I'd check out the second album by Sneaker Pimps, Splinter, if you're into Massive Attack and Portishead. Also, Tricky's solo stuff. It's very odd, but worthwhile - especially the albums Maxinquaye, Knowle West Boy, Pre-Millenium Tension, and Vulnerable. Other artists I'd check out are Emilie Simon and Bjork's album Homogenic. And UNKLE too - particularly the first two albums. Hope that helps :)

As for Aphex Twin - yeah, pretty damn cool. Sometimes I find it a little too inaccessible for the sake of it, but there's no denying it's a very interesting listen. Richard D. James and the Come to Daddy EP are bloody brilliant.

Yeah, I know them. I'm sitting here lol'ing to myself because there was almost an exact replica thread about Daft Punk a week or so ago. You get points for at least being a tiny bit more obscure. I think I'm going to make a thread about Pendulum or something next.
i would be all over pendulum

I listened Aphex Twin like... 9 years ago. It's cool if you like it, it's all about personal taste of music.

Aphex Twin always reminds me of NIN (Nine Inch Nails) Even though they make completely different music. I have both their stuff in my CD collection. I guess it's because they both distorted the genres they were first classified with. Most of my friends who were into Aphex also loved NIN, so check it out if you feel experimental.

The lyrics always make perfect sense to me.

No I've never heard of them. From the posts here I get it's electronica so it doesn't surprise me, Klaxons are about as much has I go in that direction.

I think by "a tiny bit more obscure" you mean "a whole lot more awesome" :)

I'm an Aphex Twin fan. I particularly like his more ambient stuff, though his aggressive work is also sweet.

I strongly prefer Infected Mushroom to Aphex Twin. I do love the Rubber Jonny Video however.

Yeah? Well I listened to Aphex Twin like...20 years ago, so ner!

He grew up in Lanner, not far from where I lived until 8 months ago. I Like his old techno stuff and the obvious 'selected ambient works vol II' but I've not heard too much of his recent stuff.

I've been aware of Aphex Twin ever since their incredibly dull ambient recordings in the early 1990s. They improved somewhat through the years and "Come To Daddy" was probably when they really hit their stride.

Aphex Twin is one man. He is the face on all the characters. Stop saying he is a group. Please.
Well it's not technically incorrect. It's a "group" of one person, several artists do this and to refer to the group as "they" is perfectly acceptable and done all the time.

Anyone listen to Lounge, Down Tempo or Trip-Hop?

For trip-hop, I thought selected tracks on Tricky's "Maxinquaye" were the peak of this particular style and it's all been downhill from there.

Lounge music is something completely different though, not related at all.

I'm very picky with electronic music because I don't like dance music, but I love Aphex Twin.

I'm not too keen on his older dance influenced stuff, but I love the experimental Braindance (or IDM) side to his music. Things like Drukqs and the Richard D. James Album.

And people who say they like Aphex really need to try to listen to something other than Windowlicker and Come to Daddy. :p
54 Cymru Beats, from Druqks, is more up that alley. Also, Fenix Funk 5, from the Analord Series, is really cool.
