I have this girl friend who was going to go on our version of prom a while ago with her boyfriend. They had arranged that he would come by her house to take pictures and whatnot at around 20.00 pm. Now she took hours to get ready, and so help me whatever deity you favour she looked beuatiful. However there was a little problem since the boyfriend was delayed a bit because of his parents but he'd try to get there. Now a little while later she called him to tell him she'd be delayed a bit because of her hair (apparently hers was being very stubborn). Then he starts to freak out and calling her names, shouting he didn't want to go with her anymore, cursing at her parents, and telling her he'll put her on the bus as soon as they got to prom.

This guy left his (now ex-girlfriend, naturally) in tears on one of the most important night of any teenager, for no actual reason at all other that she had a bit of hair-trouble. I'm having a really hard time comprehending why anyone would do such a thing.

What are your two cents on this? Any similar stuff happened to you or your acquaintances on prom?

I don't see how it actually matters, I mean its just one event that people build up far too much, personally if she was willing to be that caught up about it something like that was inevitable.

Lesson learned for her.

Whatever you do, don't be the rebound guy.

Other than that, be a friend and make her feel like nothing has changed between you two.

I'm not saying I put the event on a pedestal myself just that it is tradition, and people find it important. If everyone gets worked up about it and finds it an important event (even the guy in question) I think the girl had a right to be devastated.

Well it could have been alot worse because somewhere near i live someone stabbed somebody's father because their daughter dumped them, now that is screwed up, but that was in a rough area.

Anyways with what happened with the person you where talking about he may have wanted it to be the best night of HIS life so he had to be on time and everything had to be perfect, so someone being late may have messed up all of his plans to look snazzy infront of his friends.

Still not an excuse to go bat-shit insane though.

This is a potentially ridiculously easy way of getting a girl-friend. It's not definite, but you could try it.

I don't think it'll work. I'm "just a good friend".

Well since that little story of yours seems almost completely unexplainable, the only explanation I could think of for it is that the boyfriend took some sort of drugs before the prom and freaked out or something. Yeah, that sounds like the most likely reason.

Im sure that guy will have a very fulfilling life beating prostitutes for kicks...

I personally believe everyone should go to prom with someone they are friends with, and not romantically involved. I went with my girlfriend of that time to prom, and now have 100 photos that I could care less about. No matter the deal, people still make prom out to be the best night of their lives, and should not get stood up the night of, that is kind of cruel. But they will get over it when they find out how much better life is outside of high school, and hopefully learn that assholes like that are numerous, and hopefully you gained some sense that they should be avoided.

Looks like the guy to uptight he was most likely panicked. Really though that was a stupid thing to do, though this guy sounds like my Ex-girlfriend.

Did I ask for advice then? Don't think so. I asked what your thoughts were on this, and if you know anything similar has happened in your life.
I'm not really one for asking "how can I play my cards right so she might pick me as her rebound-guy?" on the internet. I'm also not asking what I should do about the situation in general, so no advice was asked.

Of course I assume you were joking, so in that case: Haha.

Eh, that can't be the whole story. Sometimes people stay in a relationship way past their due date, and then it's just some little thing like this which becomes the last straw and finally sets the person off.

That or maybe they're just stupid teenagers. Who the fuck cares.

Correct with the joking assumption
