vega
-Garrus
-Tali

The rest of the squad, with rationale given:
-Jack is probably in as I can't envision her doing anything else after the deal with the collectors. And Cerberus betrays the team, so Shepherd and Jack would end up doing the same nonsense anyway.
-Thane, Kasumi, Zaeed might be in because they are basically mercenaries paid well to do a job(combat the collector/reaper threat), then are betrayed by Cerberus, the guy paying their bills. Probably wouldn't be too happy about that. Especially Zaeed. And I do hope i get my money's worth on Kasumi and Zaeed.
-Jacob and Miranda, I am unsure about, but I would be led to believe Cerberus betrays them along with the rest of the Normandy Crew, so they have good reason to stick with Shepherd. Then again, they could just as easily split off with Shepherd to fight Cerberus elsewhere.

Why I think these people probably will not be permanent squadmates:

Grunt and Wrex are basically the icons of the Krogan, and would probably try to reunite the clans to help Shepherd fight the Reapers.

Samara is a justicar, I believe she is bound to Shepherd only for the fight with the collectors, and would fight other injustices elsewhere, and also drum up support for Shepherd (or try to kill him if the PC was full-on renegade).

Legion is basically the Geth ambassador to Shepherd, he would probably go back to the Perseus Veil to get the Geth on board as well.

Mordin is probably going to be too busy fixing the genophage (along with any other necessary science things that need doing) to be gunning with Shepherd full time.

I think that covers my opinion, what about you guys?

The only one i care about is Liara everyone else can go and die, we could have everyone be as ugly as wrex for all i care.

Im hoping to see her naked this time.

Kasumi and Zaeed won't be ME3 squad-mates as they were DLC. I think that initial list of your was correct and that you are right about Samara, Mordin, Grunt and Wrex. I think Legion might be integral to the plot though (he didn't get much progression in ME2) so they will leave him in.

They will at least keep the ME2 love choices around because they wanted it to be an issue if you had relations with people in ME1. So I think we are stuck with Jacob and Miranda. Thane was dying so unfortunately I think he's probably dead :( I'm unsure about Jack though as you said she has gone through her character arc and there isn't much more for her to do. Plus she probably would just insta gib someone if she was jealous :|

So my list:
-Kaiden/Ashley
-Liara
-James Vega
-Garrus
-Tali
-Legion
-Jacob
-Miranda
-Jack

That makes 9 same as the original crew in ME2. This is just my opinion of course but it's just what seems likely to me.

I heard a rumour that you'll have to pick x amount of characters from the previous games to join you, with your selection making an impact on the story. This isn't such a wildly bizarre idea since certain characters won't join you if they died and I doubt Bioware would restrict your choice to about 3 definite people...

(For the love of God, it's Kaidan. With an A. There are zero E's in his name.)

I have a feeling the "dirty dozen" squadmates from ME2 are just going to be NPC's in ME3, following their own plotlines -- in which Shepard will help, of course. I don't know what the deal would be if you romanced Jack/Miranda/Jacob/Thane and they only ended up being NPC's. But it happened with Kaidan and Ashley in ME2 so I wouldn't completely ignore the possibility. It's not like Bioware couldn't just have them on visitable "homeworlds," or that they couldn't come and visit you for the romance scene.

I'm guessing all previous love interests will be in, since BioWare is still BioWare. That means Ashley, Kaidan, Liara, Tali, Garrus, Miranda, Thane, Jacob and Jack. Plus that Vega guy. That makes 10, the same number as ME2's team sans-DLC.

Joker better join the team.

Seriously, it'd be awesome.
Yeah, with his brittle bone thing, he'd be real useful in a fight... Unless Chakwas makes him an adamantium skeleton or something. [sub]Which would really be awesome.[/sub]

I'm pretty sure they've already said who it's gonna be.

Jack's a definite, as they've said they're gonna change up her look to make her seem like she's calmed down this time around. And I think they said they aren't going to add many new characters, just recycle them from the old games.

Which I'm fine with. I think they got everyone figured out pretty well.

Zaeed and Kasumi *may* reappear, only as DLC again. Wrex needs to be the Krogan leader, but it's plausible that Grunt is symbolically added to Shephard's team to show their support of his cause, though I can see him being a figurehead or general.

Jack seems plausible, as do Miranda and Jacob, who side with you over the Illusive Man at the end of 2.

Legion similarly might be an "ambassador" type that takes you to the Perseus Veil and requests to stay with you, after all it was hinted in 2 that he was complex enough to develop an emotional bond with Shephard (then again, that may just be because Shephard is so awesome he can defy death, scare Mecha-Cthulhu and give a robot emotions.)

I get the feeling each race you enlist the aid of (I'm assuming if they want to go "all out", you can lose or fail to gain the support of the different races) will in some way or another give you a character to represent their race on your team, i.e. Liara represents the Asari, Garrus the Turians and Tali the Quarians but they join out of loyalty rather than anything their race decides.

Likewise there'll either be a return of Legion, Mordin and Grunt or replacements thereof. The only one it really makes sense to replace it Mordin, seeing as he's a scientist first and fighter second.

I imagine all cast members who don't return as playable will instead lead some ever-so important team against the Reapers i.e. Mordin rejoining the STG, Legion commanding a Geth Armada etc.

Also, I'm really hoping the Rachni'll show up to help you out if you saved them way back in game one.

Also also, I hope Omega's a faction you can recruit. Hey, imagine if Aria was a squadmate? That'd be awesome!

EDI in a fembot body is a part of the main squad. (ugh)

Grunt, Jack, Jacob, Kasumi, Zaeed, Miranda, Thane, Samara, Legion and Mordin are not on the squad.

There is a Prothean soldier on the squad who you can only get with the Collectors edition.

All in all, i am very disappointed in the squad.

Is this legit? I haven't been really following the ME3 band wagon... source?

Leaked files. I really, really, wish it was bullshit.

Oh, and Edi has some sort of romance with Joker.

Ok, I'm starting to doubt how valid those leaked files were... That sounds like the kind of subplot Suda51 would come up with, not Bioware...

Sounds about right apart from a couple of things:

If you take Miranda with you to the final boss, there is a scene where she 'resigns' from Cerberus, so I'm thinking she may be permanent.

If you have gained Samara's loyalty and are a Paragon, you will get dialogue in one of her later conversations where she says something akin to "call for me and I will come for you", leads me to believe Paragons may be able to utilise her in ME3.

Yeah, you aren't the only one. That was one of the main reasons i thought they were bullshit, but BioWare have confirmed this.

The body belonged to TIM, and is made to look like an old friend of his who died just after the First Contact War (it happened in a comic).

You are falling into the same trap i did, assuming that characters will be brought back based on what makes sense for their character arc.

Sigh... Well there goes any notion of ME3 being a straight-faced space epic. First it's humanxAI hook-ups, next thing you know there's a giant mega-Shepard fistfighting a reaper.
