I can think of two very good reasons:

1) In a lot of places (including where I live), internet speeds are still horrendously bad, and ordering from amazon and waiting for it to ship from another country would still probably be faster than downloading it.

2) Steam has the stupidest regional pricing in the eurozone. Apparently we should be paying 1.4 times what the americans pay for everything. Outside of a sale, I can easily get a game for twenty quid less by ordering a physical copy online.

When I can manage it I prefer to buy a physical copy from my local Gamestop, been shopping there for years so the staff knows me well. Though since I've moved away for school I more and more buy my games through Steam. Still, give me a physical game copy to put on my bookshelf of games any day.

I brought the new Zelda game from eBay for halve retail price $43 as apposed to $99. This makes me wonder, why did I even look in eb games first and does anyone else buy games over other internet shops.
You're obviously Australian (or nearby) like me if your prcing is anything to go by.
As such I suggest you check catalogues more often. $99 is like the recommended retail price, but Kmart, Big W and JB Hi-Fi all generally have specials which knock the price down by at least $10-$20. EB, Gametraders and Game, as well as anywhere else selling the game will generally match those prices.

Now I realise that still doesn't compare to your $43 (which I'll admit I'm a tad dubious about but I'll take your word for it). But when you factor in the time and cost involved with shipping, as well as the possibility of lost/damaged parcels, its can be easier to buy it in store.

Not to say there's anything wrong with buying through eBay its just not for everyone.

For the record I didn't even buy mine at the reduced price, I paid full price and a bit more for the version with the golden Zelda themed Wii-Mote.
thanks for the tip, next time I will look in JB.

I'm all over the place. I buy my games in physical stores, I buy physical copies off Trademe and I buy digital copies online (Steam, Good Old Games). It just depends on what I feel to be the best course of action at the time.

My shelf of game boxes/cases makes a very nice decoration.
