It doesn't look like it's dying to me:

At GDC they asked developers questions, and this is the data they came up with.
It looks to me that PC gaming is doing fine.

I haven't heard anyone say it in quite some time. At least not with any seriousness.

General consensus is that PC gaming is having a bit of a renaissance. Some are even saying that it's the most popular it has ever been in gaming's history. I'm not so sure about that, but it's certainly thriving.

Yeah, I haven't heard that little gem for a while, and usually it's just from people who want to justify why they're focusing on a console and then porting over to PC. Not that I believe they should have to defend the decisions they make from the ire of gamers, but they could do a little better at not antagonizing those to whom they're trying to sell their products.

GOD DAMN NINJAS.

Anyway, I think the reason PC and Tablets/smartphones are so high up is because of indie games.
It seems to be a lot easier for indie devs to make games and get them out there on those particular platforms and I think if you were to find stats on Triple A games the chart would probably be a bit more evenly spread between the main consoles and PC.

Who made that image? Do they REALLY want Duke Nuke'm Forever in there on the bottom right? : )

Anyway, the last time I heard that PC was dying was about eight years ago when piracy was really starting to grow and the current-gen consoles were just coming out. I don't believe I've heard anyone say that in many a years (well...outside of the ironic statements but those don't count).

I suppose that argument might re-crop back up by silly people with the next-gen now coming out but I don't think anyone actually takes that seriously.

Yeah, I kinda had to laugh at that when I saw it again. I bet the image is from 2009 or so, but it still stands, relatively speaking. There are a bunch of new games we could add to it, technically.

X-COM, The Witcher 2, Torchlight II, Dishonored, Dark Souls (regardless of the quality of the port, it still got one simply because of fan request), Sins of a Solar Empire, and I could just keep going.

Probably the same people who say the world is going to end every few years.

The only problem with PC gaming is the poor ports and sometimes that game you really want to play but it's only on console, those are my only 2 issues (pc gamer myself). I'd also like to see some proper lan functionality but lan appears to be a dying feature.

Come on guys, can we drop this now? PC gaming isn't dying, it's thriving. The evidence is there, and there in force. Just enjoy your games.

No one. No one said PC gaming is dying. Seriously, why would you even say that?

And those graphs in the OP; what does the percentage in either of them actually mean? That axis is unlabelled in each case. They're both kind of non-sensical, especially since in both the totals add up to more than 100% which only makes sense if it was a survey where you could select multiple answers. That still makes no sense, as how can multiple platforms be the "Most Interesting"? Does the percentage for the 360 and PS3 include downloadable games?

If you thrust a graph in our face with little to no explanation in our face, it tells us nothing.

Neither PC gaming, nor console gaming is dying. Both are doing better than ever and both are only going to continue to grow. But they are both going digital, just like most all media (i.e. movies, music, books, porn, etc...)

Sucks for retailers and tech-scared individuals, but nothing can dam the stream.

PC gaming has to be my favorite. When you have a good laptop, it's just so much more convenient. I can play Dragon Age on a fucking plane with my laptop, and I have. The ability to play just about anywhere and the fact that I don't need to pay extra for internet connectivity, not to mention the power in this little machine, makes PC gaming awesome.

Most popular it's ever been? Since there's more computers available per household than ever before, makes sense. (glances around house noticing six different PCs, all riddles with games)

I´ve seen tons of console gamers (including myself very recently) switch over to PC in the last 2 years or so. Anyone who spends enough time playing games is sooner or later going to figure out that the PC is simply the most interesting platform.

Graphs and numbers? Who needs that when you just need to look around at what you can get on it.
