Michael Jackson.
For sure. Youtube his acapella tracks and behold what a great voice he had. This is proof enough. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ouVctSnu94]

Conan OBrien and Jon Stewart...these are two guys who have absolutely been through the wringer.
not sure what you mean by that... Conan O'Brien I'm not so sure, I think he made it on his quirkiness but Jon Stewart is really bright and even though his humor is diminishing I still watch The Daily Show and The Colbert Report every day (he produces both)

My vote for 'most deserving of his fame' would be Patton Oswalt. He is today what Dane Cook was four years ago, except that unlike Cook he's famous for his amazingly absurd stories and ridiculous punch lines, not just running around stage screaming about what it's like to get drunk and get laid.

Tom Hanks, one of the most successful actors in the world but also one of the least interesting from a pulp/tabloid point of view which is quite refreshing.

George W. Bush and Barack Obama. The former most powerful man alive and the most powerful man alive deserve to be known. And Jesus, Buddha, Muhammed, because they have had such a huge impact on the world.
Sounds like a close third would be Oprah.

Chuck. Motherfucking. Norris.
What do you mean? He was the star of crappy movies or whatever.

Out of all people, he was a "was once". The only thing keeping him famous are Chuck Norris jokes. ...Which you could attribute to any manly man.

Any man whose acting, TV series and movies are THAT bad and who gains this much of recognition not despite but, indeed, FOR it, has hit the jackpot. And he's not being a dick about the endless jokes and parodies, either - I recall watching a video of the guy reading aloud a list of Chuck Norris jokes and (at some point) keeling over with laughter and falling out of his chair. He's like William Shattner or Adam West without being particularly bothersome or campy.

Screw celebrity fame, Bill Gates, Stephen Hawking, Steve Jobs, (insert scientific revolutionary here)and guys like Newton, Liebniz, Vieta, and Kepler are the only ones who deserve fame.
