Who should be the next Batman?

With the Nolan trilogy done and the inevitable (/ly awful?) Justice League movie looming somewhere on the horizon, there was a rumor that Christian Bale might be reprising his role as Batman in the film. The rumor was later debunked, but it got me thinking: Who should be the next Batman?

My choice would be Karl Urban.

He might be putting on years, but that doesn't take away the fact that his performance as Judge Dredd was pitch perfect, and would easily translate into Batman. He has the menacing stature and gritty voice down perfectly. I think he'd be great.

So who would be your picks?

Urban's good. I would also like Ryan Gosling after what he did in Drive. Definitely has the chops for it.

That's actually an interesting take. A Batman who barely talks, and doesn't even scowl all the time, but still beats the living crap out of all the criminals. It would really play into the "You're just as crazy as we are" shtick the Batman villains often use.

Terry McGinnis obviously. Now is the right time to take up Paul Dini on his Batman Beyond movie proposal from 2000.

I think they should use an up-and-comer. Someone who's either not been given much of a chance yet or someone completely new and different. If anything it would make for an interesting new direction to take Batman; from a series of films that would cast well known actors as big, bombastic baddies to a potential series of movies that gives up-and-comers a shot. Now that I think about it though, I don't know how popular Cillian Murphy was before Begins and Dark Knight is the highest profile thing I can think of that Aaron Eckhart has been in by that point in his career...so yeah, let's oust Bale and get some fresh, new blood under that cowl!

And that is where you have made your first error! Dick Grayson has already made a far superior Batman. At least he smiles.

I think we should definitely get someone new in there but to be honest I couldn't really say who. Should definitely be someone new and on the way up but not too young. Karl Urban I liked a lot in Dredd so I would be willing to cast my vote for him for now. Although, this is going too far ahead as the important part of a Batman story is the villain/villains. I'm more excited for them than anyone else really.

Yeah, second that.

Also, how many members of the bat family are there? Dick Grayson has been in 2 movies, Barbara in Batman and Robin, no Huntress, no Drake, no Todd or Cassandra or Stephanie, no Oracle, no Damian, no Proxy.

Batman should be offscreen, being talked about by Huntress, Oracle and the Black Canary.

Yeah either Nic Cage thanks to Big Daddy or Karl Urban thanks to Dredd. Easily the most popular choices.

Thing is, could either of them do Bruce Wayne? (Much to do besides wear a tux and act like a spoilt bratman? Suppose there's not masses beyond the thin veneer of "No, I'm not the Batman")

Personally I'd love to see a 3D animated version of the DCAU. Like this:

Get the original voice cast back together, the original writers, it'd be a blast.

Karl urban would make a solid Batman, because Dredd was totally awesome.

My preference however?

Samuel L. Jackson.

Good choice for Batman, not so good for Bruce Wayne.

Now, Jacky Chan. He's got the silly comedy Bruce Wayne thing, and the Batmany martial arts. Bit old though.
