Faramir is really under appreciated. In the books he is a total bad ass and all around good dude. In the movies he is a whiny twat with an inferiority complex.

I'm going to go with Faramir from LOTR. He's pretty awesome in the books, though they give him an emotional crisis or something in the movie
Holy crap. Nobody ever gets this. Faramir was my favourite character in the book even though he doesn't do much. Then the movie came out and they made him a shitbag and I was like:"Fuck you, Peter Jackson!" and none of my friends understood. Then again, none of them have read the book.

Aside from that, I don't have much to add. The kind of characters I like usually have large, albeit weird, fanbases. Traps, ahoy!

I'll second the vote for Applejack, she gets way too few central appearances. "Applebuck Season" is still my favourite episode so far.

That said, a lot of shows and games I like have characters I'd like to see more of. For example, Mayuri Kurotsuchi from Bleach needs more appearances; that guy's so deliciously twisted, and in several of his scenes he's also unintentionally hilarious.
I'm also still disappointed that Vorador and Mortanius got such small roles in the Legacy of Kain games; their (supremely acted) dialougues were some of the best I've heard in gaming.

Hmmm, Reptile from Mortal Kombat. Yes he started life as a Palette swap but his look has changed over the years, he has a pretty interesting back story and genuine motivation that isn't "Take over the world" unfortunately he is canon fodder and only shows up when someone needs to kick some ones ass.

I was very much impressed by Raiden when he popped up in the very first MGS, being invisible and all.
I like Raiden too but when did this happen?

People shit on her because it's the hip thing to do, but if you didn't understand what makes Oerba Dia Vanille one of the most well-written characters in any J-RPG ever, then that's your fault. Remarkably layered and more emotionally stimulating than Final Fantasy has ever been, Vanille's struggle to face the negative repercussions of her own unflappable benevolence is the true centerpiece of Final Fantasy XIII. If they'd centered the game around her right from the outset rather than forcing us to watch Snow Villiers be a dumbass for ten hours, the end result would have been a much better game. I liked it anyways, though.
It's hip to shit all over a terribly contrived character archetype with a terrible Australian accent?

Could have fooled me.

You like her? That's fine, but 'one of the most well-written JRPG characters ever' and it's my fault for not recognising that?

There is no palm huge enough and no face exasperated enough to show my feelings for that statement.

OT: Tobi!

The best racing rival a Sun Goddess could ever hope to have.
Tobi. Yes Tobi...
I played Okami only recently (and I'm already sad I finished it twice, :sadlol:) and Tobi is one of my favorite character.
At first I was like "the fuck is this?", but as the race continued, I liked him more and more, until the end... manly tears were shed that time. :'(
As we all did friend.

I was like, "who the bloody hell does this paper think he is?", but as the race progressed, it became apparent that he was more than just a piece of paper.

Godspeed you magnificent bastard.

Oh God. I am torn between these two:

Paul Phoenix. Some may call him a simpleton. I call him what he is: a tank and a dreamer. I love his determination and his to the point attitude. Plus, he is the only character in a Tekken game this far that has won a tournament and is not a Mishima or a Kazama. He is also modern. Deep in debts and after a job. Who can't relate?

Fawkes. Mainly cause people do not know what they are missing! Infinite health, a gatling laser that just won't go empty, faithful and with immense spiritual strength. I rarely meet someone on the good side of the karma when it comes to Fallout 3.

It wasn't proper Raiden but "Gray Fox"/Frank Jaeger... sort of like Raiden with a proper Ninja hat on. His skillset and his moves set the mold for "emo" Raiden/Jack. Yeah, I'm guilty of not bothering with the story about midway through MGS2, and I was amongst those that didn't like the bait-and-switch of MGS2... I liked MGS4, but the story was more convoluted than the history of Dallas told by Goichi Suda on LSD.

<----- Yeah she can get on peoples nerves but she's a damn fine support character who actually supports you(looking at you Rise) and is so damn cute. Plus she survived in Tarturus for a few weeks without having to fight once.

Others:Dilandau Albatou(Escaflowne) ,this is how you write a sympathetic ax crazy villain, and one of the few times a over the top performance adds to a character.

Albus(Order of Ecclesia), he had my favorite extra mode in any of the Castleroids and went around screaming his moves like he was in his own Shonen show.

Shinra& Shingen(Durarara!!) Both are delightfully goofy and quirky and for Shinra it really works as he's the kind of guy who would fall in love with a Dullahan.

I felt the same way. Then again anyone would look fairly weak next to a brother who can take a fair few arrows to repent for his betrayal. I also had a problem with how Legolas was cut down to a plot device so that the fan girls would have an idea of what was going on.

Ah right I get you now, got a bit confused haha. The ninja in MGS2 was to parody the one from MGS. I was also annoyed by the bait and switch they did but I still place that as one of my top 10 games just because of how much I played it. Guess I kinda got used to Raiden, he is pretty badass.

I agree as well. I think what really did it for me though was in the second movie when he can't kill that big dude with the torch and the wall explodes. But in the VERY next scene he is sliding on a shield shooting and killing dudes. Seriously? But thats about the only criticism I have for Peter Jackson as far as directing goes.

I have to admit the first time I met Gray Fox, I basically pooped my pants and died about a dozen times before I comprehended what was going on and what to do about it. But that was a gaming moment to remember.

I do... DID like Raiden (aka Jaeger 2.0 beta), but ever since MGS2, he feels like a George Lucas take one something that was unique, awesome and superb to begin with (Jaeger) and turning it into something Shia LaBoeuf could pretend to be... while giving me and others that strange Yoshimitsu vibe, just to confuse us all just a little bit more.

To be honest... as much as I liked playing some stretches of MGS4, the Raiden battles/final sacrifice felt... well, a sugar-glacied doughnut with a cheezwhizz filling. Over at our total immersion gaming HQ, a room full of MGS fanatics burst out into random laughing and shouting obscenities because it was just way over the top....

The only other time a room full of adults turned into animals was during the first showing of colour-coded Traffic on DVD. God, that movie made us pile on top of each other and just drool as if somebody had stolen our brains while we were still figuring out the meaning of yellow and blue and whatnot.
