Magneto, though he's less of a villain these days, tragic origin story and a compelling motivation, awesome powers.

But really it's the costume, what I love is how it has features of a heroic costume such as a cape and briefs on the outside but also the sinister element in the helmet. Even the colours are an interesting choice, in comics the largest majority of good characters wear primary (the art ones not physics) colours and villains wear secondary, it doesn't apply to every character but it's a noticeable trend. Magneto has both purple and red, both a secondary and primary colour, highlighting the contrasting evil and nobility. Also purple was often the colour of both religion and royalty, a place Magneto occupies as a symbolic leader of mutants, while red can represent both his anger and the blood he has shed.

Zuko (assume all my comments to be about Season 2, when he was the most interesting), by the time the show starts, has been hunting the Avatar for 3 years, convinced capturing him will allow him to restore his honor (the fire nation is modeled after imperial Japan. To them, Honor is a literal thing that can be taken away) and, more importantly, regain his father's love. You know what? I can't do this justice. Watch this [http://www.animefreak.tv/watch/avatar-s02e07-english-dubbed-online-free] episode. It's possibly the best in the entire series, and it sums up Zuko as a character perfectly.
To me the Fire Nation seemed more like a fusion of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan:

*The genocide of the Air nomads (Holocaust)
*Initial strike of the war and upper hand (blitzkrieg)
*Technological superiority and invention of new machnes of war (Germany invented many new weapons during WWII and had some very impressive technology)
*Indoctrination of children (Hitler youth)

Plus the honour aspect of Imperial Japan and the belief that their race is superior to other races (although the Nazis believed this too).

Although in the end yes I do agree with you that Zuko, Azula and the Fire Nation in general were great antagonists.

"Zuko Alone" was a great episode and another thing I loved about Zuko was how he was constantly having to choose between the advice of Iroh and those of Azula and being able to reconcile with his father.

I may have to think about this a little bit harder. My memory is terrible and I feel like I may be leaving some considerations out. But.

At the time, I gotta give it to GLaDOS. Just a brilliantly done character. At the very least my favorite twist on the age old 'AI goes crazy and kills everyone' trope that SciFi loves so much.

That was, hands down, my favorite Azula moment ever.
You've got to love the villains that know they're evil, and are okay with it.
Oh, it was good, but I'm not sure if it was the BEST. I mean, a certain moment involving a pair of scissors comes to mind...
I was getting chills during this moment! The animators and voice actor nailed that moment and it absolutely could NOT have been any creepier. Most of Azula's moment's were genuinely, terrifyingly creepy. I also love the moment when she's frozen with Katara - the pure manic rage on her face... it's so impressive they managed to pull off that range on an animated character.

OT: Hands down, Harley Quinn. She has a giant sledgehammer, talks in that attractively annoying nasally 1940's voice, and she wears roller blades. Plus, she's attached to the Joker, also pretty awesome.

Also, from one of the only animes I've seen - Mariko. Little girl is so cute... and so crazy and full of bloodlust.

Luckily for you guys I actually have a top 5 favorite villains! Because I'm organized like that.

5. Warren Mears- Sort of like SRS business Jack Spicer
4. Greed/Ling- The essence of greed combined with a funny prince. Neat stuff
3. Kel'Thuzad- A lich of awesome power from the warcraft verse. He's a got a pretty nifty back story to him.
2. Gideon Graves- A bad ass villain from a badass comic. I love that he's evil and no one gives a damn just because he's cooool.
1. Jack Spicer- I wanted to be just like him when I was little wee lad. He does sort of set the foundation for my personality to this day... >>'

Better known as Carnage!

I am saddened I don't see him on more "Top x" lists of villains. If he is on there he really needs to be higher.

Pyramid Head. He'll rape you then kill you. Or kill you then rape you. Either way it's not going to be fun.

Or GLaDOS. "How have you been? I've been really busy being dead. You know, after you murdered me"

Or The Emperor. Never before has a crusty old guy been so terrifying.

Josef Stalin. The guy was kind of a boss and an interesting character in terms of personality and psychology. Not justifying the action of Stalin. Personally I think he may have been worse than Hitler in terms of genocide and power.

I always liked Benjamin Linus from LOST. He's so manipulative that even now that the show's over I'm not even sure if he's a villain or not. I just loved the way that he's not particularly strong or badass or even above average in any way except for his ability to scheme. But that's all he ever needs to dominate everyone.

Richard III. It always has been. Don Logan comes close but it is the unquenching evil of Ricard that keeps drawing me back. My favorite Richard is McKellen by miles.

-Megabyte. The man always had a plan;always had an out door. He was an INCREDIBLE magnificent bastard. If he had better hiring principles...He'd have the competent help he'd need to conquer the net.

-Saren Arterius (Mass Effect novel): He was an ass. He was an ass on a mission. "I hate humans...Wait,the Council is thinking about making a human a Spectre? SABOTAGE!" And that's how Anderson never made Spectre.

-Kane,Father of the Brotherhood of Nod. Not much needs to be said. He ALWAYS has a plan. A failiure is simply another opprotunity for him to succeed.

-Nicol Bolas: He's an elder dragon. He's also a planeswalker. He brought five floating continents together in order to restore the infinite power he once had.

-Sarah Kerrigan,Queen of Blades,Queen ***** of the Universe: She has plans. She has power. He has legions at her disposal. He rarely fails.

Duke. It's actually kind of hard to justify calling him a villain, but seeing as he is the final hurdle in the game, I'll roll with it. He has interesting justifications for all of his actions. He's actually very similar to the heroes and truly does want to save the world, just not for humanity. For the sake of any extreme spoilers, he basically had his trust and faith shattered earlier in his life and goes on a full-out effort to save the world through his own methods. His perspective is just very fascinating to me.

EDIT:
I almost forgot, a special mention has to be made towards Sensui, as I was thinking purely game-wise when I said Duke.
Imo, Yu Yu Hakusho's best villain, because of his complexity.
He has 7 different fractioned personalities that all live within his mind to help him bear an immense personal guilt. While a little insane, he nearly destroys humanity just to make up for his former crimes against demons.

Even though he losses again, again, again and again in the series; I love Vegeta as a villain and anti-hero.

Watching the Saiyan Saga over and over and over again made him godlike to me as a kid.

Of course, I idolized Goku more.

"Life... is strength. This is not to be contested; it seems logical enough. You live; you affect your world. But is it what you want? You are... different inside. This woman lives and has strength of a sort. She lost her parents to plague, her husband to war, but she persevered. Her farm has prospered, her name is respected and her children are fed and safe. She lived as she thought she should. And now she is dead. Her land will be divided, her children will move on, and she will be forgotten. She lived a 'good' life, but she had no power; she was a slave to death. I wonder if you are destined to be forgotten. Will your life fade in the shadow of greater beings?"

"You walk as a mortal, taking no advantage from your heritage, from your talents within. So many things of flesh are greater than you. Walk among them, these beasts that are less than you are. See their strength; see how easily you fall to their muscle and skill. Why do you stand for this? Why do you submit to the flesh when death is bred in your bones? Do you realise the power you might hold? When the world of flesh is beneath you, even creatures mysterious and magical will fall!"

"I... I do not remember your love, Ellesime. I have tried. I have tried to recreate it, to spark it anew in my memory, but it is gone... a hollow, dead thing. For years, I clung to the memory of it. Then the memory of the memory, and then nothing. The Seldarine took that from me, too. I look upon you and feel nothing. I remember nothing but you turning your back on me, along with all the others. Once my thirst for power was everything. And now I hunger only for revenge. And I... WILL... HAVE IT!!"

Kreia from Knights of the Old Republic 2.

Not a single doubt, and listening to any of her Endgame speeches is enough reason. It's late and school starts tomorrow so I can't take the time to post them, but I'm certain they are on Youtube.
Don't worry, I was gonna say the same exact thing. I'll put up a video or two.

Not embedding them because they're Google videos taken from an amazing LP. Gigantic spoilers ahead.

Good Version [http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=3499729895149183484]
Evil Version [http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=4783425005198994301]

Fantastic scene either way, and it's largely Kreia who makes it so.
Is there an index of sorts you could link me to? I'd love to watch the full LP.
It's actually a text-and-screenshot LP, he just did videos of the more pivotal moments. That actually may serve this game better, as he can really get deep with the discussions.

If that doesn't scare you, here [http://lparchive.org/Knights-of-the-Old-Republic-II/].

Nero, from the newest Star Trek movie. Sure, he was a bit crazy, but what good villain isn't?

"I would rather die in agony!"

There are definitely other good ones here, but I believe Nero's the only one that comes to mind that hasn't been listed yet.
