From what hints have been scattered in ME2... I'm betting that the Shadow Broker will become a problem in ME3. Not necessarily the main villain (or villains), but a threat that'll have to be dealt with.

As for the main antagonist... I was kinda imagining something that appears different to every species; i.e. every species sees this being as a highly attractive and charismatic member of their own species, thus more likely to listen to him/her/it. I kinda imagine this... thing... as being the Reaper's Indoctrination carried onto its most weaponized form... the ability to completely turn everyone on each other, or to attract others to it with almost no chance of resistance. I'd like to think of this being as more of a "Herald" than a "prophet".

Heh... "Herald of the Reapers"... yeah... arrives on different planets, and does everything it can to ensure minimal to no resistance from local populace when the Reapers show up.

It's also possible there won't be a "big bad" fight at the end. It's rare, but there are games that do not have them. Sort of like "Ultima VI". The game ends when you complete a specific objective, which in the case of "Ultima VI" was being able to look at "The Codex Of Infinite Wisdom" which ended a war.

Maybe at the end of the game Shepard will simply press an "off" switch and half the point will be that after all of the stuff that went on, the final act was kind of minor. :p
Fucking LOL, mate. Monty Python's Mass Effect 3! Everything comes to an epic climax, and then 20th century policemen come and arrest everybody for the murder of an old historian.

The Reapers are going to have to be the main enemy, or someone working for them. Everything so far has been leading up to one of two routes from what I can see:

- A huge battle with the Reapers in which other armies/races will be recruited such as the Quarians, Geth, Krogan, Rachni. They seem to be hinting at this strongly in Mass Effect 2.

- Or you will instead be fighting to stop the Reapers from leaving Dark Space at all in which case you will be fighting to destroy their gateway, or their allies that can help them do so, effectively trapping them there forever.
You'll have to destroy them. The defeats of Sovereign and the collectors left them with no way to use the mass relays to quickly return. Unfortunately, they still have FTL drives so they could simply travel back to the galaxy. It'll take alot longer, but they'll still get there eventually.

That's a definite step up from what I thought. Much better for recruiting followers, plus Bioware seems to have a thing for the word "Herald", so it makes sense. Do I sense a twisted ending involving the antagonist as an optional Love Interest?

Sovreign. There's some debate as to whether he actually died at the end of ME1, so him coming back is plausable. And it would be a MAGNIFICANT "Oh Crap" moment when you hear him say, after having caught up with the cyborg causing problems, "I AM THE VANGUARD OF YOUR DESTRUCTION".
how can anyone possibly believe that Sovereign could still be alive when the games made it quite clear that an entire fleet of warships took their sweet time blasting it to ity bity pieces. they then gathered up all the debris and dissembled them too.

Getting triple teamed by the Reapers as a giant army, the Illusive Man trying to bump you off, and either insane cultists or maybe even the council themselves trying to off you (this is assuming you have played a Paragon to the hilt) would be awesome. Partly because you could give some great Picard Speeches about 'The enemy is out there! We must draw the line! Soylent Green is made of Salarians!' And have no one listen.

I don't want a single enemy in ME3 as the final one, I want some sort of twisted three way battle, where you start by attacking Reapers, then halfway through the IM turns up to stop you, then the Council comes in to blow everyone to Hell, and you somehow have to survive.

EDIT: Oh, and I want the Shadow Broker doing something as well.

It's mostly due to the fact that a) He is, first and foremost, an AI and a damn powerful one at that, with the ability to shift his consciousness around wirelessly and b) related to the first, but the theory goes that "Why would he shut down after you destroy zombie Saren? ...Unless he realised he was screwed and went elsewhere to lick his wounds and try something else..."

So, we haven't seen any of the alien homeworlds yet (apart from the Krogan one...). Maybe we'll be seeing Turian space and Asari space and Salarian space and maybe even Elcor and Volus! :D

The Illusive Man. Those eyes of his make me think that he's already under the Reaper's control and he might not even realize it. You know what with Indoctrination and all.

I do not know who the final villain will be, but I bet Shepard will be offered to become a Reaper (as a pinnacle of humankind. there were some clues...). So eventually Shepard could become the ultimate villain. Maybe you even get to fight your team then. THAT would be a truly great alternative ending.

The Illusive Man, or Shepard's own mind.

I mean, just look at TIM's eyes... something is so not right there. Plus, he knew way too much about things that made no connections. Maybe he is the prophet of the Reapers.. the human virus left in the galaxy to twist everything around his little finger.

I think I would go with something really ridiculous, like the Reapers are controlled by an entire sentient galaxy and Shepard has to attack it by building a super-dimensional cannon which fires entire planets. That would be SWEET.

But it will probably just turn out to be that Harbinger guy or whatever.
