i think the best way to translate it is to draw on the similarity on the compusions of the two entities

Dark Knight worked on this by making batman see the future of himself (in a way) in the joker

what if we actually saw batman decend into this madness where he;s not fighting crime because he wants to out of responsibility, but he HAS to, its become an obsession.

that coulde work

If the Riddler is gonna be in the third film, it has to have Robin in it.
You know.
For the 'Holy _____, Batman! A Riddle!'

Either that or a rocket.
A rocket that spells the riddle in the sky.

And that doesn't make any sense in making a man who tells you he's going to rob a Riverbank - that is, a bank by the river - more threatening.
So borrow from history a bit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zodiac_killer

There's a real-life riddle-issuing criminal who was creepy as hell. Change his focus slightly, so that instead of apparently random killings it's instead a criminal stalk of the identity of the Batman, and that model would easily fit into a Nolan-ised Batman film.

I like the idea of Crispin Glover.
I could actually see this guy in the role... :)

Although Hugh Laurie might just about do it, I think he has a too friendly looking face. Depp is a damn good crazy-person actor, but he has been in too many films recently and I think he should take a rest before he becomes even more type-cast. Oliphant I couldn't see in the role, though he seems to be skilled I'm not sure it'd suit him and as for Brad Pitt...WTF? Okay he can do crazy and did so quite well in 12 Monkeys, but the guy just isn't Riddler material.

I just had an insight...

Joe Pileggi, better known as Assistant Director Walter Skinner of the X-Files. He has the height, the look, the serious demeanor... He can act very well, and he's not someone would picture when they think of the Riddler, yet once you connect the dots he's almost perfect.
Mitch Pileggi you mean. (X-Files geek ahoy) That's quite a good call. He was great in the X-Files and would pull this off well.
Where in the nine hells did I get Joe from? You are right fellow X-File'aholic.

So we have a nomination and a second on Mitch Pileggi. I call the vote, Mr. Chairman if you would...
I believe the correct term is X-Phile :p

The Mrs. treated me last x-mas and bought me the seasons 1-9 dvd box set (now sitting beside my videos :D). I introduced her to it shortly after and she loves it, we're at the end of season 8 at the moment! hehe

I'm picturing Pileggi in The Riddler's outfit, lol.

Riddle me this and riddle me that, some bald meat-head's about to catch himself a bat!

Val Kilmer.. ha ha, just kidding

Johnny Depp would be a good choice, and I also like the Neil Patrick Harris idea. They both can do the wacky yet seriousness of the Riddler.

I'm going to throw 2 more names. Ryan Renyolds or Dane Cook. Just to watch the flames...

I'm still not entirely convinced that The Riddler is where they should be going with the next batman film. I'm still kind of annoyed that my favorite batman villain, The Scarecrow, has been turned into a second rate thug, particularly in the brief "cameo" in the Dark Knight.

I'm intrigued by whoever said Barry Pepper, a guy I genuinely like as an actor but couldn't really imagine doing Riddler. I agree with him that Nolan's been kind of doing that alot with these movies. Taking the director into account I'll throw out a few weird odd pitches myself.

-James Brolin- Nolan seems to pick a few guys who've been around the block who've recently come into the spotlight and/or critical acclaim. Coming off of W, this is probably the strangest pick I've come up with, but who knows. I never thought James Brolin would amount to a whole lot better than being a Goonie.

-Guy Pearce- This guy was in Nolan's Memento, and the only other memorable thing he's done is Priscilla. I think it's time this guy proves his stuff again.

-Rufus Sewell- **shrugs**, I liked Dark City.

-Ioan Gruffudd- I don't know if he's in a contract with Marvel or whatever, but I'd like to see him try his hand at villainry, or something not so straight-faced heroic as Hornblower or Richards.

But, in keeping with the dark theme of the recent Batman movies (and the comics in general), I'd like to see a revamp of Firefly with Giovanni Ribisi taking a stap at it.

Dark Riddler -> Giovani Ribisi ( This guy is a talented actor ) OR The actor who played that weird roommate character in Friends sitcom which Chandler has a hard time getting out ( he was also in Saving Private Ryan, dying in a fight getting stabbed in the heart in the end ).

Funny Riddler -> Jim Carrey/Robin Williams/Jake Gylynhall (?)
