Why is it that everytime I go into a forum about movies there are more people praising District 9? *Sighs heavily*

Anyway, in terms of directors that make movies which are actually GOOD, my favourite is definitely Stanley Kubrick. However, after just spending some time with Godfather 2, I have to put Francis Ford Coppola on the list as well. Godfather 1 and 2, and Apocalypse Now - that's all I need to say. Quentin Tarantino is another who's movies I always enjoy, and the Cohen brothers are always great for some good ol' schadenfreude (not to mention some pretty amazing movies, as well).

I'm not a big movie person at all, so I guess I'll go with Speilberg, mainly because of Schindler's List and Jurassic Park. Amazing films those ones, particular Jurassic Park... (goes and looks up the theme song on youtube... ahhhhhh.... bliss).

Ridley Scott - he has directed a lot of good films across a variety of genres, from Alien to Gladiator, from Black Hawk Down to Kingdom of Heaven. And the epic(-ly confusing) Bladerunner.

Never seen a film of his I didn't like, so he takes top place for me.

Danny Boyle, Wes Anderson, Tim Burton and Peter Jackson are great. James Cameron and Spielberg get an honorable mention. But the true artist is really Micheal Bay, I mean come on, he's got MICHEAL BAYSPLOSIONS!!! kaboom! :) jk
Thanks for the Robot Chicken nod :)

Spike Jonze and Paul Thomas Anderson are probably my 2 favorites. I'll tell you if I still love James Cameron after I see Avatar. I love Tarantino. No one's said the Wachowskis, but they may have jumped the shark with that Speed Racer trash. I'm hoping Bryan Singer returns to his Usual Suspects/X-2 greatness.

Peter Jackson, and the director of the only Star Wars movie Lucas didn't direct.
Lucas did not direct Empire or Jedi, and they were directed by 2 different people.

Zack Snyder, anyone? I know I'm dreaming but I'd love to see this guy take over the X-men

Why? So we can have another awkward sex scene with some bad gore effects and some cheesy one-liners?

No sir.

Rodriguez, Burton, Spielberg (obviously), Tarantino, Craven, Cameron, Kubrick, Gilliam, and Jackson.

I honestly couldn't chose between them.

I also have a soft spot for Bay, seeing as his utter lack of a soul has resulted in some of the funniest reviews for anything I have ever seen, especially The Spoony One's review of Transformers 2.

I'm pretty sure that's not Watchmen you're referring to, so is it 300 or Dawn of the Dead? I don't recall AKWARD sex scenes or BAD gore effects in either film. Maybe you'd prefer the horrible de-aging makeup and one-liners such as "In Chess, the pawns go first," from Brett Ratner's stab at the franchise.
