I beg the difference.

Tell me what you think that makes MC a good game character?
He is suited to what he does.

The books read through his story as a child, his personality - All the things that you say the games 'lack'.

I understand your point, but you cant call bullshit without all the facts.
He's suited to be a faceless killing machine?

Even if the books DO patch up MC's personality, the only people who are ever going to read those stories are the ones who already think that Halo is the best game since Super Mario 3. The other people who didn't find it that great are not going to bother to check it out, because the assume that it's just something that's very similar to the game.

My point is that if you're going to release some extra stuff to some game (e.g.fan fiction, expansion or soundtrack), there's no need to try to win more audience than the original thing. If they weren't impressed with the real deal, why would they be impressed to other stuff about it?
If the main dish is shit, you don't wait for the dessert (or something like, what yahtzee once said).
super mario 3 sucked.
and stop trolling
I beg your pardon!
YEAH! You heard! also, ignore the hypocrisy.

Sticky Shiteater from Fallout 3.

Also, that damn turtle from Tanaris in World of Warcraft for a few reasons:

1. He can talk. and he makes the most of it.

2. he is a turtle. a turtle cannot survive in the middle of a desert.

3. if any of the enemies around attempt to justify their pitiful lives by attacking me the turtle will decide HE wants to try fighting.

4. it's and ESCORT QUEST.

5. IT'S A TIMED. ESCORT. QUEST. 30 mins to trek across a searing hot desert being mauled by basilisks, hyenas, vultures and giant bugs with a giant turtle that wont shut the fuck up.

I think everyone needs to be reminded that this is meant to be the most useless character controlled by AI. I'd say the AI players in Worms, as they veer from ridiculously over accurate bastards to absolute maniacs.

he has a point, the game was the first impression of good ol master chief and it was a bit lacking, if the game didn't win him over i don't see why you he would ever read the book either.
I disagree, at least for halo 1. In the first one he does have some personality, such as a bit of loyalty towards captain keyes. They never put any emotion into the other two but I think the first game had a good master chief.
On topic: Either the marines from halo or any of the clone troopers you see in SW republic commando (most of whom die about 30 seconds later).
I'd say Halo 1 wasn't the only one in the series, as there was emotion in Halo 3. It's obvious in how Master Chief saves Cortana despite the objections that she might be controlled by the Gravemind, but there are more subtle indications. In the intro movie, when Master Chief shoves a gun in the Arbiter's mouth, the brief pause between Johnson telling him to put the gun down and Master Chief actually doing so conveys a lot.

Sorry if this is a tangent but I still disagree. Okay there was tension between arby and the chief but a moment later they were buddies and it never appears again, even in the cutscenes except for lord hood's comment at the end. Also any sympathy for cortana is undermined by her constant and irritating appearance when all you're doing is walking (same thing with gravemind, I liked him a bit before). This is probably what makes the cortana level so annoying, not only is it fairly difficult but the constant interruptions and the fact that cortana is not very likeable in halo 3, so making us go through a hard fight to rescue her irks me somewhat.

The RF3 allies are worthless, but at least they distract enemy bullets away from Thor long enough for him to unleash his Nordic might in a hammer swing capable of destroying tanks (I have actually taken out a tank with a hammer alone).

Though the true most worthless character would be Amy from the Sonic series. Everything she does is 100% annoying or worse. And the 2 times she was playable she was absolutely awful at everything and then some.

I'd like to think that Master Chief and the Arbiter gain respect for eachother as they fight together, but that's more my interpretation of it. You certainly see him aiding the humans by making sure that the Shipmaster didn't wipe out most of Earth to destroy the Flood, showing he thinks of them as an ally rather than a group with a similar agenda. As for Cortana, I didn't find her that irritating and the level itself didn't seem that hard, at least not on a second playthrough. However, I'm not going to argue with you over this as we obviously acknowledge the same points and we just have different opinions on them.

The Bard from FF4... so useless... so useless I forgot his name. All he does is whine about the death of his girl friend, and once weakens a dark elf so normal stuff can be used...
Hear Hear, he replaced my Sage! Scoring him no brownie points straight away. And one of his moves is to hide! There is nothing more useless!

Any of the healer NPCs from Guild Wars. Seriously you're in a big battle and they're way up front piffing enemies with their staff when they should be in the back not getting themselves killed.

Fair enough, each to his own I suppose.

Tingle! That jerk has sapped a lot of the enjoyment of far too many Zelda games. It's time to put that little green greedy simpering monstrosity to pasture.
Tingle isn't useless :( He sold you maps!
Yes, like Jar Jar Binks selling toilet paper. It may be necessary but oh, holy crap you do not want to deal with him.

Well I didn't absoulutely love the games and I read the books. They do tell you a lot about MCs past and they give him more of a personality.

OT: Luxiere form FF Crisis Core. He doesn't do anything except tell you how great you are.

Rikku from Final Fantasy 10. Her offensive power is pathetic, she can't learn magic, she doesn't have any particular abilities of interest...
The only time you ever need to use her is the one time in the game when you see a chest. But.. that's it.. unless you're like me and you like nabbing loads of gil from mimics. But that's not vital, is it?

Did you even bothered to read my post? I admit that there were quite a many words, but seriously, did you even try?

Argh!
Alright, look. I don't care if the books DO infact make MC more of a human being, because I'm not going to read the damn books. "Why not?" Read my previous post and maybe you'll figure it out.

Ugh, I know that one. I think that they just put it there for the sake of some lame inside joke or something.

I never understood why everyone hated Sheva. I always found her a good teamate. But In all reality, I'd say that Atlas from Bioshock.

"Hey Hurry up and kill that big daddy. And while your at it, why dont you fetch me some juice. AND when your done, I think I'll try to kill you. CODE YELLOW BIZNITCH!!!!"

Jerk. I freakin take over rapture for you and you pull that $hit.

That Marine from Halo who is somehow so attracted to rocks that he drives cars into them... oh wait, that is EVERY Marine in Halo.
