I remember when Myst came out, but never played it. I always regretted it, because it looked beautiful and I'd heard it was hard and I like a challenge. I think, due to it's age, Myst is always going to remain in that category of games - I wish I had and now I can't.
Why not? No longer compatible? Because finding a copy of it probably wouldn't be all that hard.

One of my newer PCs can't run Riven for some reason. I think its version of QuickTime is too advanced.

I love Myst 1, 2, 3 and 4 (though 4 was a hell of a lot easier)

But 5 was TERRIBLE!!! They took everything that made the series great (photographic graphics, puzzles, interesting worlds ect) and SHIT all over it! It was really, REALLY bad. I mean seriously, you can not understand how much they fucked up that series until you played that game.

I really should go back and play Myst, Riven and Exile by myself, I remember looking for cheats a lot of the time.

I partially agree. Though, I've only played it once. I think I should play through it again some day so I can better realize how it all fit in. (Or didn't fit, as the case may be.)

I loved the first game. It turns out you could complete it in about two minutes. You only had to flip the switches around the island, take the white page and go to the fireplace.

Once there press the dots until you are taken to a white book. Place the page into the book and you win.

Still, I have a lot of fond memories of the game. It was just awesome.

The hardest puzzle for me in the original Myst (I played the Real Myst version) was the keyboard and the sliders. I'm so tone deaf it's pathetic. The rest were really straight forward when you figured out what you were supposed to be doing.

The other games were at least difficult enough for me to have to write pages and pages of notes. Whenever a new game came out I would go to a store like Walmart and buy the game and a spiral notebook. I still have the notebooks from Myst 4 and Myst 5. They're full of rough sketches, notes, and insults to myself from where I had an "aha!" moment after spending an hour on a puzzle.
that's awesome

that's the most perfect Myst story, and if the developers read that, I'm sure they'd smile, because it's pretty much exactly what they were going for.

I loved the entire series, haven't beaten 4 or 5 though.

Uru was also fun; too bad the mmo aspect fell through - both myself and a friend were really looking forward to it.

I would play them for the visuals alone. I find them stunning even today.
Myst 1 is still frame, badly rendered 3d images with horrible resolution video files of the game developers acting badly.

It was revolutionary back then, but don't kid yourself.

Which sub is this? The underground tram in Myst? Or the mini-sub in Myst II: Riven?
or perhaps even the spore-collecting pod thingy in Myst IV: Revelation
